This was an "all-Gangai-Amaran-lyrics" kind of album. Possibly the group were often together those days!

The next album is illam & I've covered the 'nandhavanam pooththirukkudhu' song in the IR-SPB thread of the hub, possibly citing my teakkadai experience in Kuniyamuthur or another Kovai suburb on the NH to Palakkad - not sure of the hit status of other songs inside TN. So, a poll will be necessary:

Looks like only a few HCIRFs heard about that kAdhal Oyvadhillai movie / album.

Interestingly, though the disk came out in 1987, the original Telugu movie itself got released in 1989 only (some 'Gopala Rao Gari Abbayi' flop movie) and got dubbed into Thamizh too then. Not many in TN knew about it apparently.

Let us drop that off and likewise another dubbing movie kaNNE kalaimAnE (this one by BM of his Telugu venture, rehashing some tunes from his earlier Malayalam movies such as thumbi vA / yamunE ninnude nenjil etc). TN-ers may find the songs familiar (because of the originals) but let's not scratch our head over this album.

Moving on to next poll, for an unreleased movie but album came out in 1987.

My guesswork above on kAdhal Oyvadhillai & kaNNE kalaimAnE (that those were dubbed movies) got confirmed by Anbu sir via e-mail.

Regarding kAdhal Oivathillai, its dubbed movie from Telugu movie gOpala rao gAri abbAyi. Actually the Telugu audio released as janaranjani in 1986 and the movie release as  gOpala rao gAri abbAyi in 1989. The Thamizh dubbed version kAdhal Oivathillai audio released in 1987  and movie released in 1989.

kaNNE kalaimAnE's original was Telugu "nireekshanA" (which some of the forumers knew before).

He has also sent the corresponding audio sleeve pictures

Possibly the biggest hit from the album - it got played everywhere at the time of arrival! Sort of a "follow-up" song for the KSC-Suhasini combo after the sindhu bhairavi hits prior

Lot of similarity between this song and the SJ classic from nizhalgaL (dhooraththil nAn kaNda un mugam) and both used to play together in my mind those days. The song had reasonable amount of popularity those days and I should say, evergreen appeal!

Though I knew this song from that movie, over a time period forgot the song. Then came this "IR's tablA hits" cassette bought in a small shop in Palakkad in Y2K that had this song...Funny to think that I was wondering like "எங்கேயோ கேட்டிருக்கேனே - என்ன படத்தில் இந்தப்பாட்டு?"

Right from the time IR starts humming "Ah...." it was goosebumps for me, when I watched the movie in theater and heard this song for the first time ever. In love with this number and hear it from time to time even now!

#942 nAn siriththAl deepAvaLi (MS Rajeswari - Jamuna Rani duet, nAyagan)
Excellent reproduction of olden-days IFM by IR, for a "period setting" song! No need to say it was popular in TN - recently watched an on-stage performance of the famous singers (when the news of MSR's death came).

#943 nee oru kAdhal sangeetham (KSC-Mano duet, nAyagan)
Evergreen classic, with some nice pAdal varigaL by Pulamaippiththan (who wrote four songs in this album)

#944 andhi mazhai mEgam (PS-TLM duet with chorus, nAyagan)
Another "period" song and IR chose singers accordingly IMHO Excellent cinematography for this song by PC Sriram (who won an award for this movie, deservingly)

#945 nilA adhu vAnaththu mElE (IR solo, nAyagan)
I guess the popularity of this number led to IR singing many more songs for Janagaraj in the coming months / years. Supposedly the original tune given by IR for the title lullaby (but MR rejected for that requirement but used for a different setting.)

Well, nAyagan movie was a classic and as a coincidence we hear the news of the death of Balakumaran, who wrote dialogs for this movie (those famous one-liners)...condolences to his family members.

(The songs you've mentioned from iniya uRavu pooththadhu are already included as hits. As there were no votes for akkarai pachchai songs, that album didn't have any representation).

I'm actually following a spreadsheet provided by Anbu sir (that has meticulously included >99% of Ilayaraja's TFM output with a great deal of accuracy, the best one available so far).

Coming to the next movie, it is definitely a Rangaraj movie.  Not sure of if its a remake of any Malayalam movie!  

Malaiyoram veesum kaathu is SURELY popular as the pathos song by the SPB + Mike Mohan combo.  Most would come up with this song when asked for the sad songs of Mohan.  The rest, maybe, need a poll.  

My personal favourites are the above song, Vaa veliye (good duet) and another duet, Chithirai maadhathu nilavu varudhu.

Looks like pAdu nilAvE was quite popular inside TN (more than what I thought it was)

When the BR movie too didn't do the trick, it got a modified avatAr - thooLiyilE Ada vandha - which was one of the biggest patti-thotti hits ever. (Perhaps the biggest in Mano's career). However, TN-ers think even this kokkarakkokkO had its listeners

Perhaps the first song in this thread that I record as a hit (based on the feedback of TN-ers) which I've never heard before  And when I tried to listen today on youtube, I could not go beyond the pallavi - if heard without pre-knowledge, wouldn't have even associated the song with IR

Enjoyable fun song - I remember it was an instant hit, with college youththu happily grabbing it. One of my college mates was staying with his friends at CIT for a few months as he worked in Coimbatore and I visited him a few times. That was how I knew about this song

Moving on to the next album & I know rAsAththi manasula was a super hit evergreen song! Let us get approvals from TN residents for that Also, I'm not sure about all the songs as to their popularity! (Movie came in 1988 but it was an 1987 album).

IIRC, this was the debut film (or production) of Raj Kiran who went on to become famous in TF field. This song with pAdal varigaL also by IR, is one of the iconic songs that Ramarajan was gifted with

I'm taking liberty to "not-have-a-poll" for the KH-Amala starrer Sathya & still eliminate two songs from that album as not hits (Hopefully, TN-ers will agree).  That way, there were only two hits from that album

Though not as popular as the vaLaiyOsai song, this can be called a hit due to the # of times one heard it involuntarily

It there's anyone who very strongly feels that the other two songs from sathyA were also hits (nagaru nagaru & ingEyum angEyum, songs I've hardly heard), please provide some justification!.

The next album (sheNbagamE sheNbagamE) has to be polled - though I'm familiar with a couple and also know those were popular, not sure about the rest of the songs!
