A few more hits from 70's are still to be posted here in this thread.

Let me focus on them and complete, before moving on to next decade where KJY had a lot more songs from MDs other than IR

If not for wikipedia and youtube, I wouldn't have imagined this to be KJY - even though I clearly remember listening to this song on radio during school days (and thus want to classify this song from 1964 to be a hit song - the 2nd of KJY in TFM) :

As some websites credit this song to S M Subbiah, I had to ask the question to those with expertise / industry connections and confirm that it was indeed Veda - I should thank both @kanapraba and @rajinirams for immediately getting back

There is yet another song from 60's and this one too had its radio time (I myself have heard it a few times, though without realizing that it was KJY )

Per wilki and other internet sources, this is from 1963 - if so, it predates bommai - so I'm not sure why that bommai song is generally believed to be the singer's first in TFM

This song is very familiar to me from the 78 RPM record days, heard it frequently (both on radio and other functions) - never thought this was KJY

After the arrival of IR, lot of MDs turned toward "folk" and Shankar-Ganesh had been somewhat successful in getting a few hit songs.  They deliberately used a lot of "uRumi mELam" those days, to establish the "folkness" of such songs.
(kannipparuvaththilE was their biggest hit among those).

This song had KJY as pinnanikkural for Ganesh (yes, the music director) also acting as hero in a movie. Of cours, "folk, with uRumi mELam"

The song was quite popular those days (and has a lot of views on YT also)

I've earlier posted the G Devarajan song from the famous movie "annai vELAnkanni" featuring JJ on screen (vAnamenum veedhiyilE).

Found out today that there's another KJY song in that same album - and this too got played frequently in village festivals. (Especially where there are church festivals and the likes).

The 1975 album 'swAmi ayyappan' was a huge success in both Tamil and Malayalam, composed by Devarajan master.

KJY had many songs in them. They played everywhere in both Kerala and TN (not just then but for years thereafter - most of us would have listened to them at one point of time or other - in my case, always involuntarily )

While I'm very familiar with this song (and heard in 100's of times, all involuntarily those days and can thus confirm it to be a hit), did not know much about the details.

From the net, it appears to have been done by L Vaidyanathan (though could not confirm by sleeves / posters etc.) - only wikipedia as the source, so, cannot vouch for authenticity!

Now getting into 80's - the most productive and busiest period of KJY's career. (Both IR and non-IR). 

Of course, he was "mudi soodA mannan" of Kerala with many youths sporting a beard like him  He had many hits in TFM as well.

Starting with a Salilda number, perhaps the only Tamil song left under his baton for this thread - for an off-beat (festival grade) movie starring Vijayakanth.

During my college days (1981-85), T Rajendar was the worthy rival to Ilayaraja - I mean commercially - and he did have a couple of hits in those years with KJY. (Most of TR songs had SPB, of course).

An interesting KJY song that had both SPB & SJ singing with him - and this came during my college days.

Funny that wikipedia lists this song under Bappi Lahiri Which was true (as the original was done by him in Hindi) but the TFM song / disc is actually credited with Shankar-Ganesh.

S-G were like "TN distributors / dealers" for many Bappi Lahiri songs those days (take the track and dub with Tamil song kind of work) and the credits were often given to either. Also, Bappi Lahiri didn't have the habit of doing OST BGM (only songs, you see, I'm very busy).

Well, this is quite a catchy song regardless!

Raveendran master, who made many evergreen songs in Malayalam with KJY, did a few Tamil movies.

Of those, "rasigan oru rasigai" had 3 hit songs with KJY (couple of them very popular to this day and the third one had decent air time when it arrived).

Adding 3 songs to the thread from Manoj-Gyan, who were quite popular in the late 80's with a few hit albums to their credit. Especially oomai vizhigaL which was a smash hit.

Two of these are super hit songs while the third one had limited reach (sounds like old Hindi song or Malayalam song).

MSV did not have too many super hit songs with KJY in the 80's or later.

That was obviously because of the IR juggernaut - but he also tended to lean more on SPB (for Kamal / Rajini / Sivaji kind of big star movies and not KJY for some reason).

Despite the overall numbers, some MSV-KJY songs made it really big - played everywhere in buses / tea stalls etc. I mean as much popular as IR or TR numbers in those years. Let me collect a couple of them in this post, to reach the thread century

When a set of newcomers made a movie on pollution and such off-beat theme for 80's, they roped in IR's buddy L Vaidyanathan as MD.
