Diwakar, Sonia - Raaja fans. So deserve to win. As simple as that

For that matter, even Parvathy / Krishnan have preference towards Raaja songs. All Keralites, the kinds who take music seriously.
The maadern youthu dudes like Aravind / Syed are the most annoying. Not just becuase they are Rahman fans. They are pathetic singers.

Re: Super Singer - Singers of the future
I don't understand the antipathy towards Sonia and Parvathy on this board or on hub for that matter. They are not amazing singers by any stretch but their song selections are generally commendable and they are generally melodic and well in tune. They have also done justice, emotionally, to tough songs like Azhagu Malarada/Paadu Nilave/Naadham. As you said, at least they sing the Raja classics unlike Palsadam and cool dude.Nerd wrote:For that matter, even Parvathy / Krishnan have preference towards Raaja songs. (I was just kidding)
Actually, many of us were there for years...me right from tfmpage.com days...stopped posting there last year because of the irritating anti-IR attitude of the new Admin.
Sample of that fellow's anti-IR attitude can be seen in what he compares "Nothing but wind" to:

I had worked out that you people used to be on hub (and read through Suresh's 90s thread there too ) but I didn't know this was the reason you had left. He wouldn't allow us to rant about that Rahman interview in the IR section.

Sarath can easily be dismissed on similar grounds as Sai (immature voice, future prospect etc). They seem to be setting that up going by the guitar-round comments.
Sonia & Krishnan will be shown the door thereafter, giving some "bad-on-that-day" reasons. Both are not too much pro-ARR or pro-modern-MDs.
The question is if not Parvathy, whom else will they pick among the remaining four (Madhumitha, Syed, Aravind & Diwakar).
It is possible they'll crown Diwakar - just to show-off as "we found a mAnikkam from kuppam"...in which case they'll get praise from all quarters
(I think he had every audience somewhat covered, including rAsA group - told once he can sing 100's of rAsA songs by-heart...kAdhal kasakkudhaiyyA etc)
If it happens to be Diwakar, even I may not criticize the judges (means, will let go all their biases / kOLARukaL etc)
As far as sharath is concerned - he is a fully rounded singer and the last one with a good technical grounding left standing in the competition.

Re: Super Singer - Singers of the future
I have a tendency to rush through these SS episodes as my interest is purely limited to hearing good songs performed live and I don't really care who wins, so with that caveat let me say that over the last few weeks I don't recall any particularly memorable performances of any of the singers except Sonia (Ponmeni, Shenbagame, Nadham en jeevane) and Parvathi (Paruvame) and Diwakar (Shambo siva Shambo). I don't remember any of Sharath's performances at all, and all I can say after today's episode is that he is very lucky to have made it to the next round. Extreme sodhappal in lyrics, struggling to pronounce the zha in thaneeril moozhgi kondu (he chose Andhi mazhai), even messing up the tune a bit here and there. Krishnan undoubtedly did better in that lifeline performance or whatever it is called.

You should also check out some of App's posts on the IR-SPB thread. Fun read with liberal doses of masala.crimson king wrote:I had worked out that you people used to be on hub (and read through Suresh's 90s thread there too ) but I didn't know this was the reason you had left. Re: Super Singer - Singers of the future
I did not watch this week's performances as such but from what I have seen of Sharath Santosh, he can do reasonably well technically but lacks a necessary sweetness in his voice. Last week or the week before, he sang some soft number - forgot which - and struggled to generate a soft timbre for it. Emotionally also, he often sounds a bit flat. Several rounds back when he sang Sorgam Madhuvile also, it sounded professional and immaculate but not really raunchy and rocking as it needed to. Other than the two girls (NOT Madhumitha) and Diwakar to some extent, they really need to understand expression in singing a lot more. They are very much lacking compared to all previous rounds of SS, probably including the juniors! I mean, Alka and Priyanka can outsing this bunch easy and even Srinisha was/is more expressive.fring151 wrote:I have a tendency to rush through these SS episodes as my interest is purely limited to hearing good songs performed live and I don't really care who wins, so with that caveat let me say that over the last few weeks I don't recall any particularly memorable performances of any of the singers except Sonia (Ponmeni, Shenbagame, Nadham en jeevane) and Parvathi (Paruvame) and Diwakar (Shambo siva Shambo). Hadn't really heard of Alka till now. Looked up on youtube and found this. Just wow wow wow! Then looked up wiki to see what she has been doing recently. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alka_Ajith. Just heartbreaking to see her being wasted on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQBuN9e_qbU

One of the very best. Her Singaravelane Deva is legendary. And erm, Chillena is flockfuster of this season. Youth aaNda nalla reach (wonder what we are). Will slowly become popular. Just hoping she doesn't go the Harini way and ends up like a Shreya Ghoshal. Also hoping Raaja gives her some very good songs in the future.fring151 wrote:Hadn't really heard of Alka till now. Exactly!!!! I would also love to hear her work with Raja. fring, check out her rendition of a Lata Mangeshkar ghazal Kabhi Nekhi Bhi. Brilliant, and she said she doesn't really know Hindi! I am actually looking for it and unable to find it on YT. Meantime, here's her rendition of Naadham En Jeevane.Drunkenmunk wrote:One of the very best. Her Singaravelane Deva is legendary. Re: Super Singer - Singers of the future
Her 'attack' is so dead on, exactly in the spirit of the original. Soft but intense and open throated. You can't teach that, she's already legend material. Truly a super singer, perhaps the only of that caliber that the show produced.

Got it, here's the ghazal. An incredible rendition, so close to the exacting standards of Lata Mangeshkar.

Also found this slightly off (by her standards) performance of Kaatril Endhan Geetham in SL. Notice how easily she gets up to the high notes compared to the contestant who sang it in the SJ round (think it was either Sound or Madhumitha). And flawless sangidhis in the landing.

Re: Super Singer - Singers of the future
Fab stuff!! Both performances. Something was lacking in Kaatril endhan geetham though, not to mention the terrible accompaniment. Sometimes I feel these songs sound better with no instrumentation at all rather than the cacophony of a sub-standard band.crimson king wrote:Exactly!!!! Re: Super Singer - Singers of the future
She was probably a bit tired in the Kaatril performance. It didn't show in her voice as such, but the lack of intensity. And the accompaniment doesn't help, such bad orchestra kind of forces the singer to follow suit and sing in a lame way because otherwise she would stand out too much.

I do wonder how people manage to get nostalgic about HJ or Anu Malik or Britney or Linkin Park. I understand we all have our tastes but it still takes some doing.fring151 wrote:Youtha pathi enna solla. 2000-2005 il vandha sila Harris Jeyaraj pAttukkulaam youtubela comment pathirkEn - Hit like if you are listening in 2013.
