Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
Gone were the days where we used hear new soundtracks almost every week. The last time we had such a surge was in 2009 when a whopping 20 soundtracks got released. Last year it was five. Initially I thought Megha would win the soundtrack of the year 2013, but when I see overwhelming responses for Chiththirayil Nilachoru, this poll deemed necessary. Please vote for the best soundtrack of the year. This time no multiple options. I have also include onaayum aattukuttiyum

App ji,
I know you would vote for it. Just too curious to know how this fight is going to be between CNC and Megha.

Wow! This is even better. DM, that was a surprise. My fingers tend to go to OAK only, but wanted to keep it as a secret, but not now

Re: Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
Hehe yeah. CNC, Megha and OAK were great soundtracks. But considering CNC as a film (saw a few scenes during IR-Sundarrajan intriyoo for K TV. raNakkodooram to say the least), no scope for BGM. Just great songs. Megha film's not out yet. Very good soundtrack of songs. But OAK is a different beast. Best BGM for a Tamil Film (and Indian from the limited films I've seen) in 2013, leave alone IR films. NT I haven't warmed up but for a couple of songs. Oru Oorula not had a chance to lay hands on the OST but quite unlikely it'd better OAK for me.
Re: Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
Much as I like all the soundtracks of 2013, when it comes to picking one from these I would pick OAK with no second thoughts.
I just cannot put in words how special this OST is to me.
There was a day last month when I was feeling gutted and under severe mental pressure. Didn't even know what to do and somehow instinctively I had put the OAK CD and it started playing. Half way through the track 'Somebody loves us all' and I started crying. When the CD stopped playing I was feeling completely light and it appeared as though I have woken up to a new morning.
These are not exaggerated words but what was happened.
Will always be grateful to Mysskin for releasing this soundtrack.

I can't believe this - I entered the page thinking CNC was my favourite. But my hands automatically chose Megha

There was a tweet by "mafia folks" (@anandhame I think) with a spreadsheet on who voted for what album, with all our ID's etc
I think this is the thread : https://twitter.com/mayilSK/status/423154718739681280
Now it's gone

Re: Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
After repeated listenings, Megha won me just by a whisker compared to OAK mainly for Jeevane Jeevane. How can I leave that out? If there was multiple poll options, would have voted for both.

Re: Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
I voted for Megha. On melodic merit alone, there was a tie between Megha and CNC for me, but ultimately I chose Megha because it is more experimental while also possessing the lush orchestration that IRFs have been so spoilt by over the years. It came down to "Jeevane", "kalvane" and "mugilo" Vs "Nandri solla vendum", "kAlayile mAlai vandhadhu" and "kallAle senju vecha" and it can't be denied that though the latter three are very very good songs and are like an oasis in the desert that is TFM these days, it is still "been there, done that" territory for IR. OAK is not in the reckoning for me because I feel it is unfair to compare a BGM soundtrack with regular albums.

Re: Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
Extremely tough fight b/w CNC & OA (especially after having watched OA and experiencing the full BGM)... the melody quotient in CNC eventually got my vote. (In shastri-speak... at the end of the day, music is the winner! )

Re: Best Soundtrack of the Year (2013)
My vote is for Megha. Lovely tunes, lush orchestration and overall highly experimental album that hit me with the same intensity as NEPV on my first listen. OAK is a close second but if BGMs are the only criteria this would take the top spot and I can say that without even listening to any BGM scores from the other albums.

ha hA! So I guess this poll is turning out to be really interesting. Considering the time spent with OAK, I couldn't go with any other album. அல்லாம் ஓடியாந்து ஓநாய்ச் சின்னத்தப் பாத்துக் குத்துங்கோவ்..

OAK has an unfair advantage. To Megha's credit though, we haven't listened to the BGM yet. Who knows what it has in store. It's OAK Vs Megha for me. And the comparison is not apples vs apples. டெலிகேட் பொசிசன்

OAK thevarukke en vottu. Raaja the parallel narrator simply told the story's unspoken footnotes and author notes neatly.
I could clearly get the metaphysical subtexts through the score and not a single scene had a filler elevator music and that
means a lot really a LOT to a movie.

Megha, Kalvane alone sealed it for me. Would not like to compare a BGM score with soundtracks.

Though I voted for CNC, I completely agree with you. Apt reasoning IMO.fring151 wrote:I voted for Megha.
