Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
decent film. leaves many a bond fan unsatisfied as it is a
pure lead up to real bond movie. the writers have confused
over whether to make an ubashed bond movie or go for the
proto bond movie that casino royale was. result is a bond movie
without a real bond. only thing that makes this anywhere close to 007
is its fantastic score that worships the classic bond movies. thanks thomas
newman saab. the movie does away with whatever feminine qualities the franchise
espoused since its resurrection with daniel craig as its lead. it does so literally as well
as metaphorically. towards the end it is the emergence of the confident, albeit chauvinistic
bond as embodied by connery that becomes the becomes the biggest takeaways from the
movie. biggest disappointment of the movie is javier bardem as silva. doesnt deliver the same spook
that he did with his Anton chigurh. On the contrary he provided some of the most
lol scenes coming from a bond villain. expected more from sam who unconvincingly
puts together a plot eerily similar to Mi 4.

Breaking Bad - Seen up to e07 in s04. Season 4 avvaLavu siRappaa illaiyE. I mean its great and all that but not as good as S2/S3 if you ask me. They invested so much on Hank's recovery, making Skyler the boss etc., Dint like both. But I am only halfway through and I can alraedy see sparks flying. :D

Homeland - s2e08. They have officially lost it. Or they are purposefully slowing it down since there was no time to breath in the first half of this season?! Dana's story - that better be connected to the main thread. Wasted footage. CIA's sloppiness continues. The 'dude' is having a meeting with Brody and they have no way of tracking him down? If this trend continues, this is going to be worse than even 24. Bah!

Two Daniel Craigs.
Skyfall: Best Bond yet? No. But best since License To Kill. Q introduction onwards, very entertaining. The bitch is gone, finally.
Cowboys and Aliens: Entertaining. Harrison Ford is useless, should've used lesser actor.

Skyfall mini-review
That I posted in the other Bond forum.
Spoilers abound, but I guess by now you guys know already.
During a sort-of mental and physical test routine, the psychiatrist (I think) plays word association game with Bond. It reveals the mental state of James Bond at that point, and when the doc mentions “M”, Bond responds “bitch”.
And the bitch dies at the end. I wanted to applause. She was one of the most annoying M ever in the history of the franchise, especially when she started taunting Bond as sexist misogynist dinosaur. Not that I cared much for Brosnan’s Bond anyway. She continued to play nanny to Bond in the last Craig movies and this is her last. Good riddance.
My personal grouse on M aside, I was actually having sewerage low expectation of this film. More “personal” shit, more “M” hanging around in the field, brooding Bond and those “what the heck is happening” action sequences, especially the notorious choppy ones in Quantum of Solace.
Boy, was I wrong. True, the generic action scenes, and Bond on his own, blah, blah, blah stuff were there. But the film took on a very interesting direction once Bond is asked to report to the Quartermaster. The latter is, of course, our beloved Q, played this time by a younger actor.
Suddenly, I can feel the return of the sensation that made the earlier Bond films so, err, sensational. The music, the look, the performance, the humour, the goddam DB4, and even the finale which I previously thought I might loath (Bond’s home!!! Even the Fleming never took us there) was fine, and could be one of the best climax at recent times.
The characters are very well written; especially the non-regulars and the performers gave their best, especially Bardem as the bad guy. He may not be up there as menacing as, say, Sanchez, but he sure is creepy as hell.
The actions, boring during first half (train fight was alright, but I lost focus after sometimes), but fantastic once the film moves to Shanghai. The stunts are clear and brilliantly choreographed. You can see what’s happening, unlike in QOS where you just have to wait for the end result.
Of course, our man. Craig goes through the transformation from Lazenby/Dalton-Fleminguesque Bond to Connery Bond. He will be celebrated as the greatest Bond next to Connery for sure by many generations. I still am with Connery and Dalton, but like Lazenby, I will recommend Craig as a great Bond.
And I still want to see more of him, if he is going to be like how he is towards the end of this film.
Credit must certainly go to Sam Mendes. I think the glee that he is directing a full-blooded action film, part of an awesome franchise, and he himself being a fan of great Bond films, also understanding well the critical failure of the previous outing, gave us one of the best Bond of recent time. For me, I’d say the best since License to Kill, and LTK is currently my numero uno!
I went alone first time (no babysitter), and will be going again with my wife this weekend.

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
grouse, i found the movie average...
i loved CR and disliked QoS...
i think i dont know what to look for in a bond movie... once M was killed, we were like whatttt.... the producer spent all the money and the last 40 minutes to save this granny only to see her killed by an unknown bullet?? maybe a tamil cinemasque she jumping in front of bond to take the rocket launcher targetted at him and saved him by sacrificing her life... i would have been touched
average performance by the villain... innum konjam edhirppaatthaen knowing the actor he is...
the bond gal is the take away for me... she was supersexy... i was waiting for a masala song for bond with her... atleast someone shd have turned the windshield heaters on while she was taking bath...
verdict: enakku padam paakka theriyala...

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
SS, the trouble is, after Brosnan, audience were programmed to accept the films as Bond and M adventure, when before that M would just issue order, then shut the fuck up behind his desk. So, traditional Bond fans like me find her annoying, irritating and has too much screen presence (nothing to do with Dench, she's a wonderful actress and has done better job elsewhere). So, killing her off would be like "what the fuck" for those who grew up with 90s/00s Bond. Am looking forward to Bond 24...
Digression: Since I hardly participate there, allow me to congratulate you and wife and wish you a happy married life. Have a fantastic time (up and down ellAm sagajam, don't let that pull you down).

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
i am not annoyed for they killed M... nor i was lookin forward to see her alive... jus that after so much struggle to protect her, the lose the battle... thats how i found that sequence as... and that disappoints... and to contradict 180degress with ur opinion... i was disappointed with the climax too... instead loved the awesome opening stunt sequence... all my friends wished that they had that as the final sequence to end up on a high...
thanks for ur wishes!
point taken... its all in the mixing
incidentally the first movie i watched after my status change...
she did not find as much complaints when the movie finished... infact she was happy and smiling, when i woke her up to go home...

Homeland S2E09 - It's slowly becoming like a video game. Sloppy lazy and convinient writing. Hilarious actually. Still engaging though. I really liked S1, but S2 has been a total letdown.

Nothing is as consistent as BB. And for that matter I don't think I would like anything if i watch "Sopranos" or the wire or any ATG (TV's).

KVji adhaan missing-aa. West bishes.
BB - Consistent, ATG othukkuREn.. Yet to complete S4, halfway into the 10th episode I think. The mexico adventure was exlant. They took the easy way out to finish the cartel but well executed. And Jesse, FTW!

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
The Wire shits on all the running shows from great height. Only Deadwood ever comes close. I'd think Sopranos has a better bet at aspiring to be a strong contender. All three Davids at top, all HBO..
As for favourites, BB is tops because I watched last part of 4th season and the 8 episodes of 5th Season (while the other great shows, I watched episodes as a chunk on one go), as it came out. The anticipation factor and near-finesse execution matching (if not surpassing) the weekly expectations, catches you by the balls. Most shows don't keep the dick hard. BB does it fluently.

Came across this sitcom in CC-india. Not bad, All the ladies/men are very funny. Checked out in wiki that it has only 4 seasons and <30 episodes. Varum mathangalil paarthara vendiyadhu dhan.

Saw Silver Linings Playbook
AF, don't miss this film, not sure if this has been released in India. Full of philly/eagles louu. And DeNiro on Eagles jersey throughout. You can also see Anupam Kher with Eagles face-paint getting ass-kicked by white Americans
Anyway excellent film. Really nice characters and almost flawless writing. Great one liners and fantastic performances. They have finally written a role that is worthy of the 'old' DeNiro. Jennifer Lawrence continues to impress. And the hangover Phil can act too. Surprised to see Kher in this film. Also saw Amitabh in another Holly (UK?) film trailer. Hmm, Bolly phlows are going places eh?
Bonus was watching Django's trailer on big screen. Awesome of the Tarantino of the world.
