Father was humming Aagaya Vennilaave yesterday (one of his favourites of IR) and we talked about how there's been nobody after him to come up with a decent Durbari, which was one of the staple ragas in HFM and TFM.  Interesting that the treatment of the raga in Agaya...is a little bit in the direction of Duniya ke Rakhwale while that of Poomalai is more like Jhanak Jhanak.  Both shades of the raga explored beautifully in the maestro's inimitable style.

Caught this on Kalaignar today by chance.  Another brilliant, contemplative melody from a non-genius director film   

Don't remember if I shared this already before. Again, a fairly recent unearthing. Very western composition. Those silken basslines supporting the melody, the classic rising and falling strings that one has come to expect when IR wields the baton, subtle and unexpected rhythmic shifts and Janaki's innocent, starry-eyed rendering. The quintessential 80s Raja.

was checking out Spotify Raaja collection after a long time..so much beef with mostly 320kbps. I can completely forgo the need to carry the collection.
only gripe is titles they come up for some of their compilation :headbang:

CK, this movie also has the other song 'naan kaadhalil pudhu pAdagan' (sung by Jayachandran) that one can so easily stack up with kannan vandhu paadugindran, mandram vandha thendral and the likes. That sweet sound of bass & acoustic drumming... oh! 

Listening to this one for the first time - aathadi allikodi (thendral sudum). From the early synth years; has a very interesting sound to it now. Love the basslines. FinderKeepers should consider beefing this one up and put it on their next collection.
