Re: Raja's New Albums
IR & KH in problem territory again

Another news report alleges that IR gave a lot of freedom to the director (like, picking his own lyricist etc) because he is grandson of Late MP Adaikkalaraj

Another possible dud on its way to IR

Love and Love only single Am I in Love is out now. Can be downloaded for a bit shy of a dollar.

Track is nice and pleasant, not particularly amazing at first brush.

Re: Raja's New Albums
The new Kannada album for the movie 'Game' is now on youtube. Check it out:

CR,
Agree with you on the English song. Pleasant but not amazing. Check out this Kannada album. Has great rock music touches. This is the new and unabashed Raja. I have heard this for an hour now continuously.

Wow. Noticed the same exact scene and its score. Extremely weird and undeniably apt.sheepChase wrote:There is a terrific scene involving a parade of women in the second half and the score underscoring the scene is alarmingly, precisely unsettling. The rest of the score is largely functional with occasional flourishes.
http://www.tubechop.com/watch/7695497
And after a long long time perfect sync between the score and the film. NEPV/OAK/N etc. the score was too good for the film. In TT though even the songs were employed to great effect [wiz - yes if we somehow delete the ghastly images of GMK playing Sarangi]. Paaruruaaya is pretty much the only song I have been listening to ever since. The final theme also had some great(!) visuals.
What will Bala do without Raaja? Impossible, I say.

Ondu Mangina Bindu is a very sweet tune. Initially, I had listened to it once while multitasking and the song did not make any impression on me - I totally forgot about this album. Days later I was humming a tune and couldn't find out what it was and it turned out to be this song. It's an ear worm.

Ki & Ka - Foolishq
Here is the song by Raaja from Ki & Ka - 'Foolishq': https://songsbajaao.com/ki-ka-2016-2/
Thanks to MumbaiRamki for sharing the link. Song is very peppy.. like Chellam Konjum from Megha. Typical Raaja electronica in my opinion.

Gokul,
The second song is terrific. Planning to write a small post on it. The third song is freakout one though very brief.
Kamal,
I felt the Ki&Ka was a close relation of 'Piddly Si Batein'

Piddly had smoother flow and I kind of liked it instantly.
Not that much this one
Of all the original songs IR did for Balki, "mudhi mudhi" of pA was the catchiest IMHO!

Re: Raja's New Albums
Honestly, i too was little disappointed by the tune (arrangements are good but - groovy stuff). sounds very staid. The way mudhi mudhi (Paa) sounded bubbly in tune - (assuming the adventurous romance genre is similar) - that seems to be missing. I felt the tune lacks the 'aaha moment' that most raaja songs have (from melody perspective). Sounds blasphemous, but such a plain tune reminds me of hindi film song "soldier soldier" (i know it is blasphemous... what i mean is not similarity in tune, but just in the monotonity of the tune).app_engine wrote:Raaga_Suresh wrote:

Where Foolishq keeps me engaged is in its synth chords and all. But then, I doubt if it will keep me engaged for long time. because ultimately, the tune.. the one territory where Raaja has unique flavour and stamp... the tune..also matters a lot.

Re: Raja's New Albums
ki-kA up in the charts it seems
Foolishq
Just the first few lines of Foolishq is enough to make sure that this definitely has the potential to stay longer in your playlist. A typical Ilayaraja number that’s sensual and so reminiscent of the ’90s hits like Bharo Maang Meri Bharo. Shreya Ghoshal, who can never go wrong in any song, and Armaan Mallik amps up the proceedings and turns the song into a very sensuous encounter. Expect Arjun and Kareena to steam it up on screen!

Re: Raja's New Albums
ki & kA
R. Balki’s movies aren’t usually known for their music, as Cheeni Kum and Paa had one gem of a song, but Ki & Ka is the exception because it’s quite a funky album.
...
...
Ilayaraja tackles Foolishq, a minimalist love song that’s actually quite bland and doesn’t feel up to scratch. With chunky guitar riffs and lilting flute melody throughout, the orchestration works but it ends rather quickly and anticlimactically. Shreya Ghosal and Armaan Mallik have a cool chemistry together but it doesn’t save the track.

Re: Raja's New Albums
Don't know how I've missed this and the other chechi sung song from the film. Proper post-modern compositions. The KSC song is almost like a superior precursor to Music Puyol's Sevvaanam Chinna Pen from Pavithra.Wizzy wrote:got the CDs , been listening to awesomeness that is 'Poyvaru',kameshratnam wrote:https://i.servimg.com/u/f84/19/23/90/80/hits_o10.jpg

Re: Raja's New Albums
Going by the reviews, it seems Foolishq is the only thing (and maybe IR's BGM which wasn't mentioned) redeeming Ki and Ka. That in itself is not surprising but with Bala/Balki all loyalists flopping left, right and centre, what happens to future assignments is my concern.

Re: Raja's New Albums
Listening to the other songs, they are typical generic present day Bolly tracks. There's no point in pairing a Raja track with a soundtrack of Meet Bros and Mithoon. The jazz cool of Foolishq has absolutely nothing in common with the upbeat Punjabi rap of Munda/High Heels. Either Balki should commit the entire soundtrack to IR or, if that is not 'viable', just go with other composers. Although...Amit Trivedi would be a better option even then than Meet Bros. Anyway, slap bass of Foolishq is just *slurrrp*, like a polished retread of Kadhal Needhana.

Re: Raja's New Albums
I am little excited about this upcoming film Amma Kanukku.
The hindi version of the film - nil battey sannata - has been getting reviews (at film festivals?) as per some tweets. The movie is yet to release. The Hindi version soundtrack is interesting.
I see this tweet by musician/vocalist Nandini Srikar - https://twitter.com/NandiniSrikar/status/721551914626871297
This is one combination I had been waiting for because I liked some of her songs (in Ra.One, Fitoor etc.). She already sang one awesome song - Aahaa Kaadhal - in a tamil film for Yuvanshankar Raaja.
And come to think of it, how does Raaja treat such films (bilinguals where the composer is different in another language)? Just curious. While i am sure he might be adding his own touch to the demands of the director and also will like to localize it as per the context of the film... but at a generic level... i am just wondering if he listens to the other composer's work? Like in this case, do you think he listened to the Hindi soundtrack (in which, Nandini Srikar sang a song)? Apart from the script/director's taste and vision, do you think he also factors in 'what the other composer did', just to get a sense of the sound, textures etc?
