app_engine & Usha, True.  SPB is realizing things are not materializing without him singing IR songs.  Hence, this decision!  Also, a Lakshman-Sruthi concert in USA, with SPB, is coming up in March next year !  

But the HIGHLIGHT in that news is "He said the case involves his son's company and Ilayaraja and not him."

Usha, Connecticut concert la paadinathai paarunga!  100% perfect pronunciation. In Canada concert, at least, the pallavi is a bit off in pronunciation.  I was there  , she was amazing. The NUANCES were WOW!     I felt like being in the Prasad studio, that orchestration!!!  My first time, at an IR concert. My 2nd concert attendance overall, in my life. She has sung Marathi songs for IR previously and some Tamil songs.  Check out her song "Thedi thedi" in 60 Vayadhu Maaniram movie (latest).  I met her the next day at the meet & greet. I complimented her on her singing. She was watching all that IR was talking for an hour.  She was joking she did not understand anything he said!

A rose by any name would smell as sweet. Likewise, Ananda ragam by any singer, be it UR or Shreya or Vibhavari is  a predestined  classic!

Why madam? Merku thodarchi malai & 60 vayadhu maaniram songs ungalukku pidikkalayaa?  Agreed that rich orchestration of Ananda Ragam et al....is missing nowadays. But ippo vara songs edhuvum manasil nikka maattengudhe. Whereas, I still remember NEPV songs or the BGM from OAK & Kutrame Thandanai. 

This song (Ananda raagam) is undoubtedly evergreen classic, no doubt!  Shreya did not sing this as good as Vibhavari, madam. 

UR > Vibhavari > Shreya / Sadhana Sargam - for this song. I don't know if Chitra has rendered it.

hi BC, I have not yet listened to these latest IR albums. Well, the greedy fan inside me always craves for something superlative from Raja. Regarding recent outings like NEPV or Megha,oAK, you are right. Even in our forum, you might have observed the overwhelming enthu for those albums.Way back then, in film after film Raja was pampering us with super rich dose of orchestration with ensemble of real instruments. Its no surprise that now we find it difficult to adjust to Raja's minimalistic  lean diet.

Yes, I agree. NEPV, OAK, Kutrame Thandanai, Thaarai Thappattai etc. - all had superb background score. I think you are not following "Contemporary" music. If you do, you will appreciate those movies mentioned. Also, the songs of NEPV, MTM & 60 Vayadhu Maaniram are good too.  IMHO, they were under-appreciated. I consider them gems that got lost in the current "cool" cacophony.

Thanks for the heads up about 60 Vayadhu Maaniram! Listening now. Thedi Thedi was instant love as soon as those chords came in.  But I was wondering how Benny Dayal would fare (I have heard him sing Chura Liya like the worst of Karaoke night for a radio station) and he didn't disappoint (sic)!  Yappa, kolaveri.  Perfect substitute for ghona ghona U1.

Naalum Naalum is like a contemporary update of Kadhal Oviyam. But more kolaveri from Monali Thakur.  She's a good singer but struggles with Tamil pronunciation here. Enna pa, Shreyaoda sandai ya.  Vandam indha Vibhavari/Monali, just get Shreya.  Or maybe she was quoting higher rate?
