Famous song - part of the illustrious MTK album that IR did with MSV. I doubt, however, if MSV had any inputs for this particular song. This is an agmark IR number (both tune and orch). MSV possibly just okayed this, much like the kuzhaloodhum kaNNanukku song. He was possibly pleased with the fact that the lyricist GA did a reference to his "vArAyen thOzhi vArAyO'' and IR got it played exactly like the original, though simply for fun.

After repeatedly listening to the bilahari song in Thamizh (koonthalilE mEgham vandhu), I'm not sure if that was really SPS Since the disk cover says so, we cannot question it - however, I seriously doubt whether that too was done by BSS It sounds so similar to the Telugu version (just the female humming portions) and one even wonders whether that was in the "track" and only KJY's voice got replaced by SPB. In any case, it is question for those who can precisely identify the voices (whether it was SPS or BSS who did bAla nAgammA).

Regardless, we have a cracking song for BSS with KJY in this post! With that fantastic and novel rhythm arrangement, IR gave one of his best compositions to showcase Urvashi's sister on screen (Kalaranjini). KJY and BSS sang the song sweetly! One very different, special composition for the singer and the actress on screen. Unfortunately, the on-screen thing was a horror  This came out during my college days and I had the misery of watching this movie (in Maris Fort I think, of Trichy) after enjoying the song for many days from my friend's cassette in the hostel.

What a lovely song!

Beautiful melody with a lot of surprises as it runs thru the course (both in pallavi and saraNam) - the "80's new age rAjA kind" (and not the MSV-era remains) which beautifully applies some of the ICM lessons he was taking at that time period and combine his cine-sensibilities!

Also club that with his terrific fusion orchestration, the experimentation with new sounds by interesting combo of traditional instruments used in ICM + guitar and electronic stuff, brilliantly and without uRuththals.

IR possibly wanted this song to give BSS a big break (like poongathavE for UR, may be) but alas - this became well-known mainly to IRFs and recording centers those days (my Thanjavur friend got it as soon as the disk got released) but not a big hit among general public - as neither the disk made it to radio stations nor did the movie release

What a groovy, hip wrapper around a classical raaga like Kaanada! keeping the main tune aside, only the veenai and the flute calls are a give away to the raagam. IR is a master in this craft. Adequate vocal support by BSS and Deepan
