Raaja composed Bharatanatyam dance drama produced by Sudharani Ragupathi's disciple and dancer, Krithika Subramanian, and themed on Lord Shiva (from Thiruvasagam, Thevaram, Nandanar Charitham and Kumarasambhavam). Release date will be announced in due time I guess:

coming to the point, this song's 2nd lude is sort of Tamil Rap but more authentic, so we can say like Raja did a rap bit but still not sounding like authentic rap, so we can say its Rap with his own trademark, since he always infuses his ideas on a genre. Now, can we say this is the 1st Rap song? since University movie came in 2002?

Vanithamani's prelude of Kanne, kattikkava? ottikkava? imo is the first time he ever internalized rap and gave some Raaja rap all the way back in 1986. And then, there's Iniya Gaanam from Paattu Paadava where he mocks a rap with a rap (meta ya appave) in 1995. And of course there was Petta Rap from Kadhalan in 1994.

There is one in telugu that he composed back in 1991. Particularly the early parts of charanams..

Ilaiyaraaja loves to innovate with rhythm as is evident in his songs. Bharatanatyam offers a lot of scope for this. So what was new in this production? “In the song, ‘Pradeepta Rathnajowla,’ I have set a different talakattu.” He pauses, and taking a cue, Krithika explains, “It is a mix of sankirnam (nine beats) and misram (seven beats). It is a new concept for a dancer to interpret. Choreographing for this was pretty tough as we had to set new jatis. It opened up new dimensions for us.” Ilaiyaraaja adds that they sum up to 16 beats.

So I watched Swappnam. Saw Raaja, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and basically, one major wishlist from my bucketlist has been ticked off  The music was outstanding. There were 39 tracks in all. He'd also arranged a few popular Carnatic songs with extremely creative rhythm patterns. And some of his compositions blew me off. Dance I had mixed feelings. Some places, the ambiance they created was superb, some places felt flat. CD has 10 tracks of which one devotional (Ayye Metha Kadinam) is a rearranged version of a popular tune (he's maintained the tune and played around with the rhythm). One of them is Raaja's voiceover for 30 secs. Remaining 8 songs are original, unbridled genius IMO. Lesser version of TiS (less of WCM here) but nevertheless, only Raaja fossible and music for the CD is worth every penny of yours.

Watch out for:

Pradeeptha Rathnojwala,

Bhajeham,

Vishweshwara Darshan,

Kathar Kuzhalaada (playful genius but will wait for you folks to listen fully ), and

Voice Symphony in Koovina Poonkuyil.

What also surprised me was how precisely Pt. Shivkumar Sharma got our man's music. He said composition techniques can be learnt, music can be learnt but Raaja was a true composer, who could compose without any instruments and his quality and quantity mark him out, adding he is a channel of the almighty and gives us a higher form of music. Just this much, but so perfectly summarized his music. Our man spoke and agreeing with Pandit, said his music is a manifestation of what God desires.

Mythri movie songs are now available in YouTube for listening.. Has some soothing melodies, give it a try too amidst the busy listening of Shamitabh..

Bhava song is winmax. The tune is unpredictable yet organic. The piano chords are excellent. Taken. Aakasha Meluntu is decent. Chandranenu Chenda is good. Very good. Remaining ottala.

I was expecting Raja's voice also in the, Bhavatharani song , "idhu yavu lokavo", as they have mentioned his name in singers list. But it is not the case, may be they mentioned it as surname..

Mythri - the bass line in 'idhu yaavu lokavo' is really awesome, especially for a raja baseline fan like me.. The tune of chandranenu is also very much engaging, has the raja signature firmly.. Especially the place where Pallavi ends, Chandr nene.... -lovely Raja

Started listening to Mythri after a break from Shamitabh. Getting addicted to Chandranenu Chanda which is my pick of the album, love everything about this song. It's been looping through for a while now.

Except the first song all the other songs in the album are eminently listenable.
The recording/mix sounds very ordinary , I would believe the budget has something to do with it.
Tune wise, flow wise and idea wise the remaining four songs sound melodious and in familiar territory.
Finally Raaja agrees to autotune Bhava's voice. She sounds more rounded compared to other albums.
The pick of the album must be Kailash Kher's song. That guy is awesome and Raaja gives him some 
helluva contours to pick and follow in this one. Will listen more and add more..
