I will get back to yo this thread in detail soon. Can see all the hard work you are putting in this.
'Aathaadi' is the Tamil version of 'Enaade' in Telugu. Anand Milind shamelessly tried to not just copy the tune, but also got Balu and Chithra to sing it in Hindi ('Love').
I do a zoom show in Tamil on Raja. Here is a conversation for your entertainment (this has become routine terminology in the zoom meetings after that).
Me: Next week, we will cover harmony.
Participant: என்ன கொடுமை சார். ஆறுமணியெல்லாம் ஒத்துவராது சார்.உங்க ஷோ எட்டரை மணிக்குதானே?
When I covered harmony in the next week, I played the song 'Enaade' and also the copied Hindi song, 'Saathiyaa'.
Me: This is how harmony becomes ஆறுமணி

Since "madurai veeran enga sAmi" had no big hit songs in TN, let us move on to the next album for poll.
mallu vEtti minor
This one too was not familiar to me those days - it is possible I've heard some on buses but never registered or connected with this album name until the internet / tfmpage days

Voted for Manasukkulla, Kaaththirundha malli and Onna paatha. All those are super-hits for sure, while the rest could be classified under Tier-2 and 3. A horrible movie with excellent music for a pathetic and ungrateful hero.

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
As most people overwhelmingly pointed out (esp. in twitter), surprisingly, all songs of MVM were hits - though I thought of only 3 songs myself - in various degrees. So, adding them all here :
#1233 gOpiyargaL engu uNdO (DC solo, mallu vEtti minor)
Title song, possibly benefited from the album being popular and getting played everywhere.
#1234 jalakku jalakku jai (KSC-Mano with chorus, mallu vEtti minor)
Enjoyable number and confirmed as popular by TN-ers, personally not very familiar those days
#1235 kAthirundha malli malli (PS Solo, mallu vEtti minor)
Though PS was getting fewer songs by this time period, IR reserved some of the nicer ones for her - this is a tough song to sing IMO
#1236 unnaippAththa nEraththula (UR-MV duet, mallu vEtti minor)
Sweet number and intro to me via buses
#1237 manasukkuLLa nAyana saththam (SJ-Arunmozhi, mallu vEtti minor)
Excellent song - though I wish it could have been greater with a different male voice
#1238 adi maththALam thAN (KSC-Sunanda- MV group song, mallu vEtti minor)
Fun song, not a personal fav but TN-ers certify it got played quite a bit inside the state those days
#1239 chinnamaNi ponnumaNi (KSC-UR-KJY group song, mallu vEtti minor)
My top pick and a fav - popular as well!
Moving on to the next album, manitha jAthi - poll needed as I'm not familiar with most of the titles

Pudhusu pudhusu and Siru paadham paarthen are fairly popular ones (heard quite frequently on Radio) and hence, voted for both songs.

Not accounting any song from 'manitha jAthi' (as the album is mostly unknown, except for some playback on radio - as per responses here and twitter)...
The next poll is for another very similar case with me - maruthu pANdi - songs mostly unknown to me.
Let me check with TN-ers / add a poll.

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
The movie is just another run-of-the-mill kind. But the songs were pretty popular. A good folk album, overall. Both Doordarshan and Radio had some of those songs playing pretty regularly.
My votes for Singaara selvangale, Paadi paadi azhaithen, Aadhaamum yevaalum pola and Pombala thona.
The first 3 songs are more popular than the 4th one which could be in Tier-2.

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
Adding 3 songs from maruthu pANdi as per TN-ers opinions (none was a "super hit" though).
#1240 singAra chelvangaLE (IR solo, maruthu pANdi)
Title song, in line with the general sentiment those days
#1241 AdhAmum EvALum pOl (SJ-Arunmozhi duet, maruthu pANdi)
Sweet duet, not well-known to me before but TN-ers vouch for this song as radio / TV regular
#1242 pAdippAdi azhaiththEn (MV solo, maruthu pANdi)
Emotional song, nicely sung by MV - once again not familiar to me before but vouched by TN-ers of 90's
I'm going to include all songs from the next two albums as they were popular everywhere including Palakkad (yes, even the ones that were only in cassettes but not in the movie)
MMKR & mounam sammadham
#1243 katha kELu katha kELu (IR solo, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
Long story in a short song, beautifully told!
#1244 rumbumbum Arambam (KSC-SPB duet, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
Cult classic - beautiful song in the "IR-rock-n-roll" genre!
#1245 sundhari neeyum sundharan ngAnum (SJ-KH duet, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
No explanation needed to establish that this song is a hit - even current reality shows in TN cannot live without this one!
#1246 Adippattm thEdichchennel (KSC-Mano duet, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
IR was very generous with this album, throwing a ton of sweet numbers even when Singeetham & Kamal could not use all of them. I had this in my cassette and remember complaining about Mano those days
#1247 maththAppoovu oru peNNA AgAthA (KSC solo, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
Another "not-in-the-movie" song but was moderately popular nevertheless. Less than others, of course - because it was not part of most "company" cassettes. A personal favorite. This is not included in the #IR_Official_YT jukebox also, unfortunately.
Someone has picked from the LP and placed in soundcloud :
https://soundcloud.com/anushyakaran/mathapoovu-oru-penna
#1248 pEr vachchALum vaikkAmappoNalum malli vAsam (SJ-MV duet, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
Perhaps the most popular song of the movie / album. One of the BEST EVER picturizations in the Tamil film history, IMHO! YSR had done a "remix" recently, with the original singers' track kept as such!
#1249 sivarAththiri thookkam Edhu (KSC-Mano duet, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan)
Relatively inexperienced (and also incapable) singers trying to do something that should have been a cakewalk for SJ with SPB or MV
#1250 kalyANaththEn nilA kAychchAdha pAl nilA (KSC-KJY duet, mounam sammadham)
What a sweet song, despite that "kAychchAdha" nonsense in the pallavi
#1251 oru rAjA vandhAnAm (KSC solo, mounam sammadham)
A song in a format very similar to "kuzhaloodhum kaNNanukku" (IMO a V2 of that classic) but relatively less sensational. Same level of sweetness, however!
#1252 chik chikkA chittu chittukku (KSC solo, mounam sammadham)
One of those necessary "gym" numbers, after the humongous success of 'rOjAppoo Adi vandhadhu' - this song also had Amala on screen!
Though people may not like it, I need to add a poll for MDM as there are just too many short songs and I'm not sure if every one of them got played inside TN (like those of mudhal mariyAdhai). I had the cassette and was playing all of them but cannot vouch for others - so a poll is required

ALL the full-length songs were a RAGE; the short ones (except "Uttaalakkadi") - not so much.

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
Adding the MDM hits to our list :
#1253 my dear mArthANdA pattaNam pOrAndA (IR with chorus, my dear mArthANdan)
Typically this was the first song that got played when the drivers started this album on the bus Same case in our bachelor home with the cassette I had - what a rocking song!
#1254 pAkku veththala pOttEn paththala (SPB with chorus, my dear mArthANdan)
SPB in top form in this song / album! The pAdal varigaL, however, are stuff here!
#1255 O azhagu nilavu sirikka maRandhadhE (Mano solo, my dear mArthANdan)
Pathos song - delivered like a prayer song in Mano style - popular nevertheless.
#1256 iLavattam kai thattum (SJ-SPB duet, my dear mArthANdan)
What a lovely song! With terrific drum work and a beautiful melody (kalyANi rAgam was my correct guess, based on pAdal varigaL) and superb singing by the top pair!
#1257 O maharAjA AnA AvannA (chorus song, my dear mArthANdan)
Sweet and short number, became popular by virtue of being a cassette that got played all the time Twitter mafia agree as well!
#1258 saththam varAmal muththam koNdAdum chum chum (KSC-Mano duet, my dear mArthANdan)
A small portion supposedly inspired (or borrowed) from an Israeli song as per some old discussions - very delectable guitar work at the end of anu pallavi as accompaniment / complement, one of my all-time-fav instrumental portions by IR!
#1259 uttAlakkadi pattAna kodi mottAna kiLiyE (GA begins and SPB continues, my dear mArthANdan)
One of my all-time-fav SPB solos, fantastic singing and full of lessons for anyone who wants to learn playback singing!
I'm leaving out the chipmunk style song - may be popular or not but we've already given enough count from this album and hopefully nobody will complain for that one short number reduction I've also left out the short "thakku mukku thikku thALam" number which sounded like some old song remix.
Poll for the next album, nadigan - not sure about the status of all songs in TN...

Voted for all songs except Vela vandhu. Deva malligai poove, Aattama paattamaa and Enge nimmadhi were all superhits, while Adi veluchu pochu could be termed as "moderate" hit.

OK, let us add the nadigan hits to our list now.
#1260 AttamA pAttamA pAththukkO vEsham Arambam (SPB solo, nadigan)
Not familiar to me when I was writing about the IR-SPB hits in mayyam.com those days and thus left out, TN-ers confirm this was a hit
#1261 dEva malligappoovE poovE (SJ-SPB duet, nadigan)
Reached me at the time of arrival (though I wasn't aware which album this song was from) and it got cataloged in that long-running thread on the hub.
#1262 engE nimmathi nimmathi enRu thEdippArththEn (SPB solo, nadigan)
Ditto as the previous song, familiar to even me in Palakkad and duly got included in the IR-SPB hits series!
#1263 adi veLuththuppOchchu thAdi (KSC-SPB duet, nadigan)
First time listen today - not at all familiar to me but TN-ers want this to be included in the hit list and so be it!
The next album for poll is "nee siriththAL deepAvaLi" - another not-so-familiar album for me.

Only the song "Sindhumani punnagaiyil" is popular (both versions); so voted for those two songs. Used to be played quite frequently on Radio. Others are not even Tier-3 hits.
Just found out that the movie was directed by Malaysia Vasudevan! And the title song is found nowhere; finally found it on Dailymotion.com as part of the movie.

Per twitter makkaL, even that sindhumaNi was a HCIRF-fav and not much of a TN-public-hit, so passing the nee siriththAl deepAvaLi album.
Surprised that MV as a director could not identify chart buster tunes from IR!
Moving on to the next album, ooru vittu ooru vandhu
Two songs are evergreen and super hits without question (sorgamE enRAlum & thAna vandha sandhanamE) - for other songs' sake, let me post a poll

NO, both versions of Sindhumani punnagaiyil were hits. There is no way to prove the same, but I am certain that they were indeed hits. That phrase "Oh my love" itself became very popular, in fact.
Ooru Vittu Ooru Vandhu is a nearly all-hit album, with Sorgame endraalum and Thaana vandha being crazy superhits.

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
Adding that hit song from "nee siriththAl deepAvaLi" and hits from ooru V ooru V:
#1264 sindhumaNi punnagaiyil (Two versions - KSC/MV duet & KJY solo, nee siriththAl deepAvaLi)
Adding this song as a moderate hit based on the radio / TV experiences
#1265 ooru vittu ooru vandhOm (IR solo, ooru vittu ooru vandhu)
Title song, as per the sentiment of producers those days
#1266 sorgamE enRAlum adhu nammoorappOla varumA (SJ-IR duet, ooru vittu ooru vandhu)
The anthem of all NRIs - people become emotional when IR sings this on stage - phenomenally popular song! (eyes watery as I typed this)
#1267 thAnA vandha sandhanamE (SJ-SPB duet, ooru vittu ooru vandhu)
What a delectable song this one is - simply enjoyable & repeatable multiple times! Super hit song, of course!
#1268 chingu chA chA chinna rOsA (KSC-Mano with chorus, ooru vittu ooru vandhu)
Fun song - familiar to me only in the internet era
#1269 ikku chai ikku chai ikku chaiyA (SJ-SPB duet, ooru vittu ooru vandhu)
Another fun song, familiar to me only in the internet era - very enjoyable!
#1270 karpoora deepathilE (MV solo, ooru vittu ooru vandhu)
Probably a climax song - like the "mAriyammA' number of karagAttakkAran - not familiar to me but TN-ers vouch for it
With those hits included, let us move to next poll - oru kolai iraNdu kaNgaL (sounds like Telugu dubbing)
BTW, I skipped the "oru grAmaththukkuyil" album that got dubbed from Telugu by BSS and team - even changing melody etc. It is definitely without IR's knowledge IMHO. (Please refer the BSS thread for the songs and other details. In any case, it is unknown outside of our forum )

Good to see "Sindhumani punnagaiyil" included.
The original Telugu album "Kokila", starring Shobana, Naresh (dubbed in Tamil as "Oru Kolai Iru Kangal") is a hit. Certainly, NONE are even known in TN. With rare exceptions like Salangai Oli, Indiran Chandiran etc., one could almost negate the dubbed movies being hits in other languages.
The Tamil-dubbed songs are on Mio: https://mio.to/album/Oru+Kolai+Iru+Kangal+%281985%29
Here is the Telugu album:
Here is SPB and Chitra in the Telugu program, Swarabhishekam, singing the title song:

Keeping that dubbing album aside, moving on to the next poll - for periya veettu paNNaikkAran.
I personally know at least 3 songs - nikkattumA pOgattumA, malligaiyE malligaiyE & pallAkku kuthidaiyilE - were big hits (heard frequently on TN buses) - not sure about others:

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
Voted for all songs except the title song (has 11K views! Not bad) which is not famous, but still a good number.
One of my favorite albums of Maestro IR.
I was flabbergasted to see "Pallaakku kudhiraiyila" song hitting 17M views (nice!), more than the earworm melody: Nikkattuma pogattuma where Mano and Chitra ooze honey in every word. It is a perplexity as to how many actually-popular songs have lesser number of views on YouTube, while the actually-less-popular numbers (still in the hits category) have an astounding number of views.

I had to look up what Aadi Thabasu meant!

Re: Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"
OK, per popular TN-ers' opinion, PVP was an "all-songs-hit" album! Let me do the work of the scribe here :
#1271 vanthArai vAzha vaikkum ooru (IR solo, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
Typical title song of that time period - enjoyable! One wonders how much variety the man had given just in this "title song" genre, starting with that phenomenal "chOLam vedhakkaiyilE" of 16V
#1272 summA nee suththAdhE (Mano solo, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
This video gives a glimpse of political aspirations of Karthik Well, every single one - even Kamal - is a failure in trying to imitate emjeeyAr.
#1273 pattikkAttu pAttu (MV solo, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
Quintessential TN folk number, in the apt voice of Vasu!
#1274 nikkattumA pOgattumA (KSC-Mano duet, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
Super hit number without question - patti thotti hit song!
#1275 muthu muthu mEdai pOttu (SJ-KJY duet, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
I'm surprised that a Janaki Dasettan duet wasn't very familiar to me Must be a very rare case!
#1276 malligaiyE malligaiyE thoodhAgappO (KSC-KJY duet, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
Another patti-thotti super hit song!
#1277 pallAkku kuthiraiyilE bavani varum meenAtchi (MV with chorus, periya veettu paNNakkAran)
Got played everywhere in TN those days - I've heard it on buses and otherwise
Moving on to the next poll - poNdAtti thEvai - album with that sweet "ArArO pAttuppAda" #IR_misrA number!
#1271 vanthArai vAzha vaikkum ooru (IR solo, periya veettu paNNakkAran)

Can anyone listen to this song just once and stop? (Repeat started)
What a delicious melody with sweet accompaniments!

Voted for Aaraaro, Enadhu raagam (both are superhits; played over and over again on Radio and DD), Thottavudan and Amma naan (these two could be Tier-2 hits). Why only a few people are voting with so many members here?
Aaraaro is an earworm (just another infinite-loop-kind of a song of IR). I remember vividly about recording this song in a blank cassette. It was my turn in my class's amateur singing group to come with the lyrics, so had to painstakingly write it down by pausing the tape recorder every line, so we classmates could sing this during lunch break.

Title song for poNdAtti thEvai is similar to 'rAjA rAjAthi rAjanindha' Though new to me, TN-ers confirm the popularity of this one (@sicmafia says people asked for "once more" in theater)

Totally missed the Yaaradi song. Knew it was a hit but did not have any clue about it being such a big hit, and that too "once more"-kind of popularity!
