Usha-ji - Glad to know your Mom is well now. With you on the song bring out the worst possible fears, it's such an impactful song. I can never stop breaking down whenever listening to this song.

Actually, in this song, the first charanam is from the husband's perspective and the second charanam is from the son's perspective.

Happened to see the beginning words of a twitlonger link that Nerd posted on twitter (could not continue to read, it was outright rubbish)...it made fun of rAsA as never attempting to do rap.

Well, the fellow who posted much have been getting bottle-fed when rAsA did his rap and said "I'm done with this" Laughing

Folks like us continue to listen to that and being penned by VM, that gets to enter into this thread...(I agree it would have been tough for me to write this but the lines are not extraordinary, there's even a grammatical error as " ரத்தத்தால் அதோ தலை உருளுது"...who knows what we would have got if KH trusted the job upon the vAliba poet who wrote the lovely 'meeNdum meeNdum vA' in the same album...)

Perhaps this was the song initially recorded for the 'vanithA maNi' situation (it even has that train sound)...the Bond and his wife singing about their expected baby. It could have been Kamal's decision to replace it with the racy vanithA maNi and leave out the soft song from making it to the screen IMG.

Well, did I say the couple singing about the fetus? Well, apparently so - but mostly it's bedroom business which was the fav territory for VM. What could have been a song evoking soft feelings ends up almost in pervert territory

The last-but-one song of this seris, vanithA maNi vanamOhini of Vikram (SPB/SJ)

I've earlier written about this in the IR-SPB series at the hub .

While some catchy words and other catchy-sounding-syllables (ததீம் ததீம் ததீம், தந்தோம் தந்தோம், சச்சம் சச்சம் சச்சம், மிச்சம் மிச்சம் மிச்சம்) are filled to match the fast-running tune and thus make one oblivious to the limitations of the poet, if one pays close attention to this celebrated rAsA song, it turns out to be nothing but yet another bed room "விதம்-பதம்-இதம்-பாகம்" kind of typical VM stuff.

Appreciable effort to match the pace of the song but the stuff could make one neLinjify to hear in the living room of home, when children are around Embarassed

Regardless of whatever propaganda, kuzhi paRikkal, public vasaigaL etc (கொஞ்சம் கூடக் கூச்சமே இல்லாமல் "இளையராஜாவுக்கு இளையராஜா பிரச்னை"ன்னு சூப்பர் சிங்கரில் சொல்லுவதெல்லாம் அசிங்கம் பிடித்த ஒரு உதாரணம்) being done by VM, we being the most objective of music listeners, never failed to acknowledge his contribution to TFM - with or without IR.

Unfortunately for facts, and most fortunately for VM, until we had access to a bunch of vinyl covers (mikka nanRi www.musicalaya.net ), we had actually given FAR MORE CREDIT to VM than deserved. After much revelations now, that credit score had come down a lot for VM.

However, our intent is never to take away what is really due for him as stated in the outset.

I've tried to give him as much praises as possible in the case of many songs - the first one, idhu oru ponmAlaippozhudhu, being one of the many examples. Even though the participation of others had been quite limited, I tend to believe that most people who visited this thread were / are generally agreeable to what had been posted here (and that's possibly the reason for not much comments otherwise! That way, there was hardly any need to discuss / argue etc to stamp my opinions).

Now, such objectivity is the reason why I picked a top-fav-number to close this listing, so as to end with as much positive tone as possible. Cited by some musicals as the "perfect-10" song. That is, musically (and not necessarily lyrically). The pAdal varigaL are adequate and do not take away the awesomeness of the composition.

Per a recent Vijay TV super singer episode, VM wrote a different pallavi for EdhEdhO eNNam vaLarththEn of PM.

It went like : நீ சொன்னால் நிலா வருமே, ஊரெங்கும் உலா வருமே, நீ தானே புன்னகை மன்னன்

KSC sang the pallavi and they even recorded it. After which the "இசையமைப்பாளர்" wanted those lines to be changed, as per VM.

There was a lot of argument around it and he had to quickly throw in a different set of lines that got recorded (and that is how the final version of the song is).

VM chose to not mention the name of the MD Laughing

VM penned a song for the movie kALi (1980) .

VM's name first appeared on screen for the movie kALi released on July 3, 1980 well before nizhalgaL (released on November 6, 1980) or soolam (December 12, 1980).

If we include non-hits also, VM should have written at least 300 songs for IR (exact number to be verified with Anbu sir's spreadsheet), I don't think he could have written that many with ARR.

i.e. even if VM wrote EVERY ARR song in TFM. Laughing

However, we know that ARR has possibly more non-VM songs than VM ones.

It should be an easy number to get (for ARR fans, that is)
