rAsA sang idhayam oru kOvil on Karur stage

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 1
Usha, thanks for the links to the BBC program earlier. It was a very good summary of IR's style. I have not seen an equivalent succinct article/analyses on IR's style. Orchestration - vaadhyangaLin orunginaippu - nice tamil. He talked senthoorappooVe's folk tune+ WCM orchestration, varali raagam and also about the choral arrangements in dEvar magan, a good sample of the whole spectrum.Usha wrote:Thank u Jaiganesh.......

Come on guys - no comments on this link I posted earlier at all??
http://www.thehindu.com/features/cinema/the-perfect-arrangement/article4564366.ece
Really illustrates the huge difference between the methodologies of IR and Rahman and the later generation of "composers".

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 1
Thanks Jai for the link. அன்பால எல்லாரையும் கட்டிபோட்டுட்டார். Overwhelmed by the crowd, their respect and regards to Maestro, especially down south. Can't believe my ears and eyes how Maestro starts composing, starting directly with lyrics. I was totally melted hearing that devotional song. He composes and sings casually just like we talk. What a gift this man has got! No one can ever imagine what he has done. This is true spontaneity (cha! even spontaneity'la kooda 'true' nu pOdavEndiyirukku, so ashamed). Most of all, that smile and glittering eyes clearly tells how pure that man is. When Snehan highlighted how Maestro was not much interested in financial aspect, rather more interested in doing music, I was so moved. Once in a lifetime moment. Those who witnessed this event live are so lucky. Once in a lifetime moment, priceless!

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 1
This is what I have been hinting every time and now it has become public. The saddest part is these music directors call themselves 'composers'. If that word is alive, it would have committed suicide. Most of them shamelessly steal others brain and work to get the music out of them. Just for the name sake they credit the musicians for playing (only, till now these music producers are not even in picture as they are paid heavily to keep mum), but keep the composer/music director tag intact for themselves, thereby fooling themselves, musicians, people and art. Who cares, that's the norm of film music nowadays.
On top of it, they try to equate, compare and ridicule pure music which Maestro really composes on his own (spontaneously) without anyone's help or interaction. Even this single man's versatility cannot be even matched or dreamt by all these 1000 men put together who produces the 'patch-work' music, as it has already lost its soul. But, this impossibly humane wonder suffers an all time low, while the stolen stuff gets a huge advantage. This the best meaning for the word 'KALIYUGAM'.

Can anyone please tell me this song composed by Maestro? On Thursday, Ilayaraja realised the late violinist had composed a keerthana in the ragavarthini raga, the inspiration for which came from his own composition on goddess Meenakshi of Madurai.

Ayushmann certainly is as romantic in real life as we have seen him on screen. Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna and Ae Zindagi Gale Le are two of Ayushmann's favourite songs. He also loves SD Burman and Ilayaraja songs.

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 1
Look how ToI reports the Lalgudi book release
And compare it to The Hindu report
Ilayaraja spoke of how Jayaraman's children — vocalists G J R Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi, both present on the occasion — performed chamber concerts at his residence during Navratri. "At one concert, one of my tunes in raga varthini was performed. Jayaraman sir was so inspired that he also composed a tune using the same raga," said Ilayaraja.
He made the discovery while releasing a biography on the violinist — An Incurable Romantic, The Musical Journey of Lalgudi Jayaraman. Ilayaraja said, long ago, he had sung his keerthana — manamurugi unnai — for the violin maestro during Navrathri celebrations at his house. “He meticulously listened to every swaram of the song and appreciated my efforts. Today, I am proud to know that my song had inspired him. But I am not qualified to speak of his greatness,” said Ilayaraja.
Ilayaraja said the violin exponent’s keerthanas and thillanas embodied pure feelings that could not be explained in words, proving time and again that works of music could not be claimed by anyone as intellectual property.

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 1
A little late comment on Arr's interview and indirect comments on IR.
I agree to that Vadivelu clip/reaction , surely ARR has semmaya vaangirukaar (just as singer Srinivas;) )from IR when he was learning as a kid. He was no expert then (nor even now) on most things that IR does, but looks like he is still hurt. That ego+jealousy within is making him comment now this way (unnecessarily)..as he got covered by the humility shield by media/fans earlier (from 92). Frankly, he should've rejected Mozart of Madras pattam when media started using it as he did nothing great with violins/WCM by then, but he was glad to play along! Wouldn't they know Mozart better? so much for being humble!
I am of the opinion that there are some (like ARR) who are shockingly surprised looking at IR going strong and touching (new) creative heights as he is now, even after 20 years of 92. This is unexpected for them..as there are still some film makers who make films with IR as their strength.
Srinivas is a failure as a singer, and his jealousy shows in his tweets/comments (as IR saw Srini's limitations clearly....no bit-bit-wise recording you see )
It is great to see IR being frank and honest all along without depending on any of the top directors/producers or pleasing them for favors (feel the pride of "every note is mine" during Hey Ram interview, makes even more sense now with other MDs agreeing to sharing credit on CDs and inside studios ).
As he said in RRCP song composing, "koottani, punnaakku onnum illai, naama/namba eppovum thanidhaan. Mela avar irukaar, keezhe naama/namba irukom" (of sorts, actually comparing with maNNu). Living the Singham single-aathaan varum. Thassaal your honour!

Re: Anything about IR found on the net - Vol 1
Yes..just somewhat better than the way they do after 50 movies
And regarding the comment during the KJY felicitation, I will give ARR the benefit of doubt..as KJY did give life to some ordinary songs during 70s/80s (like hero Mohan Babu's movies used to have one main song by KJY etc.).
Just in case any co-MDs like ARR (or Directors like BR/MR) mean something like that about IR, then think of their ability..they gave like what..5 KJY hits in 10yrs? IR gave KJY/SPB/PS/SJ/MV/KSChitra/Mano great songs, besides other singers like UR, in album-after-album .
One reason I strongly feel SPB/KJY were sidelined and new (in)capable singers promoted from 92 for variety was because no composer, except IR, had (and has) the ability to give songs that are worthy of SPB/KJY. Imagine ARR or any other co-MD having SPB/KJY/PS/SJ/KSC/MV and composing 6 songs in an album....chippu chippaaaa varudhu
So, only IR can compose songs (in quality and quantity) that are worthy of KJY/SPB. It is for other co-MDs (like ARR and later MDs who share credit with others) that KJY/SPB sang their ordinary songs/tunes and gave life/hits to them.
