The next song is from a KB movie with Jaishankar and Ravichandran, nAngu suvarkaL.

The movie is available on youtube and the credits are clearly available

Music MSV with two assistants listed (Govardhanam and Joseph Krishna).

And lyrics by kavingar with PA udhavi. Straight forward and simple data

The song is so-so (one comment in youtube claims this one is a kalaichchelvam, like oru malligai mottu, inspired from some indhi song - those who know the indhi song please confirm).

This is a very rare one (actually all songs in this movie are never-before-heard for me).

The movie's name itself is hitherto unheard : dheivam pEsumA (AVM Rajan as hero, so no surprise in this being unknown).

Shankar-Ganesh are credited as MD's. In addition, they have two assistants : Venkatesh & Das Daniel.

Despite all these getting credits on the titles, not a single song is known to general public in TN, with an ardent radio follower like me as a sample

I'm still finding songs in 1971 (i.e. beyond what we've seen so far and also exhausting whatever were there in the Thenraja TFMpage list)

This one was a popular number in our school - all the time playing during anniversary and such functions, even having dance programs featuring this song during such school functions

The song has Sivakumar on-screen, lip-syncing for SPB

It was an APN movie with Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan doing the music.

If not for Saravanan sir's dhool page, I couldn't have figured out the lyricist at all!

The most popular song from the album is the Rathi- Manmathan duet ‘anangan angajan’ written by K.D. Santhanam and sung by SPB & L.R. Eswari. KV based the tune on Bhimplaas, and set the notes to a unique beat. However, the unfazed K.D. Santhanam came out spontaneously with the line ‘anangan angajan anban vasanthan manmanthan endRum vaNangum en uyir mannava…’. The song commences with a sonorous narration by A.P. Nagarajan. The movie version of the song has an extended postlude, which the audio clip below does not have.

From the 1971 movie soodhAttam that had the phenomenal hit song "விளக்கேற்றி வைக்கிறேன் விடிய விடிய எரியட்டும்"
(Love that PS classic! Like I posted several times before, our school had an instrumental disc that featured film songs and this was one of them besides kAdhOdu dhAn - the main melody perhaps got played in accordian and was so sweet. Since it mentioned MSV's name I thought for many years - i.e. until I came to tfmpage - that the veLLi vizhA song too was by MSV  For the uninitiated, kAdhOdu dhAn nAn pEsuvEn is by V Kumar)

It goes without saying that Kavingar had PA as "udhavi" and KVM had Pugazhendhi as udhavi in the titles, which was typical for this time period.

I definitely remember hearing this waltz number on radio those days.

While youtube has this and some other songs from this movie, the movie itself (or its titles) could not be found on the web. So, the credits for MD / lyricist cannot be 100% authenticated. Some websites say MSV but they can often make mistakes, so this is at best a calculated guess at this time. If more information is available in course of time, I'll post in this thread

Rajini Ramachandran has confirmed on twitter that the lyricist of 'veLLi muththukkaL nadamAdum veLLam' is Kannadasan only.

He wasn't sure about the MD; one of the old tfmpage threads on MSV-TKR has our Saravanan sir's post confirming the MD as MSV.

So, my guess seems to be good

Now, there are no other SPB number from that movie (most songs have LRE).

One of the sites that I was using liberally in this exercise - www.inbaminge.com - is now gone

Another casualty, like musicalaya.net , that could have served as a very useful tool in such 70's or older exercises

The CHO film Mohamed Bin Thuglak has SPB's name in the titles.

It is a 1971 movie and I don't know any song by SPB. Neither I can easily locate it on the web

The popular songs were AllAh AllAh, sung by MSV and the pAvalar pAdiya pudhumaippeNNai by TMS.

There's a 'indhirAthi dEvargaL koodi' that has some "long live thuglak" portion in western format that may have SPB. However, I am not sure.

Don't know if they chose to add SPB in the titles because he sang the equivalent of the TMS song in the movie's Telugu version (youtube available for this).

I remember watching the film on Raj TV once and there is a song SPB sings. In fact, he appears as a singer in the song and sings it (a la Kannadasan in Oru Koppaiyile, Paramasivan Kazhuthil). Situation is a party at home and he sings a jolly song. Don't remember song or the tune. But positively remember SPB in it.

There are some peculiar things seen on the movie titles :
 - The movie name itself has "alEk Anand" within brackets, makes one think if the movie was a remake of such a Hindi movie
 - V Kumar gets a title in "இசை மாமணி" - so, the humility police can take a note of that
 - The singers don't deserve to get a separate slide for themselves  And neither does the lyricist Vaali  Both these groups got bundled together in    a single slide. This should also make the "credit giving" ghOshti wake up!

Such tamAshA apart, the song is a nice one. Pretty regular on radio those days and I would not hesitate to call this a household hit!

SPB sings the song with PS humming. I've heard this on radio a few times those days - pretty unimpressive.

The MD's credited are Shyam-Philips. There is a nice article on Shyam by Saravanan sir in dhool.com : http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/647.html

Since the Philips guy is unknown to Saravanan sir himself, it will be futile for me to look for his background on the web. OTOH, Shyam had composed later on many songs that I've liked (including my most fav "vaishAka sandhyE" of nAdOdikkAtRu in Malayalam).  This song, however, is nothing much to write about.

This song used to be my school-days' favorite, mainly for all those "mandhap paththara mArap paththara" kind of ARR-HJ-ish kacha-muchA sounds

Makes one understand why such songs click with juvenile crowds nowadays. (I cannot stand this poonthamalliyilE song now  Had I listened to this today for the first time, I would have been irate and dismissed it as "atrocious")

Anyways, this was a regular on radio those days and Manorama was the main star. SPB sounded like ALR or Saibaba. For documentation, let me provide the pAdal varigaL here (this post is possibly the only place where one can find these lines on the web  )...

aiyO pavam that Telugu MD whose name most of us have never even heard before - even though none who lived in 70's could have missed this fun song that was frequently on radio. 
(One of those early big hits for SPB, establishing him as a "youththu favorite" in 70's).

Fortunately, we have the movie titles that help us identify who did this song.


The song is very similar in format to the Ceylon Manohar "poppisai pAdalgaL" that had regular air time on IOKS - such as the funny

Jaishankar romances with Lakshmi on screen. SPB sings only in the last 1/3 portion of the song.

Those who heard radio in the 70's couldn't have missed a child song that starts as " பூப்பூவாப் பறந்து போகும் பட்டுப்பூச்சி அக்கா 
நீ பளபளன்னு போட்டிருப்பது யாரு கொடுத்த சொக்கா ". 

Most would have felt bad for the child when it sings towards the end "இந்தப்பாப்பாவுக்குப் பசியெடுக்குது பழம் பறிச்சுப்போடு". The song starts as a fun song but can make one's heart heavy if they start connecting the name of the movie (திக்குத்தெரியாத காட்டில்) to the plight of a child that sings that song.

Joseph Krishna is credited as asst to MSV for this movie. Jayalalitha and Muthuraman are listed as the leads.

However, this song does not have either of them but a bunch of comedians who travel in a vehicle with a banner "வருத்தமில்லா வாலிபர் சங்கம் " (similar name was used for Vadivel comedy sometime back and a recent movie).

The song also has the popular phrase "வனஜா கிரிஜா" with which a movie was made in 90's. Even during 70's, this combo was quite frequently used (one of my relatives named his two daughters so, for e.g.).
