Lost - First 3 seasons were good but messed it up in the last 3 seasons. Too many loose ends and too much suspension of disbelief spoil what begins as a promising series.

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
been binging on Brit Shows, some reccos
Happy Valley- well rounded show with solid setting and character development, simbly outstanding BBC drama
Broadchurch - been meaning to watch it, haven't seen well knitted show like this in a long time,
delikate/intriguing plot been handled with great aplomb, David Tennant's show all the way, he also stars
in US version with Anna Gunn
Line of Duty- reminded me of 'The Shield', straightforward copper show If S1 ending was annoying as hell S2 ending was simply shortchanging
the viewers though highly recommended for being a strong drama/amazing twists and turns in the plot.

Do I feel like revisiting any Nolan movie? Oh good god, no.
If we could get through some crucial, albeit boringly, parts, Prestige. TDK for Heath Ledger. not much else.

Broadchurch is great. Heard Rampling is in. My dream is to watch Rampling and Redgrave in a TV detective/crime series (preferably Colombo style than whodunnit) before they wind up in the grave.

pliss to watch an episode of US version so you will appreciate Broadchurch a tad. Has there been any other US telly version other than
The Office/HoC/Veep which were least at par with its UK cousins? looks like they haven't even spared Revenants http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230780/
Netflix 2015 lineup http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2015/01/06/netflix-2015-lineup/21308665/
interesting shows
-tie with Marvel for 4 shows starting with 'Daredevil
-Sense8 with Wachowskis
-Robert Carlock/Tina fey show
add 'House of Cards'/The Fall and Marco Polo to the list, a cracking lineup indeed

Konjam self plugging. Could be mildly nunippul, but space constraints kulla this much only was possible. Do read

Good effort Munk, is this gonna be a series? If you want to dig deep check out 'Shoah' which is a 5hr marathon on all things and top it with 'Night and fog', you can always count on French for their autobiographical narrative

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
Thanks Wizz. Not a series but got invited for a guest post by a sub-editor friend there. Yeah could've expanded more with Shoah, Hitchcok's 'Night Will Fall' but space constraints based limitations. The 800 words I gave itself was condensed to 700 in this post. Ideally, had more info on Great Escape's settings based on a real event in a prisoner-of-war camp in Zagan, Poland. Would have liked to quote Joseph Campbell's Hero's paradigm after the character arc, a la Mysskin but edam paththala ellAthukkum.Wizzy wrote:Good effort Munk, is this gonna be a series? CK, no. Not even to letters to the editor first time based.

Better Call Saul
EP-1
Those lovely BB-esque flashforwards at the start must have got everyone right into the show.
Was tad worried given Saul's OTP acts might ruin this series but the single shot of that dented trash can
allayed
any such fears. It has some of BB hooks on the humour front and movie-like large canvas cinematography but yam not yet sold on using characters from BB as props.
guess even writers are in bit of dilemma, this line sorta of summarizes theirs/show's plight
though Tuca/Mike/Gus at varying degrees is a mouthwatering prospect as a fan service.

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
Steven Knight's Locke - masterclass on screenwriting, movie in 90mins covers Tom Hardy's travel from Birmingham to London,
from the start the movie gets you right into the Tom Hardy character and his issues/motivations all in a single setting and never bores you in its entirety of its duration. though his charater arcs/line of work metas gets nosy at times(litreally) but that can forsaked for his brillant movie making.
peeps looking for closure/subham ending, stay away..movie is up on Netflix UK/IRL

Three episodes down and am I hooked or what. Ridiculously good so far. Saying because I thought the show woudnt be anywhere near BB.Wizzy wrote:Better Call Saul

And yeah the POV shots / lighting are so reminiscent of BB.
Jimmy --> Saul has a lot more potential than Walt --> Heisenberg.
And I almost cried when Mike said I changed my mind in EP3. He is *into* it as well now.
But to think I have to wait 5 odd fekking years to see it all is a little offputting

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.

Jimmy's character does come across as lot more complicated than WW with lot many shades, being a sleazy lawyer/very good at hustling peeps
but it gets weird at times when he wants to do the right thing as seen in 'desert court' with Tuco pleading for the skaters
or warning off Kettlemans.
cut backs to 80s Slippin’ Jimmy are comical, may be they did for just for 'S’all good man' pun.
earlier Mike/Jimmy team up to bump off Kettlemans the better it is for the show, just can't stand them.
the pacing goes haywire whenever they get a screentime
guess Jimmy's bro Chuck will be Skylar in this show, constant nag for Jimmy
and us the viewers but the space blanket scene was  would be fun if Chuck's moral compass wavers in future episodes//
wish they dig into Mike's backstory from being a beat cop to parking lot attendant, may be there are already planning
a spinoff series on Mike.
P.S did anyone notice all the episode titles until now ended with 'o', either there is some ulkuthu or the
writers just being lazy.

E4 was meh.
Don't like the flashback portions. Still I am a yeng Saul is 1. Unfunny 2. Awkward.
Also find Chuck annoying.

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
Sense8
easily the the most accessible of Wachowskis's works, played it to their strength of world building exercise,
though went a bit overboard with 8 worlds/clusters which is a daunting to keep track given many converge/diverge at any point of time and some of the clusters(Mumbai/Chicago) are stereotyped to the core.
bit of a slow burner to start but when the characters/sensates settle in and after you get conditioned with Wachowskis's self-indulgence exercises
then it is fun ride given their lofty thematic goals and the way they go about achieving it,
boy they even give a cluster fuck a whole anew meaning*
if we look aside some corny/cheesy dialogues very rarely do we get show based wholly on characters development to drive it forward.
By ep5 some would even guess the mystery part of these sensates in the clusters but again 'that' mystery have little bearing on how
much you enjoy the show which is extraordinary given the show's pitch is sci-fi.
Only gripe are the protagonist(s) of the show (Will/Riley) who get more screenspace but have the weakest plot whilst
Sun/Capheus/Wolfgang/Lito have the most engaging ones and Tori's plot is very pungent, simply Wachowskis :lookatme:
less said about Kala(Indian)the better(doesn't West get bored of depicting a Indian girl/arranged marriage dilemma).
Finale(last 3 eps in fact) more or less ups the masala quotient/playing to the gallery with vehicular action/Taekyun/gun fights.
fans of shows like 'Lost' might not dig this show given its 'raw' nature until then
props to Netflix for green lighting the show for the very same reason, Wachowskis can safely settle in telly given this canvas
of freedom.
P.S* series is pretty graphic(NC-17/Max after Dark level category) and that cluster fuck bit is literal, absolutely not safe for living room viewing on a big flat tv

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
The Guest- been a long time since we got a satire on horror/thriller genre with all its tropes
thrown at you one after the other, full of John Carpenter's imprints and a kick-ass electronica OST to boot.
Matthew from 'Downtown Abbey' plays an uber cool version of 'Malvo' in the movie and pretty much nails it.
True Detective- 2 eps done, Vince Vaughn is a terrible cast and just horrendous writing compared to S1,
Marty and Rust sucked you right in after their small talk in the car and compare that to highway shots cutting in the conversation here which were mostly meh.
till now show is utterly aimless and in dire need of propulsion.

Re: Peter thread - World music, movies, Television etc.
^GoT 2 seasons were god tier telly, now it mostly panders to teenyboppers with tropes like bdsm.
you should check out 'The Borgias', comes with high reps from original Peter mama
Netflix has bagged 34 Emmy nominations really have a long way from Lillyhammer days of orignals.
reviewing couple of their shows which I ended up binging recently
Daredevil- never been a fan of this genre but it got me hooked just with its title sequence
of blind folded Lady Justice with the scales superimposed in the dark bg of hell's kitchen/Church/archangel,
which was so Mysskinsque. throw in a bunch of ninja fighters and with entire series shot predominantly @ night really accentuates that feeling.
The suit in the end was a bit of letdown but antagonist in Fisk(Full Metal Jacket pugazh D'Onofrio) runs the show.
looking forward to next set of Marvels releases Jessica Jones and Luke Cage though they got a tough task to scale the peaks of this show.
Bloodline- from the creators of 'Damages' so be forewarned about flashbacks/flashforwards to move the trolly forward
had to said more than a bit of slowburn, skeletons in the closet of a happy family only for a unwanted/long
lost family member to fuck things up. Danny;s is the most fucked character written in recent times,
things he does/says makes you scorn. doono how they gonna conjure up S2 given things were tied up neatly
couple of years from now can see Netflix becoming self reliant wrt serious drama and the cable/network slanting more towards stand-up-comedy/mockumentry/after dark shows. sample this screen from their forthcoming show on Pablo, enna oru imaging

I watch about 100 hours of moving images per month, which is at least 30 films.
I see all the European and American television series. I like Borgia, Marco Polo, Peaky Blinders, Breaking Bad, Killing. I watch a lot of documentaries because they give me better ideas than films. I don’t attend film festivals these days.

marathoning 'Thick of it' again, whtya brilliant show, amazing acting talent on display from Peter Capaldi to Roger Allam.
though criminally wasted @ BBC4, could have got many eyeballs on BBC2.
in hindsight Paul Higgins(Jamie) should have gotten much more of a screentime given only he could tame Malcolm Tucker
no wonder Malcolm is wary of him, Scotts swearing really does have a nice rhythm to it
lengendary ipod rant @ 1:55
fuckity bye and more, swearing as an art form, series just nailed it.

^most depressing movie seen recently, completly drains you, imagine Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now having a baby..
it will end up something like this. movie suffers from pacing issues(Fukunaga had to content with many cast members being arrested midway so the script had to changed @ location)
Fukunaga is actually much better cinematographer than a director, movie got all his agmark tracking shots from TD
just wished he had a competent writer to do induce some drama. on the actors, kid Agu and mute Striker show all the way,
even outshining the Commandant Idris(Idris is a riot in the movie)
movie images haunts..some jaw dropping frames from the movie.
