Both are absolute gems. One an amazing melody and another a searing song. Waiting for the third song now.

I think the melody song has a novel structure/meter (somebody educate us on what is really happening technically). Even though, very uncharacteristic of Raja we have a looped rhythm throughout, there are lots of layers in this song along with the innovative tune/meter. I think it will be a popular hit.

 Suresh, thanks for the review and samples. This sounds like a fantastic compilation. I seem to like the "simplest" songs in your book. Bombay Jayashree's arunagiri ramanan' though meant for group singing, showcases how a classical singer can add that touch. 'Arputham' is a nice guitar song but with the 'sabha' touch of violin following the singer. I am not sure Sriram works out well for devotional albums.

A question for people outside India - how did you buy the new Ramanamalai?  The website that Raaga Suresh links to does not do international shipping.  Itunes has only the old one listed.  I really want to buy this.  Any legal website to at least listen would also be helpful

I meant NT-Prabhu & Karthik-Gautham. However, then realized there are not many that he sang where Prabhu lip-sync-ed

Had to struggle and find out that a few lines of 'marudhANi arachchEnE' did have Prabhu lip-sync-ing for IR (rAjA kaiya vachchA).

In this search process (of course using Anbu sir's spreadsheet with a filter on IR in the singer column), one hit the fact that those 100's of songs that were BIG HITs with IR's voice didn't need big heroes to ride on

Most were title numbers, thathuva songs, even tracks - while others had entry level actors or those entered with his voice (like Murali or Karthik enRa Murali)

It didn't matter even if  it were Janagaraj on screen, IR's voice could simply hit it big with masses (of course with his terrific melody / orch).

Miga arumayana, manadhai varudum paattu. It's love on first listen for me, especially the portion in the very beginning of the charanam, where it pauses after the first line with a mesmerizing humming.
