We're not accounting the "new" popularity of any song during the internet era alone, to consider for the hit status in TN at the time of arrival.

That way, there are only 3 super hit songs that make it to the hit list

Moving on to the next one - this movie was by none other than Mahendran. However, I was familiar with only one song those days (anbu malargaLin sOlai idhu).

Next album is for a Rajini movie, mAveeran and I still remember the "malliseri orchestra" from Kovai blasting that "odhungu odhungu" number in the Palakkad maidAn those days! It should have been a super hit song of that time. nee koduththadha was frequently heard on buses as well.

I don't know about how the other songs fared inside TN - so, a poll is necessary

   Quick question: 'Nilavu suduvathillai' is a film that has a few great songs that were used by Raja in the late 80s again. Did this film get released? Why would Raja reuse 2 of the 4 tunes from this film later on?

Yes, the film did come out during my college days (was a flop but the 'pArijAtham pagalil pooththadhu' and 'nALum en manam' songs were hits).

IR reused those melodies in Telugu movies only IMO. I don't think he reused them in TFM. I heard the Telugu version of 'nALum en manam' in raajafm.com and it was awesome!

(It's possible those Telugu movies got dubbed in Thamizh later on and the songs got dubbed too. From my little experience with those "dubbed" songs as heard on raajafm.com, they most probably didn't involve IR. Please refer my post on the Telugu dubbed songs of anbE Odi vA - in the Telugu dubbed version of azhagAna pookkaL, SPB's voice does not even sync with the rhythm timing  )
