Btw, also saw Hariharan massacring raasaaththi onna by doing what he does worst - singing his own notes and making abrupt pauses at totally irrelevant places. I don't feel all that bad now. Raasa somehow has got a liking for this guy and gives him a free hand at least on live shows.

Let me also register the very common emotion now - that I am so so glad to see B(K), KV, V_S, Nerd, Wiz kid, app_eng, skr et al here. I have been missing you all too.

Like I mentioned before, not planning to drive to Toronto - even though I can get there in just 3 hours or even less.

Reason? Border crossing / Canada visa / US visa re-stamping etc.

Also, one of my co-worker's friends (who is a H1B like me) went to Toronto for re-stamping with family. Family's H4 visas got stamped at Toronto but they sent the H1 guy alone to Chennai (Earlier I got my visa restamped at Toronto without any problem, but everything has changed in the last 4 years).

So, not taking any such unnecessary risk - especially with my 19 yr old in his 3rd year of Bachelor's...

While the bay area concert doesn't have any visa issues, it's simply too far

(I read "there" that people like rajkumarc, baroque have already booked their seats for the Bay area concert)

Any details on how is the "sales" for Toronto concert?

Is it brisk or does the Seeman-group's campaign have a big effect? I browsed some threads in the yAzh website and there seems to be mixed feelings among the Srilankan Thamizh diaspora. (BTW, majority of Toronto ThamizharkaL speak ilangaiththamizh )

I too don't have plans to attend either of the concert. Same issues as app stated. :sad: I know it will be a terrible miss.

Yes , there are some issues with Seeman & Co, but the organisers are actually trying their best to ensure that it goes smooth..
I believe they managed to convince Bharathi Raja regarding the show and efforts are on in ensuring that the show doesnt get disturbed.

My ill luck continues with Raaja concerts. Missed both the Chennai concerts by a whisker. And this time due to unavoidable personal reasons. I so wanted to go to the bay area one. Sikkago/NYC na pOyiruppEn..

I just got a call from IlayaThalam saying ive been selected to witness the rehearsal for the Canada Concert this Sat at Prasad Studios..
They even gave me the option of choosing morn or a'noon time

BTW, I had a doubt - the IR youtubes at Canada showed him very clearly stating that ONLY THAMIZH songs are planned for the Toronto concert.

OTOH, there was this iLayathaLam video showing KJY rehearsing 'lalitha priya kamalam' (Telungu original of 'idhazhil kadhai ezhudhum nEramidhu'). Some poster in the forum even mentioned that it was for Toronto concert

Is that for the Bay Area (which is a JV of Telungu & Thamizh groups)?

Or, are there "adjustments" for Toronto to include other lang?

Yes , its an only Tamil songs concert (95%) , but there will be say 2-3 songs which are non tamizh such as Lalitha Priya , Thumbi Vaa etc..
The first song after Janani Janani is going to be Manidha Manidha from Kann Sivanthal Mann Sivakkum sung by Yesudass as its supposed to be a hugely favourite song among the Srilankan Tamizhs.

Saw the Vijay TV munnOttam. It was amusing to see those Raaja classics remixed by R&B hiphop rap youth group. I seriously hope they don't invite Prasanna-Sneha, Vivek, Parthiban on stage.

"Sober singer (vijaytv) has this round going on for the last two days called 'strings melody' - a bunch of 6-8 violins, an acoustic guitar and a bass. All contestants have been singing (quite poorly) IR songs so far. While all this might seem too beautiful and romantic, the horror and unintentional comedy has to be seen to be understood! A myriad of ROFLMAX stuff! A bloody slaughter of the man's intricately woven orchestration! Firstly they've not been playing the original notes but have been doing some kinda ad-lib stuff, which to me reeks of lack of dedication to the art (you could play whatever crap you want, but play the original properly once at least). And it doesn't just stop there, the violins are playing such high quality crap that can put even SAR violins to shame! (the "ohhmygoddhowbyooodiful" comments they get from the 'judges' - )

One thing that I've always fantasized about is the bass guitar getting a special spotlight during Raaja concerts. Alas, it has never been the case so far. Take for example even one of the rehearsal videos here featuring poovE sempoovE. The bass lines in the 2nd interlude are #HisDeadlinessSatanRaaja but they don't, not even for a moment, show the bassie on the screen.

skr, when you're there at the rehearsal, can you try bringing up this point? Tell them there's a whole bunch of us who are crazy of Raaja's bass usage, eagerly waiting to know more about it and would give anything to get a little peek into the man's mind on this subject.
