BTW, thanks to all the conspiracy systems in vogue today, after some more years, people will TOTALLY FORGET that SJ's major TFM career was due to the arrival of a force called IR.

As such, vijay TV claims her to be the "Main lady of SS program" which will probably the future reference about her in TN

In addition, every program of her will shove in some 'mArgazhiththingaL' and such stuff to make people believe that IR or no IR, SJ was ALWAYS a major force in TFM.

If not that is already the case, eventually people will TOTALLY FORGET her rise in 1976 to the top of TFM and what was her stature in TFM prior (nothing significant, except some 20-25 popular songs in 20+ years, some of them great like 'singAra vElanE' yet no significant presence ever).

Her turning point in Tamil films too came about the same time.The veteran composer S. M. Subbaiah Naidu had already composed music for the song " Singara velane vaa vaa…," in 1959 for the film " Konjum Salangai" and had already recorded the Nagaswaram piece of Karaikurichi Arunachalam and was trying many female playback singers for the song that should be sung matching it note for note.When he approached P. Leela ,she strongly recommended that he should try S. Janaki. The song became a sensational hit when the film was released in 1961. In the same year, Singer-composer, A. M. Them came the year 1976 when an unknown composer then, Ilaya Raja, composed music for his first film "Annakkikli".He chose S. Janaki to sing all the songs in this film - which became big hits. After his instant success that was followed by many films coming his way, Ilaya Raja decided to exploit her voice which had a wide range, good voice control with "melting, soft high notes", and the vocal acrobatics it was capable of, equally as a soloist as well as in duets. All the songs became top hits. It was the time, Vani Jayaram was the rising star , pushing P. Susheela almost to second place.But there onward S. Janaki surged ahead as the Queen of the South Indian film music world.

She sang in almost every major South Indian movie in from 1976-1999. She won several awards from government and private institutions during this period. She has a record of maximum singing compared to any other female singer in the Malayalam and Kannada film industry and she also holds the record of singing the most difficult song in South Films i.e. Shiva Shiva Ennada from the Kannada movie Hemavathi.^[11]

Yes, I noticed it was as if they were all very much cautious not to even mention IR's name in any way what so ever. i thought 'Seriously!!??  

I felt like they were trying to take too much of a precaution not to bring up IR's name, probably was intending not to stir SJ, Given the halt between IR & SJ. purely, my guess.

SJ sang best for Raja, agreed, but upto late 80s. After that,
 she made the mark in selected songs and missed it in several others. I wish quite a few of the songs that went her way in the 90s went to either Swarnalatha or Chitra or Sujatha. Case in point-Munnam seidha dhavam from Vanaja Girija. The shrillness of her aging voice reduces the impact instantly. Chitra or Swarna would have made the song an instant classic. Theemergence of new singers in the 90s made SJ's voice sound even older in comparison.

During the recent super singer junior episode with SPB (in which SJ too joined later), he kept referring to her as 'rAtchasi' (comparing her to the 'rAtchasan' rAsA).

This morning drive had 'AgAya gangai' song playing and I had to select "repeat"

Songs like this underline SPB's statement as to why she is a rAtchasi!

Right from the humming in the prelude, where she efforlessly switches to semi-classical style from western, the song is a SJ celebration IMHO.

I've posted previously about SJ's voice getting morphed into a solo violin in the second interlude - while it showcases rAsA's mastery, it also underlines how SJ's voice is so friendly to well orchestrated songs!

Uploaded a YT video (basically audio) with 1 hr and 48 mins of S Janaki humming in IR's music. Compiled 108 songs and spliced them while Prasanna Venkatesan (PrasannaR_ in the forum iirc and @PrasannaR_ on twitter) helped stitch 101 of those different song portions with her hums into a single audio and I added 7 songs which I found last week to make 108 songs. Labor of love took 2 weeks. Do listen

Listened to nizhalgaL album, as a "test ride".

I don't remember "fully" listening to the 4th song of nenjaththaikkiLLAdhE movie ever before.
(The other three are not hard to guess - uRavenum pudhiya vAnil, paruvamE pudhiya pAdal pAdu & E thenRalE).

Even when watching the movie (for the first time, on youtube only), I remember FF-ing the song.

That way, probably this morning was the first time I listened to this song 100% (on raajafm.com during the morning commute).

Since I've read before on tfmpage (and also seen SJ singing a few lines on super singer), I know she is the singer.

OTHERWISE, I couldn't have guessed at all! Not even a small trace of SJ-voice IMHO
