As one can see, 1990 peaks in number of hits (partly also due to great verification by others who lived in TN during that year).

Can anyone in TFM history EVER match this kind of output / prolificity / quality / creativity?

Putting it in perspective:

• Assuming 5 songs in a movie album, 873 super hits equal  ~175 super hit albums - that by itself is insane. The  cat b and c hits equal another ~90 albums.  By 1990, IR had the equivalent of 265 hit albums - amazing feat

Nevertheless, let us continue to document and who knows - someone (who matters) in the distant future will identify this fact

The "chinnaththAyi" album was not only a big hit among rural territories upon arrival but also continues to thrill masses for decades! The songs have made into movies of new millennium even (The reference in kaLavANi is the example).

Another song that can generate strong emotions - sensational!

Misfit, IMHO, in this album. It could have been more enjoyable in another less emotional album. Sweet one, nevertheless, and was popular. Much like 'nAn siriththAl deepAvaLi', this tries to evoke 50's feel but not successfully.

Instantly brings tears in one's eyes - is it just IR's singing or the overall composition no one can tell - such a powerful song!

What a lovely #IR_Waltz this one is! All three singers excel and both PS and KSC are apt for on-screen personalities as well. Great singing, great orchestration and a fantastic melody!

Going back, missed a few albums so far.  So, doing a quick catch-up.

Meera is indeed an Album-hit.  Fantastic numbers.  I love the song "Lovunnaa lovvu" too!  A lousy movie, as per my schoolmates who watched the movie back then and reported.  I am yet to watch it.  Aishwarya looked fabulous and we thought she would be pretty successful just like her mother, but things did not turn out well for her.  Remember being so sad to watch her play silly roles thereafter, like those in Ejamaan etc.  Vikram did not have the luck until someone like Bala happened to bring out every bit of Vikram's talent.

Vividly remember SPB saying (at that time), "Out of all the duets I sang so far, Oh butterfly is my most favorite song."

Speaking of the album, some food for thought: Minmini was introduced by IR, contrary to the popular belief!  And so was Sujatha and Unni Menon (on a semi-related note).

Actually lyrics for the whole album is "kuppai kooLam"  Vaali was perhaps asked to write Tanglish or slang or whatever and didn't go a great job IMHO.

I've heard this song possibly only on the internet (I don't think this got covered in my IR-SPB series on tfmpage).

A quick search gives me the address of MGR Nagar Police Station in Chennai!  LOL.

It ought to be the Telugu movie "Stuartpuram Police Station"'s dubbed version.  A good album in Telugu (featuring the very-peppy plus melodious Neethone - pallavi loosely based on "Vaadi en kappakezhange" from Alaigal Oivadhillai.  The charanam was flicked and used in a Hindi song (as usual); don't remember which song).

Only the versions of Oorellaam un paattu thaan by KJY and Swarnalatha were superhits.  Even the one sung by IR was not, but could be Tier-3 hit.  Other songs were not.  

Adore all 3 versions of the title song.  To me, that song is like the same ice cream base in 3 different flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry.  Hard to pick one!  The word beauty has to defined with this song (though it applies for other IR songs as well!).  The tune itself is very soulful and rich - the 3 voices only enhance the tune in their own ways.

Thom thom ena and Nooraandu vaazhum are good, intense classical numbers.

Jayashree K had all 3 versions in her YouTube channel.  After the copyrights violation, she seems to have taken it off.  Hope she uploads it once again. I wonder if she is here.

Slow duet - almost sounds like a pathos number in the 'chinnajiRu kiLiyE chiththirappoovizhiyE' style but quite different (this one is not my fav  )

Moving on to the next album which is totally unfamiliar to me and obviously needs a poll (one person in twitter suggests that "why polls, pick any song that has million plus hits on YT"   I'm not sure if that's a better or more reliable method...)

Not a popular album, but I have heard the song "Nalla thalaivanum thalaiviyum" on Radio (both Madras and Ceylon) and Doordarshan many times (if that counts!).  Other songs are pretty good though.

The album songs are on YouTube, but all the websites list Thaai thandhai song too, which is actually from Rickshaw Maama movie.

The next poll is for 'poNNukkEththa purushan' - from YT, I understand this movie had Ramarajan-Gautami...
