Well, thazhuvAtha kaikaL came much later (i.e. at least 5 years later) than me hearing that "tune" for the first time. It was in the Agate hostel, 1st year (1981) that I got introduced to the tune when a jam session was going on in the common room.

I've talked about this alaigaL Oyvathillai actor who was a college cultural mainstay...he was with his Don Bosco old-school-mates and playing spanish guitar singing along.

I started watching with enthu.

'mazha penju oorellAm thaNNi' - ding ding / ding ding / ding ding / ding ding (chords).

What line followed got me totally shocked (No prizes for guessing)

From that point, I've heard many variations of the same tune during hostel life That's why I got irritated when I heard this SPS song on a bus one day, somehow identifying that it was by IR.

December pookkaL, with Revathy. ('azhagAga siriththadhu indha nilavu' - what a lovely PJ-SJ number!)

Then there was 'pAru pAru pattaNam pAru' by Manobala where mudhal mariyAdhai Ranjani acted with Mohan.

'yAr thoorigai thandha Oviyam' is a nice GA song. There's also the sweet SPB-SJ duet 'thenRal varum'...(BTW, the movie's name makes it sound like a Ramarajan movie with grAmaththu songs OTOH, it's a Mohan movie with these sophi numbers)

Likewise, Karthik had a couple of movies besides his famous role in mouna rAgam.

'nAn thEdum sevvandhippoovidhu' of dharmapaththini is very famous (perhaps one of the most famous of all IR songs...I think the lyricist Kanmani Subbu is a KD relative)...

Karthik's jodi was the TR intro girl Jeevitha (who later became wife of 'idhu dhAndA police' Rajasekar..look at the pic of this album cover)

'adhi kAlai, subha vELai, un Olai vandhadhu' is a VM-written song, very famous to this day, from the movie natpu.

GA penned all the songs and the famous 'dEvanin kOvil moodiya nEram nAnenna kEtpEn deivamE' got hosted as #49 in the GA thread

Just went through the 1986 list. I really appreciate the idea of actor wise movie posting. It was easy to relate and scan through the movies.
One great classical song album following Sindu Bhairavi is "Isai Padum Thendral" for actor shivakumar. It has great numbers from SJ, KJY, Balamurali krishna. Infact all three singing in a same song.
Please add that to our list.

This one is a nice album : " iravuppookkaL" (IMG this movie must be about a pAliyal thozhilALi hoping to get redeemed from that profession)...

All lyrics by GA and the song 'ini mEl nALum iLangAlai thAn' is so lovely, SJ beautifully expressing the hope inside the female...

'malli malli cheNdu malli' was a decent hit (MV/SJ) and was heard often on buses

Looks like that iravuppookkaL had Sathyaraj...let me continue with a few more Sathyaraj movies from this 1986. This was the year when he did his most famous 'mudhal vasantham' with Manivannan. Unfortunately, that vinyl cover is not there at musicalaya.

That way, answer to the groucho question on 'ponni nadhi' continues to be elusive

All songs penned by GA but nothing became a big hit IIRC.

Then there was this 'vidinjA kalyANam', directed by Manivannan again. (So, he did at least three movies with Sathyaraj in this year)

I've heard the 'dAnce pAppA' song in the bus many times (similar percussion style like 'mAmAvukku kudummA kudummA' of punnagai mannan)

Then there was this sathya movies 'mandhirappunnagai' where he acted with Nadhiya.

SJ's 'mandhirappunnagaiyO' is such a sweet number from this album!

Mahendran did 'kaNNukku mai ezhudhu' in this year. Perhaps his last project with rAsA (i.e. until now, who knows - he may do a future venture with IR).

It's a lovely melody and she had butchered it. vayasAna kAlaththil vishappareetchai!

SJ's "anbu malarkaLin sOlai idhu" is so sweet and the only song familiar to me from prior listening in buses. (I didn't know then which movie it was from, such was the fate of this movie / album).

ADMK minister K Kalimuthu wrote the lyrics for all except one it seems...

KSC's actual TFM debut song was from 'nee dhAna andhakkuyil' (even though poovE poochchooda vA got released at least one year ahead, this was the first recorded one it seems...before this movie's release, she already had done sindhu bhairavi, got NA etc).

'poojaikkEththa poovidhu' was supposedly her first one in TFM. Duet with GA.

My favourite from this album is KJY's 'en jeevan pAdudhu'. I got goosebumps as I typed this line, such a lovely, lovely song!

misra chApu 7 beat cycle song with eeriness & fantastic emotions packed - right from the instant the prelude starts...(not a big fan of the humming prior to that).

watch for the director of NDAK - R.Selvaraj - fantastic writer on the rural mileu from Bharathiraaja school.

kaadhal enbathu is a big hit right? I have watched this songs many times on TV and listened on Radio. I liked the film too, it did well.

I think I watched this movie 5-6 times. That time I liked Captain very much. I even liked the story, we were fans of R Sunderrajan movies. I remember talking about the songs every time we (friends) met, especially chinnamanikkuyilE. I was happy to travel all the way to Chennai many times to record songs from this film for my friends and relatives. Every song is a masterpiece. Let's hope NilachOru brings back the lost moments. Eagerly waiting.

All the three "IR, BR and Selvaraj" looks like are from same school

There's this 'rAtchasan' with a Chiranjeevi picture.

I can easily assume this to be a "Telugu-dubbing" movie and hence was never in my radar

All songs SPB-KSC but zero familiarity.

Don't know anything about this "shirdi Saibaba" movie as well. Possibly Telugu dubbing...

maragadha veeNai has Revathy on the front cover. Another movie with zero familiarity.

There's a Manorama-sung number I think years before she sang the 'manjakkayiru thAli manjakkayiru' which was quite popular (that possibly inspired P Vasu to do some thAli stuff with her in Chinnathambi)...but the "cheechchee pOdi" number in this album is intolerable

All other songs have SJ and some are semi-classicals. Never heard before and I guess these need some calm listening before passing any comments...one song has Dhakshimamoorthy (Master?) singing too...
