When documenting the BSS songs under IR, I came across a rare song in the album "oomai uLLangaL"  - மனதினில் புதிய அருவி பெருகி விழுந்த கோலம்.

Today I happened to see the other songs of this album on YT - though both Anbu sir's spreadsheet and the Inreco label count this as a 1981 album, I doubt if IR really "recorded" these songs in 1981. It had to be at least 2 or 3 years before, going by the orch / sounds.

In any case, let me get the YT links of the 3 other songs here - all of them first time listen for me, a very rare case:

Beautiful composition, a romantic duet, in the 1984 movie, Nee Thodum Bodhu starring Lakshmi and Raghuvaran.  

Gangai Amaran's voice sounds a bit odd and loud (not bad, but still IR or SPB would have done wonders), but SJ is spot on as always.  The song starts at 3-minute mark in the video, preceded by some good background score.

The end of the saraNam almost feels like 'oppAri' (where it should have been mischief and risque).

Anyways, I had never been a big fan of her and that could partly be a problem of me having great bias against

Agreed.  

As for your last sentence, I adore her voice in songs like Ammammaa keladi thozhi, most of her superhit peppy numbers and some of her Maariyamman songs.  

I do understand why you could have said that, because her voice is NOT a pleasant, soothing one or a typical playback voice like a PS, SJ, Chitra etc., but is unique.  So, composers have to compose with her voice in mind, i.e. tailoring the song to suit her voice.

The other 3 songs of LRE for IR:

1. Nee moginiyaa - along with Malaysia Vasudevan - Thirukkalyanam (1978). Her first song for IR.  Superb FUN song!  This song is non-existent on the web, EXCEPT Kadar Majee's channel and a part of the song is available on YouTube.  Wikipedia wrongly credits this song to her sister, L.R. Anjali.





2. 1,2,3 Cha cha cha - along with TMS - Nalladhoru Kudumbam (1979).  A club-dance number.
 


3. Pudhu kadalai - along with Mano (!) - En Iniya Pon Nilaave (2001).  Ceylonese Baila-style song.  Balu Mahendra's movie released a decade later and the songs were recorded earlier than that!

A beautiful soothing composition in IR's voice: Vanna poove from Mahendran's Kannukku Mai Ezhudhu (1986) movie.  Lyrics by Gangai Amaran.

The album also has another great song "Vaadaamalliye" sung by the veteran Bhanumathi.

Yes.  The orchestration was by IR.  So, posted it along with the other IR-LRE songs.
