அந்தக்காலத்துப் பாட்டுக்கேட்டு அதனால் பழைய நினைவுகள் தூண்டப்படுவது எல்லோருக்கும் நடப்பது. 
(அப்படி உந்தப்பட்டு நூற்றுக்கணக்கில் பதிவுகள் இட்டவன் தானே நான்?)

ஆனால், அண்மைக்காலத்துப் பாட்டு ஒன்று எனது பள்ளிக்காலத்துக்கும் அங்கும் இங்கும் அலைக்கழிப்பது அரிதான ஒன்று. அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு நிகழ்வு குறித்த பதிவு இது. 

டெட்ராய்ட் - சிகாகோ, இண்டியானாப்பொலிஸ் - சிகாகோ என்று பல பயணங்களில் மைக்கேல் ஜாக்சன் பிறந்த ஊரான "கேரி" என்ற நகரைக் கடந்து சென்றிருந்தாலும் காலடி வைத்ததில்லை. அண்மையில் ஒரு நாள் மில்வாக்கியில் இருந்து இண்டி செல்லும் வழியில் கொலைப்பசியின் விளைவாக முதன்முதலாக அந்த ஊரில் கால் பதித்தேன். 

சிறிய அளவில் உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டது உண்மையே.

உணவுக்காக இடம் தேடியபோதே நகரின் ஏழ்மை பல்லிளித்தது. அதன் பின்னரும் சற்றுச்சுற்றிய போது புரிந்தது, மைக்கேலின் பிற்கால வாழ்க்கை போன்றே பொலிவில்லாத ஒரு பாழ்நகரம் என்று :-(

சற்றே சோர்வுடன் வண்டியில் ஏறியதும் இட்ட பாடல் தான் இது - பின்னர் கிட்டத்தட்ட 2 மணி நேரம் அதையே கேட்டுக்கொண்டு வண்டி ஓட்டினேன் - அப்போது மனதில் தோன்றிய நினைவுகளே இவை!

திண்டுக்கல்லில் "காட்டாஸ்பத்திரி" என்று அழைக்கப்படும் தூய வளனார் மருத்துவமனை மிகப்பழைய ஒன்று. (இப்போது ஊரின் நடுவில் இருந்தாலும் தொடங்கிய காலத்தில் ஊருக்கு வெளியே காட்டில் இருந்தது என்பது பெயர்க்காரணம்). மாபெரும் அந்த வளாகத்தில் டேமியன் பாதிரியின் நினைவாகத் தொழுநோய் மருத்துவம் செய்யும் சிறப்புப்பிரிவு அந்தக்காலத்தில் இருந்தது. சேவை மனப்பான்மையுடன் நடத்தப்பட்ட ஒன்று. அதோடு பள்ளிகளில் விழிப்புணர்வுக்காக ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் வகுப்புகள் போட்டிகள் என்றெல்லாம் நடத்துவார்கள் - எங்கள் சிற்றூருக்கும் வந்து அப்படி நடத்திய போட்டிகளில் சிலமுறை பரிசு கிடைத்திருக்கிறது.

பரிசளிப்பு கொடுப்பது ஒரு கலைவிழாவில் நடப்பது வழக்கம். பல பள்ளிகளும் போட்டி போட்டுக்கொண்டு நடனம், பாட்டு என்று சிறப்பாக இருக்கும். அப்படி ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியில் தான் முதன் முதலாக ராசாவின் "சுராங்கனி" பாடல் கேட்டேன். ஆனால் அந்தப்பாடல் குறித்தல்ல இப்பதிவு!

"ஜெகம் புகழும் புண்யகதை" என்ற பாடலும் இப்படி ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியில் தான் எனக்கு அறிமுகம். இரண்டு பெண்கள் லவனும் குசனுமாக உடையணிந்து கொண்டு சிறப்பாக நடனமாட இந்தப்பாடல் ஒலித்தது. அதன் பின் வானொலில் கேட்கும்போதெல்லாம் வேடிக்கையாக இருக்கும். (78 RPM தகட்டின் ஒரு பக்கத்தில் கொள்ளாது என்பதால் இரண்டு பக்கங்களிலும் இந்தப்பாட்டு இருக்கும். தட்டைத்திருப்ப எடுக்கும் நேரம் வானொலியே அமைதியாக இருக்கும்). 

அந்தப்பாட்டைக் கண்டிப்பாக ராசாவுக்கு ஸ்ரீராமராஜ்யம் பாட்டுக்கு ரெஃபெரென்ஸ் கொடுத்திருப்பார்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். அதே "தகிட-தகிட" நடை, அது போன்றே சில தாள மற்றும் வேக மாற்றங்கள். ஆனால், அவ்வளவு நீளம் இல்லை. அதை விட எனக்கு மிக மிக இனிமை கூடுதல், இந்த "தேவுள்ளே மெச்சிண்டி" .

ராசாவிடம் பாடிய குரல்களிலேயே இனிமை படு தூக்கலாக இருக்கும் இரண்டு பெண்குரல்கள் சேர்ந்திசை நடத்தினால் இனிமைக்குக் கேட்க வேண்டுமா? அந்தத்தொடக்கமே நம்மைத் தேனில் மூழ்கடிக்கிறது - போதாக்குறைக்கு அந்த ஹம்மிங்கைத் தொடர்ந்து வரும் கருவி இசை - அட அட - அதன் இறுதியாகப் பல்லவிக்கு இணைக்கும் "connector" எல்லாம் ராசாவின் துல்லியத்துக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டு. 

இடையிசைகளில் 2000-க்குப்பின்னான ராசாவின் sophistication இருந்தாலும், சரணத்துக்கான அவரது traditional நாடன் அடியும் தாளமும் தான் பாட்டின் மிகச்சிறப்பான ஒன்று என்பது என் கருத்து! 

அதிலும், குறிப்பாக இரண்டாம் சரணத்தின் நடுவில் அந்த அடியும் விரைவும் மீண்டும் வரும்போது மெய் சிலிர்க்கும்!

சுந்தரத்தெலுங்குப்பாட்டு என்றாலும் கேட்கையில் தமிழ் போன்றே ஒட்டிக்கொள்கிறது! "சத்ருக்-லுலு" என்று வருகையில் தான், "ஓ- இது தெலுங்கல்லவா" என்று நினைவுக்கு வரும்

கேக்கின் மேலே க்ரீம் போல இனிப்பு மிகத்தூக்கலாக இருக்கும் இந்த இடம் வருகையில் எனக்குப் புன்முறுவல் வரும் - ஏனென்றால், எந்த மொழி என்றாலும் பாட்டென்றால் "தொடை" வேண்டும் (எதுகை / மோனை / ரைம்) என்று உணர்த்தும் பகுதி -  

சிவதனு வதிகோ - நவவது விதிகோ - ரகுராமுனி தேஜம் அபயம் அடிகதிகோ 
சுந்தர வதனம் - சூசின மதுரம் - நகுமோமுன வெளிகே விஜயம்  அடிகதிகோ

"வதிகோ - விதிகோ - கதிகோ" - இந்தச்சொற்களுக்கு ஒரு சிறிய புன்முறுவல் கூட வரவில்லை என்றால் நீங்கள் உண்மையிலேயே படு சீரியஸ் பேர்வழி என்று பொருள்!
 
மற்றபடி எனது கல்லூரித்தோழனான சுந்தரவதனம், பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் ஒரே ஒரேமுறை பழகிய உறவினரான மதுரம், கௌசிக முனி என்று வரும்போது விருதுபட்டியில் (காமராசர் மற்றும் நான் பிறந்த ஊரு)  தண்ணீர் இல்லாமல் ஓடிய கௌசிக நதி - எனப்பலவற்றையும் நினைவு படுத்தி - அப்படிப்பல பழைய நினைவுகளை இந்த நூற்றாண்டின் பாடல் எனக்குத் தருவது அண்மையில் நேரிட்ட இன்னொரு விந்தை!

பச்சனுக்கு என்னமோ விருதாம்

தாதா சாகேப் பால்கே விருது அமிதாப்புக்கு அறிவித்திருக்கிறார்கள். நல்ல செய்தி தான்

அதாவது, "வேறு யார் யாருக்கோ கிடைக்கவில்லையே" என்று வருத்தப்படாத (அதாவது, இந்த விருதைப்பற்றி அப்படிப்பெரிதாக ஒன்றும் நினைத்துக்கொள்ளாத) என்னைப்போன்றோருக்கு இது கெட்ட செய்தியல்ல

வெறுமென கலை என்ற அடிப்படையில் மட்டும் பார்த்தால் நமக்குக் கொஞ்சம் பிடித்த ஆள் தானே என்ற விதத்தில் நான் இதைக்கொண்டாட முடிவு செய்து இன்று காலை முதல் வண்டியில் ரிப்பீட்டாக "பிடிலி கி பாத்தேன்" என்ற பாட்டைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்

அல்லாமல், நான் நேரடியாகச் சந்தித்துக் கைகுலுக்கிய ஒரே பிரபலம் என்ற விதத்தில் இதையெல்லாம் கொண்டாடியே தீர வேண்டும் அல்லவா? (சூரிக் விமான நிலையத்தில் இவரைக்கண்டவுடனே அங்கிருந்த கூட்டமெல்லாம் "சுவிஸ் வங்கியில் பணம் போட்டு விட்டுப்போகிறார்" என்று முணுமுணுத்தாலும் எனக்கென்னமோ ஒரு சிறுபிள்ளைத்தனமான த்ரில் இருந்தது என்பது மெய்)

திரைத்துறையை விட்டு வெளியே பார்த்தால் கிட்டத்தட்ட நமக்குப்பிடித்த அல்லது பிடிக்காத அவ்வளவு கலைஞர்கள் வாழ்விலும் எக்கச்சக்க நாற்றம் இருக்கக்கூடும் என்பதால் தற்போதைக்கு மூளையின் அந்தப்பகுதிக்கு ஒய்வு கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன்.

மற்றபடி என் பள்ளிக்காலத்தில் "சினம் பிடித்த இளைஞன்" வேடத்தில் பல படங்களில் நடித்து சிறுவர் பெரியவர் எல்லாரையும் கவர்ந்த பெரும் கலைஞன் என்பதை அவரது பிற்கால அரசியல் நெளிவு சுளிவுகள் கண்டு முகம் சுளித்து வெறுப்போராலும் மறுக்க முடியாது! (மேலும், இவரது அரசியலால் நேரடியாக என்னைப்போன்றோருக்கு அவ்வளவு பெரிய கெடுதல் ஒன்றும் நடக்கவில்லை என்பதும் உண்மை - பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி போன்றவர் அந்த இடத்தில்)

இவற்றுக்கெல்லாம் வெளியே, புதிய நூற்றாண்டில் ராசாவும் பால்கியும் இவரும் கூட்டணியாகக் கொஞ்சம் இந்தி உலகுக்கு நல்ல இசை கொண்டு சேர்த்தார்கள் என்பது இவரைக் கொண்டாட #1 காரணம் - ராசாவுக்காகக் கமல், ரஜினியை மும்பை அழைத்து விழா எடுத்ததும் நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது! (ஷமிதாப்).

அப்படியாக, எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் சேர்த்து - அவரது சிறப்பான குரலுக்கும் சேர்த்து - வாழ்த்துக்கள் சொல்லி, பிடிலி என்ற "பொருத்தமான" பாடலை (என்ன ஒரு terrific orchestration by IR - முகப்பிசையிலேயே விழுந்து விடுவோம்!!) என்னோடு கேட்டு மகிழ அழைக்கிறேன்!

சில நாட்களாக நெடுந்தொலைவு, சிறுபயணம் என்று எல்லாவற்றிலும் முழுக்க முழுக்க ஒலித்துக்கொண்டிருப்பது இந்த சித்ரா சேச்சி - தாசேட்டன் பாட்டு.

முன்னமே ஏழடிச்சுழற்சி இழையில் இது பட்டியல் படுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இதன் தமிழ் டப்பிங் வடிவமும் "ஆகாயம் - பூலோகம்" என்று பாலு குரலில் இருக்கிறது. சொற்களும் குரலும் தவிர மற்றபடி அதே பாட்டுத்தான். பெண்குரல் யாரென்று தெரியவில்லை - அது ஒரு புறம் இருக்கட்டும்.

இந்தப்பாடலின் இரண்டாம் இடையிசை அண்மையில் நம்ம இசை வல்லுநர் @raaga_suresh எழுதிய "தாளக்கருவிகள் வழியே உணர்ச்சிப்பரிமாற்றம்" என்ற பொருளுக்கு ராசா கொடுத்திருக்கும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான எடுத்துக்காட்டுக்களில் ஒன்று. (காட்சிப்படுத்தலில் அப்படி இல்லை என்றாலும் மற்றபடி அமைதியாகச் செல்லும் பாட்டில் இப்படிச் சட்டென்று அடிதடி வருவது மனதின் உளைச்சல் அல்லது சூழல் மாற்றம் என்று யாருக்கும் எளிதில் புலப்படும் ஒன்றே. இப்படி எத்தனை எத்தனையோ ராசா போகிற போக்கில் செய்து விட்டுப்போயிருக்கிறார் என்பது தெரிந்ததே - காட்சிகளுக்கான பின்னணி இசையை எல்லாம் சேர்த்தால் கணக்கு வழக்கில்லாமல் இருக்கும்).

இந்தப்பாடலின் ஆகச்சிறந்த இடமாக எனக்குப்படுவது சரணத்தின் பின்பகுதியில் வரும் வரிகளுக்கான மெட்டு - அட அட - என்ன ஒரு "பறப்பது போன்ற" உணர்வு தருகின்றது!

வடக்கத்தியச் செவ்விசையா தென்னிந்தியச் செவ்விசையா என்று எப்படி வேண்டுமானாலும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளத்தக்க - வெறும் "ஆ"காரத்தால் மட்டும் பாடினால் ஒருவேளை  அவலச்சுவை அல்லது அழுகை ஒலி வேண்டுமென்றாலும் தரக்கூடிய மெட்டு. ஆனால், இந்தப்பாட்டில், பொருத்தமான இடத்தில், சிறப்பான சொற்களோடு வந்து விழுகையில் நம்மைப் பறக்க வைக்கிறது!

பல்லவி அவ்வப்போது ராசா உண்டாக்கும் "உடைத்து-உடைத்து-ஒட்டும்" வகை மெட்டு.  அதாவது, இளையநிலா -உடை - பொழிகிறதே-உடை-இதயம் வரை - உடை - நனைகிறதே ; ஊரு சனம் - உடை - தூங்கிருச்சு - போன்றவை போன்ற வடிவமைப்பு. 

ஒட்டுவதற்கு அவ்வளவாக மெனக்கெடாமல் வெறும் ஒரு தட்டுத்தட்டி அதன் வழியிலேயே கலக்குகிறார்! போதாக்குறைக்கு மிஸ்ரநடை + பேஸ் கிட்டார் நுணுக்கங்கள். 

முழுக்க முழுக்க ஆழ்ந்து சுவைக்கத்தக்க ரிப்பீட் பாடல்! (சித்ரா பாடும் அழகு குறித்துச் சொல்லவும் வேண்டுமா? தாசுக்கு வெள்ளிக்கிண்ணம் தான் என்றாலும் தமிழில் பாடியிருப்பதற்கெல்லாம் பல மடங்கு மேல்)!

நீச்சல் உடையும் நைட்டியும்

எச்சரிக்கை :
தலைப்பைப் பார்த்ததும் ஏதோ கிளுகிளுப்பு அல்லது உமிழ்நீர் ஒழுகல் கட்டுரை என்று நினைக்க வேண்டாம் - பகடி (அல்லது முயற்சி) என்று கருத்தில் கொண்டு படிக்கவும்!

மணற் கடிகை போன்ற உடல் என்றும் உலகில் உள்ள பூக்கள் காய்கள் பழங்கள் விலங்குகள் பறவைகள் கொண்டெல்லாமும் பெண்களைக் கவிகள் பாடியிருப்பது உலகறிந்த ஒன்று. (வாழைத்தண்டு போல உடம்பு / கொத்தவரங்காய் போல உடம்பு என்றெல்லாம் தமிழ்த்திரைப்பாடல்கள் கேட்டு வளர்ந்திருக்கிறோம்). இவற்றையெல்லாம் பயன் படுத்தி வசீகரிக்கவோ அல்லது வாங்கிக்கட்டிக்கவோ செய்வது ஆண்களின் அன்றாட வாழ்வு!

என்றாலும், சில பல ஆண்டுகளாக இந்த ஒற்றைத்துண்டு நீச்சலுடை மற்றும் நைட்டி என்பனவோடு வேடிக்கையான இரண்டு உவமைகள் தான் எனது மனதுக்கு வருகிறது என்பதால் தான் இந்தப்பதிவு!

இணையத்தளத்தில் சில ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் ராசா-பாலு இணைந்த பாடல்கள் குறித்த பதிவுகள் இட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்த போது 'தென்றலே என்னைத் தொடு படத்தின் 'புதிய பூவிது' பாடல் குறித்து பாண்டிச்சேரி மருத்துவர் (ரேடியோ சந்திரா என்ற பெயரில் உலா வந்தவர்) சொன்ன கருத்து இன்றும் நினைத்து நினைத்துச்சிரிக்கும் ஒன்று.

Watched this movie at Jeeva - Rukmani theatre ( now AdLabs) at Pondicherry with my dad. Utter bore but for the songs. Imagine, my dad was interested in the movie because the debutante heroine Jayashree was his friend's daughter, and he had known her as a child. Though the Hamsanadham based "Thendral Vandhu ennai thodum" and the most popular song of that time " Kanmani Nee vara Kaarthirundhen" went to KJY, " Pudhiya Poovidhu" and the fast paced " kavithai paadu kuyile kuyile" were also enjoyable.

"Pudhiya Poovidhu" was indeed a swimming pool song and Jayashree will look like a swim suit clad INDANE gas cylinder. IR's trademark mood changing style can be seen in the charanam where the song transits to " Thallaadum Megangale, Kovil theppangal Pol aadumo ". Indha idam varum pothu mattum, intha paattin sugam pala madangu koodum. Raasaa raasaa thaan.

"இண்டேன் காஸ் சிலிண்டர்"  - ஹா ஹா ஹா - என்ன ஒரு கற்பனை!

அப்படியாக,  அந்தநாள் முதல் சிங்கிள் பீஸ் நீச்சலுடை என்றவுடன் எனக்கு நினைவுக்கு வரும் உவமை "இண்டேன் காஸ் சிலிண்டர்" என்றாகி விட்டது.

அடுத்து நைட்டி - இந்த அளவுக்கு எனக்கு எரிச்சல் ஊட்டும் உடை வேறொன்றுமில்லை என்றாலும் ஒரே ஒரு நேரத்தில் மட்டும் இது எனக்குப்பிடிக்கும்.

(சேர நன்னாட்டிளம் அழகிய மனைவி மீது ஐயம் கொண்ட எவனோ ஒரு மனப்பிறழ்வு கேஸ் கண்டுபிடித்தது - அல்லது மத்தியக்கிழக்கில் இருந்து மலையாளக்கரை மீண்டு வந்தவன் ஒருவனது மனப்பிறழ்வால் உண்டான கண்டுபிடிப்பு - என்பது என் கருத்து. கைபர்-போலன் கணவாய்கள் வழியே இந்தியாவுக்குள் படையெடுத்து வந்தது போல ஆரல்வாய்மொழி மற்றும் பாலக்காட்டுக் கணவாய்கள் வழியே இந்த உடை தமிழ்நாட்டுக்குள் படையெடுத்து வந்ததில் எக்கச்சக்க எரிச்சல் கொண்டவன் நான்).

நைட்டி எனக்கு மகிழ்வு தரும் ஒரே நேரம் துவைத்த துணி மடிக்கும் பொழுது தான். அதற்கு மூன்று காரணங்கள்!

1, மடிப்பது மிக எளிது.

2. ஒரு நைட்டி மடித்தவுடனேயே மிச்சம் இருக்கும் துணிக்குவியல் சட்டென்று பெரிய அளவில் குறைவது காணும்போது சிறுபிள்ளைத்தனமான ஒரு மகிழ்ச்சி.

3, ஒரு சம்பவம் நினைவுக்கு வருவதால் வரும் சிரிப்பு :-)

வாய்ப்புக்கிடைக்கும் போதெல்லாம் நைட்டியை (மனைவியிடம்) கரித்துக்கொட்டித் திட்டித்தீர்ப்பது என் வழக்கம்.

என்றாலும், இதை என்னை விடவும் கூடுதல் வெறுக்கும் ஆள் ஒருத்தர் இருக்கிறார் என்று தெரிந்த நாளில் அடைந்த மகிழ்ச்சி அளவற்றது - அதாவது, என் சகலை - மனைவியின் தங்கை கணவர்.

ஒரு நாள் அவரது மனைவியிடம் (கூட 4 மச்சினிகளும் நிற்கும் போது) பெரும் எரிச்சலுடன் அவர் சொன்னது இன்றும் காதில் ஒலிக்கிறது :

"ஆமா, வீட்டுக்குள்ள நுழைஞ்சதுமே இதை எடுத்துத் தலை வழியா மாட்டிக்கிட்டு ரோட் ரோலர் மாதிரி வந்து நிப்பீங்க"!

அன்று நான் சிரித்த சிரிப்புக்கு அளவில்லை! ஒவ்வொரு முறை துணி மடிக்கும்போதும் அது நினைவுக்கு வருவதால் சிரித்து விடுவேன்!

சந்தூர் இழையிலும் உமா ரமணன் இழையிலும் முன்னமே இந்தப்பாடல் வந்திருக்கிறது. மனோ பாடியவற்றிலேயே இது தான் மிகச்சிறப்பானது என்றும் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறேன். (அவருடைய பாடும் தன்மைக்கு மிகவும் பொருந்தி வந்ததால் அப்படி).

அண்மைக்காலங்களில் வண்டியில் repeat ஆக அடிக்கடி இந்தப்பாடல் ஓடுகிறது. அப்படிக்கேட்கும்போது மனதில் தோன்றுபவைகளை இங்கே பதிவு செய்கிறேன்.

படம் எப்போதோ டிவிடியில் பார்த்தது என்றாலும் முழுவதும் நினைவில்லை. என்றாலும், பாடல் வரிகளின் அடிப்படையில் திரைக்காட்சி அமைப்பு மூன்று விதத்துன்பங்கள் உள்ள குடும்பச்சூழல் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.

மூன்றுமே மிகக்கொடுமையானவை :

1. அம்மா இல்லாத பிள்ளை
"தாயில்லாப்பிள்ளை" என்று யாரையாவது குறித்துக்கேட்டாலே கண் கலங்கி விடும். நான் அந்த நிலையின் துன்பத்தைப்பட்டதில்லை என்றாலும் படுவோர் பலரும் சொல்லிக்கேட்பதால் வந்த உணர்வாக இருக்கலாம்

2. கண் பார்வை இல்லாத அண்ணி (வளர்ப்பு அன்னை)
உடல் ஊனங்கள் எல்லாமே துன்பம் தருபவை என்றாலும் விழி இல்லா நிலை அவற்றிலேயே  ஒரு விதத்திலும் என்னால் தாங்க / உட்கொள்ள முடியாத துன்பநிலை :-(  இருளில் தட்டுத்தடுமாறி எப்போதாவது நடக்கும் சில நிமிடங்களே நமக்கு எளிதல்ல என்று எண்ணுகையில் வாழ்க்கை முழுதும் இருளில் என்பது - எண்ணும்போதே மனதைப் பிசைகிறது.

3. வாய் பேச முடியாத பையன் (தம்பி)
சைகை மொழியில் நடந்த ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சிக்குச் செல்லும் வாய்ப்பு சில ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் நேர்ந்தது. ஆயிரக்கணக்கில் காது கேளாதோர் மற்றும் அவர்களுக்குச் சைகை மொழி கற்றுக்கொடுப்போர், படிப்பு சொல்லிக்கொடுப்பதற்காக சைகை மொழி கற்போர் என்று பெரிய கூட்டம்.

கேட்கும் திறன் இல்லாததால் பலரும் பேசவும் கற்காமல் ஊமைகளாக இருப்பது இன்னும் கொடுமை.

அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் கைகளை அசைத்து ஒரு பாடல் "பாடிய" போது மனங்கலங்கி அப்படியே கண்கள் குளமானது - தாங்க முடியாத துயரம், அங்கே நெடுநேரம் என்னால் இருக்க முடியவில்லை!

இப்படி மூன்று கொடுமையான துன்பங்கள் உள்ள குடும்பம் என்றாலும் என்னவோ நல்ல நிகழ்ச்சி நடக்கிறது, அதற்கான பாடல் என்ற சூழல் கிடைத்தவுடன் ராசா அதில் ஆழ்ந்து விட்டார் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.

முகப்பிசையிலேயே நம்மை உருக வைத்து விடுகிறார் - அந்த செனாய் இசையின் பிற்பகுதியில் வரும் அவலச்சுவை (தன்னா தன்னே / தன்னா தன்னே / தானே) கண்களைக் கலங்க வைத்து விடும்! அதற்குத் துணையாக சந்தூரும் சேருகிறது! சூழலுக்கு எவ்வளவு பொருத்தம்!

தொடர்ந்து இனிமையும் இன்பமும் துன்பமும் ஒன்றாக இணைந்த சிறப்பான மெட்டில் பல்லவி அப்படியே நம்மைக் கட்டிப்போட்டு விடுகிறது. இங்கே மனோவின் குரல் முழுமையாகப் பொருத்தம்! கொஞ்சம் கெஞ்சல், இரத்தல் எப்போதும் அவர் குரலில் இருக்கும் (அதனால் காதல் சூழல்களுக்கு அவ்வளவாக ஒவ்வாது) - இந்தச் சூழலுக்கு 100% பொருந்துகிறது!

தந்தியிசையும் குழலிசையம் எப்போதும் போலத்தாலாட்டுகிற முதல் இடையிசை - கீபோர்டு ஒலிகளோடு சிறப்பாக நிறைவு செய்துவிட்டு இதோ வருகிறது சரணம்.

வழக்கம் போல ராசா பல்லவி மெட்டிலிருந்து முற்றிலும் வேறுபட்ட சரணமெட்டுடன் வருகிறார் -  தபலா விளையாடுகிறது. அப்படியே சொக்கிப்போய்க்கேட்கிறோம். சில வரிகள் நம்மைத்தொட்டாலும் இங்கே அவ்வளவு பெரிதாக ஒன்றும் உறைக்கவில்லை என்பதால் மனம் தாளத்தில் ஒன்றி அப்படியே ஆடிக்கொண்டு செல்கிறது,

மீண்டும் பல்லவி வந்து தாலாட்டுகிறது.

சித்தாரும் கித்தாரும் கொஞ்சிக்கொஞ்சி நிறைவு செய்யும் அந்த இரண்டாம் இடையிசை - அட அட ! ராசாவின் பல பாடல்களைப்போன்றே இங்கும் முகப்பிசை / முதல் இடையிசை இவற்றைத் தூக்கிச் சாப்பிடுகிறது! அப்படியே உருகிப்போன நிலையில் நாம் இருக்கையில் வாலி வந்து "நானும் லேசுப்பட்ட ஆளில்லை" என்று இரண்டாம் சரணத்தில் நம்மை அடிக்கிறார்!

நாட்டுப்புறத்தில் உள்ள சில அறிவுகெட்ட பேச்சு வழக்குகளில் ஒன்று "அண்ணன் பொண்டாட்டி அரைப்பொண்டாட்டி..." அருவருக்கத்தக்க இப்படிப்பட்ட வழக்குகள் உள்ள அதே சமுதாயத்தில்  அண்ணிமார்கள் உண்மையில் எப்பேர்ப்பட்ட சிறப்புடன் தாய்களாக வாழ்கிறார்கள் என்று அடித்துச்சொல்லும் அந்த வரிகள்:

"எந்தன் கண்களில் பார்வை வந்தால் முதல் பார்வையிலே ஐயா உன் பொன்முகம் பார்ப்பேன்"

எப்பேர்ப்பட்ட ஒரு அன்னை மனம்! கணவனின் இளவல்களைத் தம் சொந்தக்குழந்தைகளாகத் தான் நம் நாட்டில் பெண்கள் காண்கிறார்கள் - காக்கிறார்கள் என்ற அருமையான உண்மையை இவ்வளவு அழகாக இங்கே வாலி எழுதி அண்ணிகளுக்குப் பெருமை சேர்க்கிறார்! வாழ்க! அதுவும் பார்வையில்லாத ஒரு பெண்ணின் உள்ளத்திலிருந்து பொங்கும் இந்த உணர்வுகள் மயிர்க்கூச்செரிய வைப்பவை!

ஆக மொத்தம் எல்லாவிதமான சிறப்புகளும் நிறைந்து விளங்கும் ஒரு அறுசுவை விருந்தான பாடல்! அவலச்சுவை, இனிமை, ஆழ்ந்த உறவுகளின் பாசம், மனதை அவ்வப்போது அறுத்துப்பார்க்கும் துன்பம் - இப்படி எல்லாம் கலந்த ஒரு சின்னக்காவியம்!

IR modulates his voice to fit a young, rural man.  He brings in innocence, emotions of joy & love, and nuances, all with that modulated voice.  

The rhythm syncs with a galloping horse.  GENIUS is an understatement! 

To me, this song is magnum-opus in his career.



A good movie.  Can't understand why it went unrecognized.  Having watched the movie, only qualm is that, from the penultimate scene to the climax, things seemed rushed in.  Lenin Bharathi worked as the assistant, apparently.

Suseendiran's third movie.  It is a mystery why several directors use him for just ONE movie and then abandon him, but will talk in length about him!

Listening to the prelude of this song on repeat (Idhazhil Amutham - Anbe Odi Vaa). In that 24 second portion (0:09-0:33 in the linked video), the backing solo seems simple but there is something about those bassline changes. Maybe someone more musically inclined can interpret what is going on with those chords.

Well spotted.  I am not able to access my keyboard just yet but when I can, I could break this down.  Basically, there seems to be a chord change going on.  Fairly routine by Raja standards.  It just leaps out at times in some songs to us. As I have said before, in Western he is operating at a level that, while not at the skill level of a great classical composer, is certainly in the upper echelons of experimental rock music.  And unlike those experimental artists, he was so adept at feeding it in a package that a large, predominantly South Indian audience with little exposure to Western music would still be able to assimilate.

You can hear jagged chords like that section in I Want To Tell You Something in a Santosh Narayanan or Amit Trivedi song but they would, again, be intentionally experimental 'out there' songs.  They wouldn't sneak it into a pathos solo picturized on a top hero in a semma-azhgai blade film.  That insidious kind of subversion that you don't even notice is Raja's speciality.  And it saved many blade films of the 80s like Anand or, my all time 'favourite', Idhaya Kovil.  Even in Kannirasi, the best part of the film is Ala Asathum. Like Raja said, indha padathukellam isai podavendurruke.

Thanks for the response, @crimson king. A lot of songs feature different main tunes and backing bassline chords. It was very interesting to see it in this small intro portion too. The main humming portion is a basic rise-and-fall but the bassline was doing a similar but complex rise-and-fall around it which was interesting.

"kuyilukkuppam" is on repeat today! What a song!

Usually high frequency strings is not a pleasant sound (IMO). Such sounds are deployed for movie situations where fights / tension or some crazy things happen and definitely not for pleasant feel.

In the interlude before second saraNam IR dispels this with his stylish concoction  Not only the sound is so pleasing to ears (with a parallel sehnAi track running), it does more to the listener - lifting one into air flying elated! Listen to the innovation at about 3:03 in this video, after the female chorus.

In a weird way, I like even the visuals (some typical BR stuff but the boy is excellent - full of talent - and the girl is not irritating either).

This was like an antidote for all the negativity.  

Somewhat Salil da-ish, IMO.  A refreshing coastal-folk style duet of KJY and IR.  Beautifully composed prelude and interludes.  The entire song reminds you of coastal area and its lifestyle.  The song itself is like a cold, yet pleasant wind that cruises through the shoreline.  A listener's delight.

From 3:08 to 3:21 in the second interlude the change is something very casual for IR but other composers have not been able to reach such standards

That is why I typed "etc." to count in all the major actresses who collaborated with IR.  IR-O is doing better than before, but still they need to focus on getting the rare songs, other languages-output and last but not least, the precious Background Scores.  Even the subscribers are less than 1M, given various reasons.  If they get their acts together, it could bump up the number for good.
