மாண்டலின் யு.ஸ்ரீனிவாஸுக்கு மரியாதை செலுத்தும் வகையில் நடைபெறும் இந்த பிரம்மாண்ட இசை நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு எந்த வித கட்டணமும் இல்லை என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அவருக்கும் அனுமதி இலவசம்.

At last something is happening - and we should be happy about it Usha akkA.

As individuals, we don't need to worry about "not getting IR music" as there are 1000's of alternate / inexpensive means to get IR music anyways for a pAmaran. Even if that means the ordinary AIR broadcast (which always pays royalty to producers, though a pittance) or from whatever "private recordings" that exist in the world and can get played on private players. I don't think KR or anyone can come after every MP3 player in TN or the world

OTOH, these FM channels and TV channels CANNOT simply take it for granted to use all the glorious music to make money but not pay the owner. (I don't think their job will be easy to live without IR music in short term - even though they might totally ban him and succeed in the long run by only having other trash on all their programs...that might even make the reach of IR's music too less / thin in the future but personally I don't care - what is the point in having all the reach / popularity but leaving the original composer and his family poor? That we say 'AhA-OhO' is not going to feed KR or his future generations)

However, the main question is "how are they going to enforce even in the short term, in case the culprits use his song but not pay?"

Anyways, at least the producers originally funded the album and hence deserve this gesture. (OTOH, the audio companies / FM / TV fellows cheated by either paying one-time money only or nothing at all).

I was in two minds when I read about this. Firstly, what do you do about a car that has stolen the gas and left the pump? Not much, I suppose.

Coming to think of the other side of this issue, many FM stations throughout South India, fill their nights with Raja's music, not paying him a cent. Many TV channels runs 'music only' channels and a substantial part of their advertising revenue is on the basis of two things: 1) the TV bundle they sell - you get Isaiaruvi when you get Kalaignar, Sun Music when you get Sun TV and so on 2) the good music programs they air, mostly filled with Raja's music, especially the ones that air in the night.

These TV channels have an international reach and they make a staggering amount of ad dollars. I am sure, they do not pay a cent to any musician, not just Raja.

I think Raja is driving a real case here when he says that commercial broadcasters need to pay him for using his material. He cannot do anything about the internet sites and youtube uploads and other mp3 distributions.

At this time, all the film world musicians should stand behind Raja and challenge the TV channels and FM radio stations with litigation if they do not comply.

Raja is known for such sensational announcements. Not for follow up action and having proper methods and systems to track the consequences of this action. While he is a great musician, he is lousy with administrative stuff. He himself says that it is laughable to expect him to run from court to court.

I think the Film musicians federation should take this to the next stage. Left to Raja, this will be one more bungling.

Digression (probably): Just happened to watch Balu Mahendra talk about the requirements for an artiste - sensitiviy - nuNNarvu. He says this is important to be successful in art. I think, IR, has ample sensitivity. But BM goes on, the same sensitivity which will help you succeed will wreak havoc in your personal life !!! You will be over-sensitive and over-reactive. What an observation !!! May be this also applies to IR. Even personally, I am picky about so many things .. my food, clothes, expectations from my co-workers, team, and my family etc. And I see some times my sensitiveness ..makes me react or over-react and that causes some bad blood. I guess many of us in science and technology have a lot to learn from our friends in arts. It is the Emotional Quotient we can improve upon. As a creator of fine cinema, BM, continues to educate me (us) even after he is gone. What a creator !!!

idha enga sollannu theriyaa since this is not anything about Raaja online. But anyway. Radio City (91.1 FM, Chennai) are playing 24x7 Raaja music the whole of March, April, May leading to June 2  91 days of his music alone. Discovered only this Monday! So all mafiosi in Chennai (Radio City outside Chennai varumA?), just tune in folks!

Well.. we are hearing that with the copyright issues ? Whoever is selling IR's music never paid any royality to IR so far. Must be Agilan included. I think I read Karthik bad mouthing him. Oh.. I heard even IR saying that he helped people whose wives were ready to leave them (we know Agilan had family issues). Anyways, IR is right (if the news is accurate) in turning over the rights to the producers (who probably held the rights originally as they funded the production of the music for the movie). We should see much more reasonable situation on this front moving forward.
