Apparently the movie was a very poor adaptation of the novel, which I believe is considered a masterpiece. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5054443-moga-mul. Reviews are 

I bought the book recently and plan to read it over the next few weeks (maybe months). Looks like music is central to the story, so should make for an interesting read (hopefully).

Daughter of AVM Rajan / Pushpalatha couple & the singer Deepan Chakravarthy (who unfortunately traded off a singing career to such "hero" career)...

Back to Megha after a while and it's impossible to move out of Jeevane and Mugilo (ofcourse Raaja's version). The man's voice has that warmth, closeness and reassurance (i'm lost for words here), that makes you keep running back to him like a lost kid who has found his home. Despite his age, these two songs were wonderfully rendered by the Maestro. I cannot imagine these songs in any other singer's voice, no matter how pleasant it is to the ears, it can never have this kind of impact.

Yes. I usually read very little. To be honest, so far I read only ponniyin selvan (many times) and this novel completely (partially sivagaamiyin sabatham). I read this book in one stretch. I still have a huge impact of this novel and all the characters. It was little disappointing they didn't execute the film well, still I liked it. Please do read.

Today started brilliantly with ponnavani paadam thEdi (rasathantram). engengellaam koottittu pOraaru? Long phrases followed by very short phrases. The melody is not just sweet it is a miracle. Sivaranjani raagathila ippadi oru flavourA? ammadiyO!

Iru paravaigal. So much joy. 1979 was another staggering year for Raja. So many great songs.

Gokul, thanks for sharing "uyira thaa" in such a fab quality. I am hearing this awesone guitar beauty after decades, perhaps. First time I heard it when watching "Velaikkaaran" and needless to say, instantly took to it. But Sasirekha's open throated singing does not suit . Janaki or Chitra , who have generally good volume control should have sung this.
