Exactly, I am hooked on to this guys's writings. I have never been to Ooty or that vicinity !!! :-( So googled and amazed at the beauty of the region. Will visit next time around in India.
Looks like people who are deeply passionate in any field (say writing ) also appreciate the depth in IR's music. 
If you did movies for fun, fanfare etc you may not care, you would go for the latest trend etc  and would not understand whats the big deal about this man's music.
Sivaraman can write movie scripts easily .. he has got material and he has the observations..

What makes him special (and possibly places him in an exclusive club with Suka) is the Thamizh flow

Both have very interesting stories, connect with a song (or songs) and write in beautiful Thamizh nadai!

While Suka excels with his Nellai area geography / vazhakku / language, Sivaraman is terrific with his neelagiri settings!

Obviously, the common motivator is rAsA music (as in the case with almost all internet writers / amateurs on TFM)

App..thanks for the confirmation. The imagery is very vivid in his writing. First you have to have keen observation, then remember/recollect and re-tell with good language.. he does well on all fronts .. I have followed him on fb but I never go to my wall .. I just read the fb group pages I am in. 
Again thanks for enriching the content here. It is also good to have confirmation from other smart people on the impact of IR's songs.. not just a weird bunch of us alone :-)

"Apart from this, the hero(ine) of the song is of course S Janaki. If you are an aspiring (or even professional) singer out there, you should try this song and emulate her clean execution at the same pitch (F) ... It would do you a world of good and that's the same reason why I attempted it in Piano though its far from perfect :-)

BTW, an extension of that comment (that KJY & KSC drop 50% in efficiency when doing duets) - about my personal (current) ratings of the various singers, on a scale of 10, solos v/s duets...

SPB : solos - 8/10, duets - 20/10 (see exception clause against PS)

SJ : solos - 10/10, duets 20/10

KJY : solos - 9/10, duets 5/10

KSC : solos - 8/10, duets 5/10

PS : solos - 10/10, duets 10/10 (exceptions are her duets with SPB  Where both are losers IMHO)

TMS : solos - 8/10, duets 8/10

A progressive film like Aval Appadithan was made in 1978. Do you believe we have grown since then?

We have regressed really. I’m not sure what is causing this decline. It’s perhaps the mass influx of untrained people into the industry because of the success of filmmakers like Bharathiraja and Ilaiyaraaja. Aval Appadithan was a guerilla attack on the industry by insiders like me. It slipped through their fingers, so to speak. With all the attention that films get these days, I doubt we can get away with such a film any more.

People think Bharathiraja and Ilaiyaraaja just came from their villages and became legends here. They don’t know the training and hard work they had to put in to get where they are today. When we were making Raja Paarvai, Ilaiyaraaja would often request to be excused in the evening. I initially thought he probably wanted some sleep. Later, I came to know that he was taking classes in classical music in the evenings. It is such dedication to learning that gets you to the top.
