^GP did EVK cover in early 90s and until he was incharge of SAM all their
graduation concerts had a Raaja tribute so this is par for the course but given his pedigree/mafia leanings am surprised he hasn't done a 'Sri Raaja'
tribute in any of his private albums, wish he does that in ATG and wards off Shalini from doing any number, my two wishes

Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. It takes a Prasanna to spotlight the jazz soul of this song. Much like it takes an IR to demonstrate the thAlattu that is hidden within nilA adhu vAnathu mEle. It is really quite subtle in the original and you notice the jazz stamp in the chordwork and interludes only if you listen closely.  Good to know even this unknown number has some high profile fans.

Pretty lousy vocals on that cover but the musicianship was awesome.  I loved that statement in Prasanna's description for the video as bringing Ilayaraja and Steely Dan together. Kind of validates what I have been saying about the prog rock connection.  Not surprised he would say that as he is also a Gentle Giant fan and seemingly has branched out into jazz/art rock rather than Western classical.

Thanks for sharing this one Usha akkA. Never heard of this song.
What a nice blend of carnatic tune (Abhogi?) and groovy pop interludes with gutars, trumpets..! Janaki too seems to be enjoying her part by throwing in liberal dose of gamakams. An aural treat not to be missed by IR fans
