Counting TFM hits of IR - now @1776 - year 1996 is WIP - poll for "rAman abdullA"

Kaalai kuyilgale and Oru raagam were superhits.  The other 3 songs were moderate hits.

For the first 2 bars, Kaalai kuyilgale is reminiscent of SDB's Khoya khoya chaand, but then IR veers away and owns the song.  Another one of Mohini's superhit solo.

At least a few people have said "unnai vAzhththa vandhEn" was exception (not hit), so leaving that out and adding all other songs to our list.

Definitely heard before, not sure how (most probably on internet, thru forums or posts by IRFs) - this one is nice too, deserved to be a hit!

The next album is familiar to me, with a few songs frequently playing in my drives - however, not sure about the popularity of each song in TN - so, poll needed

Almost a hit album.  Of course, Ila nenje vaa and Kannammaa were superhits and chart toppers for many weeks across media.  Kozhi koovum, Panguniapparam and ChinnamaNi were moderate hits.  The left-out song Dhirana was not heard at all.  P.S.: Kozhi koovum has more views than Ila nenje vaa now!

In the song Panguniapparam, a voice that goes "jinjinaakkadi" - Wikipedia says Ganesan.  One of the YouTube comments say that it was sung by Ganesh of Shankar-Ganesh music director duo.  IS IT REALLY SO?  I seriously doubt that, given how Ganesh indirectly mocked at IR during the PS felicitation event when VM went on a boasting mode about introducing some 40 music directors(!).

So, vaNNa vaNNa pookkaL is another big hit album that IR gave to BM (like many others in 80's).

Other than that AlAp (dhiranA dhiranA) which is more of BGM, let us include all the "songs"

Yes, I do remember watching it years ago.  That is why I asked if anybody knew who that "Ganesan" singer was.  Wikipedia link for that Pangunikkaparam song takes you to Shankar-Ganesh page.  So, maybe, the YouTube user got confused seeing that.  Also, there is no way he was going to sing that short portion for IR.

Nalliravu mella mella and Mega veedhiyil were superhits.  Izhukka izhukka and Unnala thoongala were moderate hits.  Nalliravu mella mella was the go-to song for Doordarshan on every New Year's eve those days, along with the ever-popular Ilamai idho idho!

If someone is telling that "IR is an 80's MD", this statistics should be tossed at them and asked "how many MD's have this many hits in the WHOLE 90's (let alone in one year, such as 1990 or 1991) :

My prediction is we'll have very similar numbers for at least another couple of years at least (before the industry turned their back to him, mostly based on push from groups and not because of lack of great music flow - aided by success of much lesser talents).

In any case, we'll continue with our documentation to keep history books intact!

That is just another viciously PLANTED rhetoric, fuelled by some people in his own industry, popularized by the media which was always working against him, and later lapped by the common people including the so-called "IR fans".

As we have many more years to complete (and possibly another 400+ TFM albums), let us get started with 1992 right away.

Interestingly, AvArampoo got introduced to me only in the new millennium, that too by a Malayali co-worker when I visited him in his village to console his dad's demise.

There is a comment down there "Guruvae Charanam" that belongs to a user called 'Saint SS' who is none other than Joshua Sridhar, MD of Kaadhal movie.  He had his original name with his profile photo which he later changed to stay incognito!  Apparently, a huge fan of IR.

There had been overwhelming response that AvArampoo was a super hit album. Let us include all the 5 songs then. (The small slOgam prior to mandhiram song is bundled and not treated as a separate song).

Possibly Barathan's favorite number in Dasettan's voice   Reminds one of the very many terrific songs that KJY rendered in Malayalam in late 80's and early 90's (for various MDs). என்ன ஒரு செழுமையான குரல்!

The next album appears to be a dubbed one, for director Singeetham. "aboorva sakthi 269".

Not sure if these made it big in TN. Let us hear from TN-ers.
