Now that we've catalogued some not-much-known movies, let's shift gears to look at the covers of some well-known (hit or otherwise) movies

Let's have 3 movies from KB's production house - Kavidhalayam.

I've earlier missed out netRikkaN which got released during 1981. That was because, musicalaya website had hosted the cover with a prefix to the name ("kavidalaya netrikkan") and I missed, looking under alphabet N.

Now, let's have netRikkaN, which chronologically came earlier - the very first movie produced by Kavidhalayam banner and KB hired IR to do music (movie directed by SPM)! Rajinikanth doing dual role, characterizations slightly inspired by NT's gauravam...

Got disappointed a little bit looking for Kamal's enakkuL oruvan that got released during deepAvaLi 1984. (Another kavidhalaya movie, SPM-IR, Kamal dual role)

musicalaya has the album cover but not the one with the Kamal picture Only the credits page...Vairamuthu penned all songs it seems



Fantastic songs - mEgam kottattum, thEr koNdu vandhavan yArendRu solladi thOzhi, engE endhan kAdhali, muththam pOdhAdhO...

The third one was Murali's intro movie...poo vilangu. He had Kuyili as jOdi. Despite the movie becoming a hit, the actress didn't get many chances and soon came down to the level of doing "one dance" kind of roles ("nilA adhu vAnaththu mElE" of nAyagan).





Once again, all songs Vairamuthu. Looks like he became KB's darling early on (and thus the media people's chellappiLLai as well...)

I looked around and youtube seems to have all the songs While the song vidoes are nothing great, they are not irritating either.

Tears in eyes from a retired Kamal fan for that Enakkul Oruvan LP cover (not that I am faulting you, app, you are an exalted hardworking member of this forum).

Am one of the champion of this much maligned film from Kamal that was derided by a certain group, now headed by the back-then Rajini fan who converted to Kamal fan and then retired into an NT fan like me who calls himself by a fruit that is more tasty when it is pickled. You know who he is. And you 1973-er, you know I am kidding

My Pleasure to a part of this marathon thread. Happy that these lp cover makes every one of us smile and feel the golden moments.

Like many of BR's assistants, K Rengaraj too became a director. However, he did one thing differently - went to Shankar-Ganesh for music for his first movie (Well, KBR too didn't have IR as MD for his first directorial venture but then he was also a hero already...in addition, IIRC, rAsA didn't agree to score for his first movie due to some unusual reasons).

In any case, S-G gave a nice song for nenjamellAm neeyE ('yAradhu sollAmal nenjaLLippOvadhu'). However, in course of time, K Rengaraj came to IR and the maestro treated him with some awesome songs for his 'nilavu suduvadhillai'! 'pArijAtham pagalil pooththadhu' and 'nALum en manam' are my all-time-fav numbers!

K Rangaraj also got signed up for the fourth movie of 'Motherland Pictures' (Kovaiththambi the producer). 'unnai nAn sandhiththEn' was the movie's name, the title coming from a famous MGR song The movie also had MGR'ish picturization for 'hEy I love you' song, Suresh & Revathy doing the rAjAvin pArvai rANiyin pakkam styled horse cart ride...

One interesting thing about this album is featuring a new movie song by Kavingar Kannadasan many months (couple of years) after his demise...dEvan thandha veeNai






K Rangaraj went on to do a few more movies with music by IR. We'll possibly get those LP record covers when doing the corresponding years

While BR's assistants were releasing many movies, he wasn't idle either. Close on the heels of his success of maN vAsanai, he did another movie with the same Pandiyan-Revathy pair. That movie was named 'pudhumaippeN' - but some elements objected, stating the close relationship the term had with Bharathiyar (and may be some rights issues). So, the film ended up having the name "AVMmin pudhumaippeN" with radio stations declaring that as the movie's name...(Even the musicalaya website lists the LP cover with that name)

Well, there's just one picture for the wonderful album - kasthoori mAnE kalyANaththEnE (classic mAnE thEnE), kAdhal mayakkam...two phenomenal duets rAsA gave his friend.

Another "பா" director, BR's sishyan KBR, did dhAvaNikkanavugaL. Lovely songs, with some MGRisms by KBR while having NT as part of the team





This wasn't as successful as his prior mundhAnai mudichchu. (Actually no KBR film had MM kind of success afterwards).

One more big director with the first letter "பா" strayed from his serious / slow kind of movies to make a "mass commercial film" - neengaL kEttavai. Balu Mahendra. No need to repeat the arumai-perumai of the songs (or the 'siRumai' of one song, kanavu kANum )

There had been a couple of not-so-well-known Vijayakanth movies from 1984.

That had rAsA music.

I saw the movie "dEvi sridEvi" in the 1984 list of thiraippAdal. I knew this movie had AVM Rajan's daughter Mahalaxmi ("Sri") and wondered why I didn't come across her first movie rANiththEni for this thread

Well, I've found out that rANiththEni doesn't have a year in thiraippAdal and escaped my scan

So, we have a 1982 movie - rANiththEni; hero was the singer Deepan Chakravarthy!

The vinyl cover shows Kamal It seems he did a cameo...

After the success of malayoor mambattiyAn, Thiyagarajan was hot in the trade for a few months and a number of movies came out - nothing did as good business as mambatti though. (That cover is not available on our source site )

At least Mohan "tried" to be different from time to time

Every now and then IR gave some terrific number to PJ (unfortunately such song often landing on forgettable movies )

Vijayakanth & Thiagarajan acted together in Devar films 'nalla nAL'.

(I am not sure what all animals acted with them )

'pOdu thandhAnaththam' is my all-time-fav! Western style adi of thavil! (Many years later some other MDs used like that and people talked AhA-OhO-innovation etc )
