'kaNNaththoRakkaNum sAmi' was a big hit song (with SJ's mukkal munagals & KBR's murungakkAi stuff) from mundhAnai mudichchu. GA wrote that song

Well, it seems they've decided to make a movie with that title and fill the album with a few bed room songs. Also, attach the K Bagyaraj tag to the movie / album.

And add Sivakumar to it

Neither the movie nor the songs got registered in the minds of TN-ers I think. There's a distant memory of listening to 'idhu dhAn mudhaliravA, illai idhu pOl pala iravA'...but other than that there's no trace of this KTS in my mind.

To add to such long list of comical movies is this 'kOdai mazhai'. (Don't worry guys, this is the last one).

The producer and director chose to show their faces along with IR in the front cover of the album. (Mukta Seenivasan, who had been sticking to MSV until this point, seemed to have given up and signed rAsA. I guess the agreement was to place rAsA's face in the front cover and not have pic of actor(s) on the disk )





Wait a minute...I have heard these songs

'kAtROdu kuzhalin nAdhamE' is a lovely, sweet song by KSC! For that song alone, I can call this album a winner!

Recently Wizzy posted the "DTS" album samples and I heard this 'thuppAkki kaiyil eduththu' fun song by rAsA - for the first time - that one is an ok number too...

Well, let's begin 1987 with a "Mukta Seenivasan" movie

Kamal as Velu Nayagan...(posted this one earlier in the KH-RK thread, in appreciation of Pulamaippiththan, now reposting here for one-stop-shop-thingy).

MR can always be proud of this movie & songs!

Kamal did two other movies ("commercial masala") that year...forgettable ones

kAdhal parisu at least had a couple of sweet numbers by SPB :

pEr sollum piLLai didn't even have that (Though I haven't watched the movie, it can't be any good - AVM / SPM / KRV)

(I know some HCKHFs will say 'ammammA vandhadhindha singakkutty was a great song' but not my cup of chAi)

Rajini did one movie with IR in 1987 - (vElai illAdhavan dhAn) vElakkAran

KB produced it and the vinyl cover says all songs got penned by Mu Mehta.

My fav - the guitar / synth rich 'ennakkuththA un uyirai enakkuththA' by BSS - unfortunately got picturized with no Rajini or Amala and didn't enjoy much prominence I'm reminded of this song whenever I listen to 'kAdhal rAgamum kanniththamizhum onRu sErndhadhu pOl' of indhiran chandhiran...

vA vA vA, kaNNA vA is a nice song too, but just-ok-not-great as per IR standards IMHO...nice visuals for that number

'thOttaththula pAththi katti' is of course a SPB cracker

The title number , mAmanukku number & peththu eduththava dhAn are all so-so...

NT did a movie with Sathyaraj (directed by Manivannan) and it was a hit.

There was another NT movie 'Krishnan vandhAn' produced by thEngAi Srinivasan.

Two IR / Vijayakanth movies get listed in thiraippAdal for 1987. One got directed by Manobala and some Vairamuthu songs (possibly written in the year prior, got released later).

'chinna chinna rOjAppoovE' written by Muthulingam is a KJY sweetie. Then the terrific KJY/KSC duet 'oru kiLiyin thanimaiyilE siru kiLiyin uRavu' by GA!

The songs are in thiraippAdal and the SPS song 'mAlai mangalam kANga' is very familiar to me from radio listens.

Prabhu had a Sivaji prod movie, this one directed by C V Rajendran (director from his dad's time)...

Balu Mahendra's 'rettai vAl kuruvi' is obviously the most familiar one (rAja rAja chOzhan nAn & Kannan vandhu pAdukinRAn)...

BM seemed to have a strong taste for this "rettai vAl" stuff (this one, sathi leelAvathi, maRupadiyum...in real life too he seemed to have an extra vAl all the time)

Another album with a famous song is 'pAdu nilAvE' (malaiyOram veesum kAtRu is a big big fav with me)...

Though the album 'ninaikkath therindha manamE' didn't ring a bell, a listen to thiraippAdal of the song samples simply surprised me!

All the songs are very familiar - many times heard on buses! Just that I didn't know the name of the movie Some really nice ones (KJY / KSC special) !

Not to be missed album!

'theerthakkaraiyinilE' - though this term is very famous (Bharathiyar song / number of songs in TF etc), I don't remember anything about a movie with that name (IR / Mohan combo)

I totally forgot that Sridhar made 'iniya uRavu pooththadhu'...songs are very familiar (chikkenRa Adaiyil) and are quite modern for the time period. (IMHO, this precedes agni natchaththiram in hip, MR possibly told IR "I wanted one like that")

There's a Sivakumar movie "chinnakkuyil pAdudhu"...totally unfamiliar album

The last one we have at musicalaya for this year is "vAzhga vaLarka" starring Radharavi in the main role...
