Though very frustrating to write on this subject in Tamil (for that matter any Indian language), I decided to press on and take up this unique challenge. It is sad that Indians have a lot of time for stupid films and politics, but not to enhance their own languages in this world of S&T.
I ended up writing an article series for the 'Solvanam' magazine and if everything goes well, it should get published from Jan 2015. Coming to the relevance tot his forum, I used Raja and his music making process as the example for the lay person to understand the way the body creates cells, build proteins and so on. For example, Raja's score sheet is the DNA and Puru is the RNA that orchestrates the DNA instructions and so on.
Those who can read Tamil, may find this interesting as you can go from the known to the unknown. Nothing about Raja will be new to anyone in this forum. I have used convenient high level examples and not much gory detail. As with any analogy, there are limits to this too.
I disagree!
given the prevalent most parsimonious explanation for the origins of life having its roots in the RNA world, the current school of thought (supported by abundant evidence) is in the order of prebiotic RNA precursors - RNA world (with randomly formed peptides) - and then the proto-ribosome world leading rapidly to the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) - around when DNA most likely originated and evolved - LUCA further diverged into the three domains of life eubacteria, archaea and eukarya, which continued to evolve since the hadean times (3.5 billion years ago).
DNA came after RNA and is primarily a 'dumb' information storage material.
So Raaja, musically is both the DNA, as well as the RNA and the protein product - whereas the others are like chaperone proteins.

Point taken. You were the first person I reached out several months ago before I wrote the first word in this series for expert opinion. Even now it is not late. Please point out inaccuracies in the Solvanam article in the comments. Just step in. I will take care of the Tamil aspect.

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 3
randomly stumbled across this video (which is pretty hilarious), but something caught my attention:
seems like Echo needs to pay Raja ~100 Crores as royalties for CD/cassette sales through the years.. ?
this is just speculation on my part, but even if true (100 crores), this would only be the money Echo 'cheated' him out of right? ie; they would have likely underreported the sales..
if we assume 10% (maybe too high, just guessing) royalty fee per sale, that would mean 1000 Crores worth of sales for which Raja did not get his due.. conservatively assuming that total sales over the years has been twice that ie; about 2000 crores of audio sales - that sounds like a 'Limca' record in itself, not sure if even ARR (generally assumed to be successful commerically in terms of audio sales, pan Indian blah blah) comes close to this..

1. IR himself IMHO is the problem - why would anyone want to do things randomly, without even a proper manager taking care of his things? he does everything himself and apparently does not trust anyone in such matters.
2. yes, the 1000s of crores as royalty or sales records would have fetched him enough recognition to get a call from production houses around the world - to even get an accredited music agency to represent any musician/artiste, one needs to show sales on paper/record - what you have mentioned would have most certainly gotten IR the recognition in terms of his salability as a brand name!
3. IR himself has to decide - in a Karoor speech, he states 'its upto my fans to take my music to international awards'! thats not very professional

Salman 15 kOdi rAsA 5 kOdi
But here’s the interesting part. Rumours are rife that the multinational company is paying Salman a whopping Rs 15 crore a year for the association. Meanwhile, South Indian music maestro Ilaiyaraja too has given his nod to the company to launch the mineral water under his name and he is being paid Rs 5 crore for being a part of this.

I agree, badly managed finances/marketing. Even Thiruvaasagam was not managed well, causing lots of heartache in the end. I doubt the value of the royalties could be that high, but never knew, in these days of volume/scale.

Violin from Vicky...........
Violin... romba kashtamana instrument dhan.....
about the violin from him..
" But Violin is the most unforgiving instrument of all. Because as far as knowing how to produce a note is concerned,
If you take a Piano or any key-ed instrument, if I press the Key 'C' or if a cat walks over that key, same note will be produced.
If you take Guitar, there are marked frets which tells you where are the two boundaries that mark the note 'C'.
But Violin is a fret less instrument with no aid given to you to produce a note. You have to generate your own boundaries on a neck that's thinner than a crane. The margin of error allowed in producing a note is zero."

TVR - IR & G Raghavan sir

Exactly.. that is why I sometimes doubt these sort of people. If you want to show your admiration in public by falling at somebody's feet, then do not be apologetic about it. Are you doing it for any selfish/political reasons ? Falling/touching somebody's feet is a very indian custom, almost sacred, that should not be abused for non-genuine reasons.

I know IRIR123 and myself have discussed this aspect of Raaja at length in the older forum and elsewhere.kiru wrote:irir123 wrote:vicks

My point is that Raaja despite all the modern trappings he puts on is essentially a 60s guy.
He grew up seeing MSV,KVM,GKV and likes. A lot of their behavior towards business and monetary aspects has seeped into him.
That is why his acts in this area feels so odd to us. KVM and pugazendhi were never paid royalty for the phenomenal sales of lingashtakam and other
devotional album sales. Later on someone else re recorded the same albums with same SPB - i dont know if KVM or Pugazendhi's family got a dime from it.
So I can understand this bungling by Raaja - It is hard for him to come out of it. When he started the deal with Echo - everyone thought 'look how smart Raaja is".
Now we know where it ended up. However it was a lesson to everyone now. Having said that, digital music market is a very low margin business where the composer gets probably a dime of the $5 album and thats why I see Kamesh trying to get people order CDs with preorder and we need to support him properly
