தாங்கள் முன்பே குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தது போல, திரை இசை பற்றி யாரிடம் பேசினாலும், இளையராஜாவா ரஹ்மானா என்ற கேள்வி வந்துவிடுகிறது. ரஹ்மானுக்கு எதிராகப் பேசுபவர்களிடம் ஒரு  பிரச்சனையைத் தொடர்ந்து காண்கிறேன். அவர்கள் ரஹ்மானின் மிகச் சிறந்த பாடல்களைக் கேட்பதே இல்லை.
 
தொலைகாட்சி அலைவரிசைகளில் காண்பிக்கப்படும் வெகு சில பாடல்களை மட்டுமே அவர்கள் கேட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். தமிழிலேயே பல பாடல்களை பெரும்பாலும் கேட்கத் தவறிவிடுகிறார்கள்.

இளையராஜாவின் இந்த 9 பாடல்களில் ஒன்றையாவது மிஸ் செய்திருப்பீர்கள்! #RareRajaSongs

 “இசை ஒரு பெருங்கடல்.. நான் செய்தது, ஒரு சிப்பியில் கொஞ்சம் அள்ளியது மட்டுமே” - இது இளையராஜா சொன்னது. இவர் சிப்பியில் அள்ளியவற்றிலேயே நாம் ரசிக்காமல் விட்டது எத்தனை எத்தனை.  
அப்படியான சில ‘Rare Raja Songs’ பற்றி அவ்வப்போது பார்க்கலாம். இதோ ஒரு, ஒன்பது பாடல்கள். இவற்றில் ஒரு பாடலையாவது ‘அட.. இப்படி ஒரு பாட்டா.. எப்படி மிஸ் பண்ணினோம்!’ என்று நினைப்பீர்கள். சில பாட்டுகள், ‘ப்ச்.. இதெல்லாம் எனக்குத் தெரியும்பா’ என்றும் நினைப்பீர்கள். 
1. வானம்பாடி கூடுதேடும்.. இந்த நேரம் என்ன பாடும்? 

‘முஸ்தபா முஸ்தபா’ ரக கல்லூரிப்பாடல். 1984ல் வெளியான தலையணை மந்திரம் என்ற படத்தில், இளையராஜா இசையில், இளையராஜாவே பாடிய பாடல். பாண்டியன் நடித்திருக்கிறார். கண்ணைமூடிக் கொண்டு கேட்க வேண்டிய பாடல். ராஜாவின் பெரும்பாலான பாடல்கள் ‘கண்ணை மூடிட்டுக் கேட்கலாம்ப்பா’ ரகம்தான். ஆனால், இங்கே எந்த அர்த்தம் என்பது வீடியோ பார்த்தால் தெரியும். அருமையான மெலடி.  ‘முகவரி வாங்கிக் கொண்டோம்.. முகங்களைத் தாண்டிச் சென்றோம்’ என்ற அருமையான வரிகள் எல்லாம் உண்டு. சரணத்தில் ராஜாவின் ரமணமாலையின் ‘சதா சதா உனை நினைந்து நினைந்து ’ பாடலை நினைவு படுத்தும் மெட்டு.  இரண்டாவது இடையிசையின் புல்லாங்குழல்.. டிபிகல் ராஜா ட்ரீட்!

 
2.   நீர்வீழ்ச்சி  தீ முட்டுதே.. தீகூட குளிர்காயுதே.. 
’என்னது.. இந்த மெட்டுல எத்தனை பாட்டுதான் இருக்கு!’ என்று உங்களில் பெரும்பாலோர் ஆச்சர்யப்படப்போவது உறுதி. ஆம்.. ‘சங்கத்தில் பாடாத கவிதை’ பாடலின் அதே  மெட்டு. அறிவுமதி வரிகள். அதெப்படி ஒரே மெட்டு ரெண்டு படத்துக்கு என்றால், மலையாள தும்பி வா’ பாடல் எல்லார் மனசையும் கொள்ளையடிக்க ‘அதே மெட்டுல போடுங்க’ என்று கேட்டிருப்பார்கள் போல. அப்படி டிராவலான மெட்டு, தெலுங்கில் போடப்படுகிறது. அந்தப்படம், 1988ல் கண்ணே கலைமானே என்ற பெயரில்  டப்பிங் ஆக, நமக்கு லக்கி ப்ரைஸாக...  அதே மெட்டில்   இன்னொரு பாட்டு.  இதுவும் எஸ்.ஜானகியின் மெஸ்மரிசக் குரல்தான். அறிவுமதியின் வரிகள் அத்தனை அழகு. இடையிசைகளில் அதே சங்கத்தில் பாடாத பாடலின் வாசனைதான். இந்தப் பாடலின் மெட்டுக்கு, எத்தனை விதமாகப் போட்டாலும் கேட்கலாம்தானே.. அந்த தைரியம்! ம்ம்ம்.. நடத்துங்க ராஜா.. நடத்துங்க!  

3. தூரத்தில் நான் கண்ட உன்முகம்
நிழல்கள் (1980) படத்தில், இது ஒரு பொன்மாலைப் பொழுது, மடைதிறந்து, பூங்கதவே பாடல்கள்தான் ஹிட். ஆனால் இது, ராஜா ரசிகர்கள் பலரின் ஃபேவரைட்.   என்ன ஒரு பாடல் இது! எஸ்.ஜானகிக்கு குரல் அப்படியே இருந்திருக்கக் கூடாதா என்று நினைக்க வைக்கும் ஆரம்பம்.  பல்லவி முடிந்து, முதல் இடையிசையில் வயலின்கள் விளையாட்டு. தொடர்ந்து கோரஸ். வீணை. இசைக்கோர்ப்பு என்பது என்னவென்று பாடமே எடுக்கலாம். சரணத்தில் ஜானகியின் ஆலாப், கண்மூடிக் கேட்டால் கண்ணீரே வரும். ‘மீரா பாடும் இந்தப் பாடலைக் கேட்டு வரவில்லை என்றால்.. என்னடா கண்ணன் நீ’ என்று கேட்கத் தோன்றும். இரண்டாம் இடையிசை கொஞ்சம் பதற்றமான ஸ்பீட் எடுத்து, மீண்டும் வயலினில் அமைதியுறும். இரண்டாம் சரணம்.. வேறு மெட்டு. எங்கெங்கோ திரிந்து, அமைதியாகி... வேற லெவல் பாட்டு பாஸ் இது!

4. வழிவிடு வழிவிடு என் தேவி வருகிறாள்
ராஜாவும், எஸ்.பி.பி-யும் சேர்ந்து பாடிய பாடல். பாட்டு பாடவா (1995) படம். இளையராஜாவின் குரல்...   ரகுமானுக்கு! ஆம், நடிகர் ரகுமான் பாஸ்.  அப்ப, எஸ்.பி.பி.குரல் யாருக்கு என்று தெரியாதவர்கள் கேட்கலாம். எஸ்.பி.பிக்குதான். அவரும், ரகுமானும் இணைந்து நடித்த படம். பாடலின் சூழலில் ராஜாவுக்கும், எஸ்.பி.பிக்கும் போட்டி இருக்கும். ஆனால், பாடலில் இருவருக்குமான நட்பு தெரியும். அப்படி ஒரு அசால்டாக, தோழமையாக, நேர்த்தியாக பாடியிருப்பார்கள் இருவரும்.  இசையைப்   பிரிக்கும், டெக்னிகல் விற்பன்னர்கள் இருந்தால்.. முதல் சரணத்தின் தபேலாவை பிரித்துக் கேளுங்கள். பித்துப் பிடிக்க வைக்கும்.  கடைசி பல்லவியின்போது, ‘வில..கிடு’ என்றொரு சங்கதி போடுவார் எஸ்.பி.பி. ப்ச்.. தெய்வமே!     

5.  நீலவேணி அம்மா நீலவேணி
 சாமி போட்ட முடிச்சு 1991. வந்த புதிதில், டீக்கடையெங்கும் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த பாடல். மலேசியா வாசுதேவன், சித்ரா பாடிய பாடல்.  ஒரே நேர்கோட்டில் செல்லும் இசைதான். பல்லவி ஒரு ஜானரும், சரணம் ஒரு ஜானருமாக இருக்கும். பல்லவி  பெப்பியாக இருக்கும். சரணத்தில் நல்ல மெலடியாக மாறும். இரண்டாம் சரணத்தில் மலேசியாவின் ஆளுமையை நிச்சயம் ரசிக்க முடியும். நல்லதொரு மெட்டு.   
 

6. மங்கை நீ மாங்கனி 

இன்னிசை மழை என்றொரு படம். 1992ல் வெளிவந்தது. ஷோபா சந்திரசேகர் இயக்கம். அந்தப் படத்தின் பாடல்தான் இது. கேசட் வாங்கி, முதல்முறை கேட்டபோது, சரணத்தின்போது கத்தியது இன்னும்  ஞாபகம் இருக்கிறது. காரணம்; எஸ்.என். சுரேந்தர் பல்லவியில் ஆரம்பிக்கும். இடையிசை முடிந்து  சரணத்திலிருந்து ராஜா குரல்! தபேலா விளையாடும் இன்னொரு பாடல்.  சரணத்தின் இரண்டிரண்டு வரிகளுக்கும் தபேலா இசை மாறும். கடைசி இரண்டு வரிகளில் மெட்டு அருவி போல விழும்.  இரண்டாவது சரணத்தில் ‘பா... மாலை சூட்டி’ சங்கதியும், ‘எங்கேயும் உன் தோற்றம்’ பாடும்போது ஒரு மயக்கமும் ஸ்பெஷலாக இருக்கும். கேட்டுப் பாருங்கள். அதே போல, ‘ தாத்ததா.. ராத்ததா... தராரா.. தராரா....’ என்று வரும்  பாடலின் எண்டிங்.. என்னமோ சொல்லுவாங்களே.. ஆங்... சான்ஸே இல்ல!   

7. தாலாட்டும் பூங்காற்று
கோபுர வாசலிலே (1991) படத்தில் ப்ரியசகி, தேவதை போலொரு பாட்டெல்லாம் கேட்டுத் தீர்த்திருப்பீர்கள். இந்தப் பாடல், ஒருபடி அதிகமாக  கொண்டாடப்படவேண்டிய பாடல்.  ராஜா ரசிகர்களின் ஃபேவரைட். முன்னரே சொன்னது போல புல்லாங்குழல் துவக்கத்திலேயே இழுக்கும். எஸ்.ஜானகியின் குரல். இடையிசையில் வயலின் விளையாடும். சரணம் ஆரம்பித்ததும் தபேலா. ஒவ்வொரு வரி முடிவிலும் புல்லாங்குழல். அங்கங்கே மாறும் தபேலா இசை. கூடவே வரும் வயலின். சரணம் முடியும்போது, தாளக்கட்டு மாறி.. நின்று தொடரும் தபேலா.   பாடலின்போது எந்த இசைக்கருவியை எங்கே நிறுத்த வேண்டுமென்பது கனகச்சிதமாய் தெரிந்தவர்தானே ராஜா. இதில் அதை ரசிக்கலாம். இரண்டாம் இடையிசை முடிந்து, சரணம் தொடங்கும் முன் தபேலா இசை.. டக்கென்று ஆரம்பிக்கும். அட்டகாசம் பண்ணியிருப்பார்.

8. மாதுளங்கனியே.. நல்ல மலர்வனக்கிளியே....  
 
இதுவும் சாமி போட்ட முடிச்சு -தான். இளையராஜா - எஸ்.ஜானகி குரல்கள். இன்னொரு ‘கண்ணை மூடிக்கொண்டு கேட்கலாம்பா’ பாடல். துள்ளலாக ஆரம்பிக்கும் இசை முடிந்ததும், ஆரம்பிக்கும் ராஜா குரல். தபேலா இசை கலக்க, முதல் இடையிசையில் புல்லாங்குழல் வசீகரிக்கும். சரணத்தின் மெட்டும், தபேலா விளையாட்டும் இன்னும் வசீகரம். எஸ்.ஜானகி, சிரிப்பு, ஆலாப் என்று புகுந்து விளையாடும் பாடல்.   

 
9. ஏஞ்சல் ஆடும் ஏஞ்சல்   
இந்த லிஸ்டின், முதல் பாடலை, பெரும்பாலானோர்  கேட்டிருக்க மாட்டீர்கள். அதே போல, பெரும்பாலானோர் கேட்காத இன்னொரு செம சர்ப்ரைஸ் சாங் கடைசியாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று இதை வைத்திருந்தேன்.  1986ல் வெளியான நானும் ஒரு தொழிலாளி படப்பாடல். முதன்முறை நான் கேட்டபோதே, ‘எப்டி இதை மிஸ் பண்ணினேன்’ என்று நினைத்த பாடல். அந்தப் புல்லாங்குழல்  ஆரம்பம், நிச்சயம் உங்களை இழுக்கும். வளையோசை, பனிவிழும், இந்தப்பாடல் என்று புல்லாங்குழல் ஆரம்பத்தில் இழுக்கும் பாடல்கள் என்று ஒரு லிஸ்டே போடலாம். பி.சுசீலா குரல். அப்படி ஒரு ஸ்லோ மெலடி.  1.12ல் துவங்கும் சாக்ஸஃபோன்  இடையிசை   உங்களை மயக்கவில்லை என்றால்.... இல்லை என்றால் என்ன.. மயக்கும். கேட்டுப்பாருங்கள். அதைத் தொடர்ந்து வரும் ஜலதரங்க பாணி  கீபோர்ட் இசையும்.. சரணத்தின் மெட்டும்.. ‘ ராஜா சார்..  ஏன் இப்படி மயக்கறீங்க’ என்று கேட்க வைக்கும்.  உடனே டவுன்லோட் பண்ணி, ஃபேவரைட் லிஸ்டில் வைக்கச் சொல்லும் பாடல். 

வெளிநாடுகளிலேயே இவர் பாடலை யாரென்று தெரியாமல் கொண்டாடிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். இத்தனை பாடல்கள் போட்டால் என்னதான் செய்வது!  முன்னரே சொன்னது போல, பெரும்பாலானவர்கள் நிச்சயம் ஒரு பாடலையாவது மிஸ் செய்திருப்பீர்கள். ஹானஸ்டாக கமெண்டில், இந்த லிஸ்டில் எந்தப் பாடலை முதன்முறை கேட்டீர்கள் என்று சொல்லுங்களேன்.. ப்ளீஸ்![/size]

As a relative youthu, definitely I can't recall some of these songs but I still can't figure out how Thorathil Naan or Thalatum Poongatru are rare songs.    Classics, more like.  Vazhi vidu was also popular.  I have heard Mangai nee Mangani, though it's probably not as popular as these other songs.

First of all I didn't see Jemo's signature in the posts. I saw ராஜன் சோமசுந்தரம், கமலக்கண்ணன் and ஜெயபாஸ்கரன் posts. Not sure if I missed his post. There are many factual errors in the above quote. It says,  "ரஹ்மானுக்கு எதிராகப் பேசுபவர்களிடம் ஒரு  பிரச்சனையைத் தொடர்ந்து காண்கிறேன்". First of all, not all who talk against Rahman's songs are always Raja fans. There can always be others too. Second, the biggest strength of Raja fans (I think I can talk to most of them having read so many posts and articles about their tastes, arguments, conversations etc from them), is their (most) objective approach towards music compared to most other fans. So this statement, "அவர்கள் ரஹ்மானின் மிகச் சிறந்த பாடல்களைக் கேட்பதே இல்லை" does not hold true most of the time (there can always be exceptions). Again, I am not talking about those Raja fans who don't even listen to more than 300-400 songs, but still claim them as Raja fans just for some pride (may be Jemo got some replies from them). Raja fans are the only ones who listen and evaluate every kind of music they listen and they don't jump to conclusions without listening. So the above statement is not valid. Again, when one does not comment, it does not mean they don't listen. It's better they don't comment

The hard core Raja fans here I know and from various other social networks surely listen to every Rahman song till the latest since he is always been equated to Raja (whether they like it or not). At-least just to give that amount of respect, they listen, even though they may not like whatever he spits out every time. So when Raja fans talk about G Ramanathan, or MSV, or KVM, or Naushad, or Salil up to latest Anirudh or Imman, they don't just talk without listening. That I can surely say is missing even with MSV fans or Rahman fans. They don't even care to listen to Raja, yet don't stop ridiculing him every time.

"மிகச் சிறந்த பாடல்களைக் கேட்பதே இல்லை". This again has its own limitations. How can a song be classified as "மிகச் சிறந்த"? Even the father of our Nation, our dearest Mahatma is being criticized even now. Even the greatest "Happy New Year" song of Sakalakalaa vallavan is being termed as "oosippOna saappadu" by some fans. Even some time earlier, we had an argument here that someone didn't even like couple of songs from Maestro's recent offerings (especially from the past decade). So how can a song be classified as "மிகச் சிறந்த"? Merely by the hit status or by the long-standing nature? I can surely say, most of today's songs (including Rahman) are classified as மிகச் சிறந்த only based on the hit status. Only very few songs belong to the category of மிகச் சிறந்த==ever-lasting ones.

So being Raja fans, Maestro has made sure that we listen to all kinds of music including him and others* to develop objective thinking (which is very difficult in art, but at-least making us listen to others is itself a huge achievement). *Others include everything right from old Hindi music to old regional music from various music directors, to even classical music to contemporary. I can surely say, none of other music director fans have anything to say about anything other their pet directors. We can see here in this forum, how we even celebrate others without thinking we should only be celebrating Raja here.

Coming to the naanE varugirEn song, it sounds good and all, but to me, it is so tiring/boring, just because the same pallavi repeats 8-9 times in the song which almost take 70-80% of the song (song duration is 6 minutes). In 6 minutes, he could have done wonders. Huge duration. Before starting pallavi, the starting thogaiyara didn't have much to offer taking another 1:30 minutes. So I was looking for charanam how it would turn up, it again came as a naive dharbari kaanada. I have listened better dharbari kaanada in film music. Nothing in terms of orchestration either. For a song to get me hooked (especially being exposed to several kind of music), it has to be accentuated. As Kamal says, full stop in a sentence (when equating to life) is a must and it gives a whole meaning to the life. Apart of full stops, there are all kinds of expressions in life; grammar, punctuation like comma, exclamation, aphostrophe, semi-colon, quotes etc which makes the whole sentence meaningful. Similarly in a music too every line has to have these kind of punctuations', but very much necessary is, it should end with a meaningful full stop. To me these kind of songs doesn't have these expressions, it goes on and on without stopping. That's where it lost the grip on me.

So to conclude, we come so expecting to Rahman every time, but every time he does not engage us, that's the sad truth. I have even posted some of the recent songs I like in other threads (Malayalam thread). When it comes to appreciation, it would be uninhibited, that's for sure, and I certainly speak of other Raja fans here and elsewhere, but it has to attract us. It is definitely not that we comment on something which we don't listen. As Trump says, that's not happening with us, not happening

V_S, I listened to the 'naanE varugirEn' song just now. It is not a composition .. just a platform for the singer to improvise on a standard raagam. Cool BGM and other modern sounds and recording. Very generic .. not necessarily a tune. Most classical songs of Rahman are like this.

MR should let go off any bad blood with IR, should go to him and look him in the eye and say "lets work together". We will surely have another anjali or agni nakshathram or whatever.  IR, like some of us, cannot verbalize his appreciations. If he thinks some director is good, he will work hard to match him or put it other way, if he gives you good music and takes some pain to write music, he appreciates your work. Dont be like that silly girl, he will not say, I love you.. Go behind him, he loves you :-)

Yes kiru. I never call any composition as composition unless it is by Maestro, and I don't call anyone as a composer unless it is Maestro. These two terms are dearest only to Maestro. When people use these terms loosely to everything and everyone, it goes out of context.

I don't think Mani had any differences with Maestro, may be since Raja refused to score for Iruvar and he thinks he is nicely settled with ARR (and VM), he won't be back and he need not be back. Yes, music lovers will miss some good music, but that's fine, we can live with it. We still have tons to listen yet from the ones he already composed (in addition to repetitive listens). Every new film from him is only a bonus.

From the list of 9 songs posted by ank, 2 songs of "Sami POtta mudichhu" are some googly thrown at me.

இசைஞானி இளையராஜாதான் படத்துக்கு இசை. ரஜினி, கமல் இருவருக்கும் அதிக படங்கள் இயக்கியுள்ளேன் என்பதைப் போல், நான் இயக்கிய 70 படங் களில் 40 படங்களுக்கு இசைஞானிதான் இசை என்பது எனக்குக் கிடைத்த பெருமைகளில் ஒன்று!

‘பாண்டியன்’ படத்துக்கான பாடல் இசைப் பணியில் இருந்த இளையராஜா அவர்களைப் பார்க்கச் சென்றேன். ஸ்டுடியோவில் எப்போதும் ரொம்ப கவனமாக பாடல் உருவாக்கும் பணியில் இருப்பவர், என்னிடம் ஒரு பாடலின் டியூனை வாசித்துக் காட்டினார். ‘‘ரொம்ப அருமையா இருக்கு ராஜா. பாடல் எழுதி ரெக்கார்டிங் போயிடலாமே’’ என்று சொன்னேன். அப்போது இளையராஜா அவர்கள், ‘‘இந்தப் பாடலை நான் அமைக்கவில்லை. என்னோட மகன் கார்த்திக் ராஜா உருவாக்கினான்’’ன்னு சொன்னார். எனக்கு சந்தோஷமாக இருந்தது. இளையராஜாவின் இசை தரத்துக்கு இணையாக அவரது மகன் கார்த்திக் ராஜா இப்படி ஒரு பாடலை உருவாக்கியிருக்கிறாரே என்று மேலும் சந்தோஷப்பட்டேன்.

இந்தப் பாடலை ரெக்கார்டிங் செய்து முடித்ததும் பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் சந்திப்புக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்து, கார்த்திக் ராஜாவை திரையுலகத்துக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தினோம். ராஜாவுக்கு ரொம்பவும் சந்தோஷம். அப்படி உருவான அந்தப் பாட்டுத்தான், ‘பாண்டியனின் ராஜ்ஜியத்தில் உய்யலாலா…’ என்ற பாடல்.

‘பாண்டியன்’ பாடல்களைப் போல படத்துக்குப் பின்னணி இசையும் மிக முக்கிய பங்களிப்பாக தேவைப்பட்டது. என்ன தேவை என்ற விஷயத்தை ராஜாவிடம் சொல்லிவிட்டால் போதும், கேட்டதைவிட 200 மடங்கு அதிக மாகவே கொடுத்துவிடுவார். ‘பாண்டியன்’ படத்தோட வெற்றிக்கு இளையராஜாவின் இசை பெரிய பலம். ராஜா மட்டுமின்றி அவர் மகன் கார்த்திக் ராஜாவும் துணை இருந்தார் என்பதை பகிர்ந்துகொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன்.
