Super Singer - Singers of the future

Total kolaveri today.  Shravan sang Putham Puthu Poo decently shruthiwise but his pronunciation is awful.  And you do not sing IR songs like, er, ARR/HJ softy icecream   , it should be a lot more intense and impassioned.  Both Sonia and Priyanka were strangely erratic on Thendral Vandhu Thoongum.  I think it is better on the whole that they do not attempt to unearth these melodies because they fall flat when it comes to doing justice to them.

One AP kid (Pravasthi ) & one KA kid (Spoorthi) make this program quite interesting.

As KSC noted, these two little kids are adorable "thanga kattees"!

I'm surprised that "Anand saar" chose a pedestrian saraNam song 'jil-jil-nenjil-jil-jil' to fight against the terrific-dynamic 'vEdham aNuvilum oru nAdham'

BTW, KSC made some diplomatic cover-up for that jil-jil saraNam "neRaya podi sangathees irukkum"

Watched a WHOLE WEEK's SSJ program (with family of course), that was supposedly of "21st Century Songs"

Well, they started for the first couple of days with D Imman present. And sure, they had 21st century songs. (Obviously the ayyayyayyO AnandhamE & ammAdee ammAdee of kumki had to be featured proudly...and then struggle with recent Vijay jillA songs, oodhAkkalaru rippan etc. The fellow has some decent work lately but cannot run for more than a couple of days on his own possibly).

That was supposedly the "1st round" for the 8 kids who competed for 7 top spots. Then, D Imman had to leave. 

That left Srinivasan & Co to dictate the "2nd round" for next two days. 

Obviously, the kids had to search for all kinds of "forgotten songs of ARR" to make the sugar man happy (i.e. rAvaN and such ones need reminders on TV to keep Rahman relevant in TN, you see).

Well the second round too apparently had such "21st century numbers" and ended with 4 selected and the remaining 4 to fight on "life-line" songs, for the remaining 3 spots.

Last day. 
Life line. 
4 People but only 3 spots. 

AND, REMEMBER, 21ST CENTURY WEEK. 
(i.e. I thought so, but the contestants and program gumbal thought "enough of this 21st century nonsense"  )

There came the first contestant, and the TV with no lajjai,  is showing her singing 'சின்னக்குயில் பாடும் பாட்டு'!
Then came the second, once again the TV had no lajjai, showing him singing 'மன்றம் வந்த தென்றலுக்கு'!
Third one came and her "life-line-performance" too had to have something prior to Y2K, "காதல் ஓவியம், பாடும் காவியம்" and sugar man had to shamelessly give some compliments to that song. (Of course, no praises to the composer).
The fourth and last contestant completed the rape of 21st century business - by picking 'கங்கைக்கரைத்தோட்டம் கன்னிப்பெண்கள் கூட்டம்'


There was interruption by way of Sreeni singing a song for amusement of kids (and me too, who could spot the science teechchar signatures in that such as "நிலவில் எடை குறையும், நீரில் எடை குறையும்" kind of physics lessons  ).

So, it was quite symbolic that today's TN needs to go back to pre-2000 stuff for "life-line". (Or, perhaps they're forced to acknowledge that those kind of songs transcend centuries and millenniums!)

very very good.. and surprisingly for the last few weeks JUDGEs have started to realize that there is someone called
Raaja between MSV and ARR..

And this program adds weight to the saying "வந்தாரை வாழ வைக்கும் தமிழகம்"

As in the case of TFM singers always (read PS / SJ / KSC / SG / SPB / KJY...), the top three of the SS Junior contest are all non-Thamizh kids

Two kids directly from other states (girl from KA and boy from KL) apart from the top contender - Haripriya - who speaks Telugu at home

With this kind of real state, it irritates me to no end when someone calls people of TN as language fanatics who hate people speaking other languages!

This is a nice demonstration of diversity! (Add to this another fact that all the three judges are not of TN origin)

As KSC mentioned, the top 5 kids are truly awesome (supposedly better batch than any other prior season)!

As Nerd has observed in twitter, they had 4 semi-finalists but 6 finalists

Three made it through selection by judges alone (Spurti, Bharath, Haripriya)

Three came through "wild-card" and it was interesting to note that the one who got max votes is the Toronto based girl of SL origin, Jessica.

The crying etc emotional scenes created by Anushya seemed to get her a lot of votes and she made it to the finals by voting too.

The judges then felt it was unjust to leave out Sreesha, after her good performances.

So, there are six for finals
(And definitely some good talent there! Though not at Asianet levels but better than what TN channels typically have)...

Hey Srinivasa, it is not sufficient to simply say "music is god" in reality shows, you should also practice singing very well! Well, take this as a prescription from someone who had gone to a psychiatrist - simply because of the struggle to get someone sing a song!

Off : Aren't you abusing me now because you got angry with me in not joining the"royalty for singers" campaign? Didn't I say such was a shameful business? Already you've smashed the livelihood of the instrumental players by taking the plus track on mobile - and now you're not satisfied with that and want to hit the livelihood of producers and MD's too?

Yes. I too was surprised and shocked that she never knew about the song. But the best part about this season of SS is the selection of songs and a close contest between the singers. They brought back so many gems and varieties which were never thought of in any previous Super Singer seasons. All we got were the same songs repeated again and again with Sayed Suban kind of singers really annoyed more with picking one music director songs and surprisingly won the 2nd place and Judges choice. Even Diwakar was a very limited singer. This time I see a huge difference.
