That presence in JJ's swearing in was definitely due to Dhanu. Just so Dhanu can throw a big bash for the #1000 in front of Jayalalitha. Not sure what all is in store :-(

Seems a bit uncharacteristic of IR to be part of a highly politically tinged event. It would have been fine, if it was after an election or something. If I were him, I would have stayed away.

I think IR is not business savvy, others do these things in a very subtle way and get by with a 'nice guy' image. IR seems to 'தலையை விட்டுவிட்டு வாலை பிடிப்பது போல் தெரிகிறது'. Personally, I dont think he is after money, even if he directly demands money. It is just his musical ego he is trying to satisfy. I have been watching some movies over the long weekend on Tentkotta and it is very obvious how far ahead his music is. Still, they are also Music Directors and he is also a Music Director :-( . Some times, I am saddened by the lack of awareness in our people on the quality of music they are being bombarded with.

The movie was a flop (yes I had the embarrassment of watching this in theater) and the album didn't fly very high either. Yes, those were regulars on radio and "recording centers". Occasionally on buses / teakkadais but not comparable to many other albums of that time period.

Yes i got introduced to it only after Rex Arul started his Rare IR songs page in tfmpage in 1998

I haven't heard "Azhagiya kaNNE" for ages. But I remember it has 3 noteworthy numbers; the spine chilling "china china KaNgaL rendu" by KJY, a very endearing "nAn irukkum", a SJ's sweet pie and a devotional by SPS "pala janma janmaandhara"

The surprise to me is the fact that his popularity is so huge despite the general population only being exposed to about 20% of his work!

It is amusing to read about the prank played by Raja and Kamal at the behest of Raja,  during the "iLamai OonjalAdugiRadhu" recording session , must be for the guitar/trumpet  ridden "ennadi meenAkshi" . Blessed are those collegians who witnessed history being made !!! This might have eased the job of the singer and musicians as the song was a bit too tough to sing and play.

indhu paper part 7, it is getting better

Some clarifications on the above portion...

1. என்னக் கிட்டில்ல = நான் கிடைக்க மாட்டேன் 

2. வரிகள் பூர்ண்ணமாயி  = வரிகள் முழுவதும் 

3. துறன்னடிச்சு = திறந்து அடித்தார் 

4. ஏதானும் சமஸ்க்ருத = ஏதோ சில சமஸ்கிருத 

5. செறுப்பம் = சிறு வயது 

6. சமஸ்க்ருத ஞானம் அப்படி உபயோகிச்சில்ல = சமஸ்கிருத ஞானத்தை அப்படியொன்றும் (பெரிதாக) பயன்படுத்தி இருக்கவில்லை

The translation is as below.

Raja wanted Girish to change the Lyrics for the song "Chempoove" from the movie 'KAALAPANI" as he felt that lyrics were filthy and it is not meant for our culture.He roared stating that he will not compose for the lyrics.

Girish however openly told raja that lyrics were not filthy and its describing the nature and he cannot change the lyrics."Thurannadichu" means informed firmly/openly.

Girish further sang some samskritha slokas and informed that his lines were the translation for this in Malayalam.

The furious raja suddenly became calm and asked Girish on how he knew samskritham and girish informed that his parents had mastered samskritham and he had gained knowledge from them.He politely told raja that he has only imbibed a little knowledge in samskritha which he rarely used in his lyrics, for which raja advised him to gain full knowledge/command in the language.He requested Girish to be the Gatekeeper for the language(Vijnanathinte dheergha kala sookshipukaran)

Without changing lyrics,raja went ahead and tuned for that.

In the end the article concludes stating Girish passed away without fullfilling ilayaraja's desire that he should be a full time gatekeeper.
