TN CM JJ passed away

Hard day for TN as their chief minister J Jayalalitha passed away. 

She was a popular actress prior to entering politics. MGR brought her into AIADMK as propaganda secretary and after his death, there was a period of split / uncertainty etc for AIADMK - with JJ being the most-known face among public.

She took charge of the party eventually and aided by various changes in the state politics, became CM in 1991. 

Won the state elections again in 2001, 2011 and 2016 to become elected CM four times. 
(In-between, DMK led by MK won in 1996 and 2006).

Condolences to her followers. 

They have some tough time ahead with their very strong shepherd no more and she seems to have no worthy successor in the party.

A very sad news She is a single most example what woman means to the society and our lives. She died too early, but she will live in everyone hearts forever. May her soul rest in peace.

OPS had been "interim CM" for a couple of times when JJ had to step away for court cases, but was only a vassal king on those occasions.

However, now he is assuming the CM post for real - as elected leader of AIADMK MLA's:

That means, after many decades, there is a TN CM who is not from film field!
(CNA / MK / MGR / Janaki MGR / JJ - all had some connection to TFF)

The above news report says he is from agri background (besides running a tea stall). 

No longer a puppet - now TN people will have to wait and see how he administers the system.

JJ's advisor also passed away - Cho is no more.

For now, DMK seems to be somewhat clear - Stalin apparently taking over from his father in his 90's. 

However, MKS too is getting old (and gossip says he has some health issues too) with none identified as next in line.

I've read many tweets stating that BJP is eyeing on "taking over or engineering a split in AIADMK"   

Anything can happen in politics but if such a thing happens, it would be more or less equal to gifting the power away to DMK.

It would be interesting to watch what happens in AIADMK in the coming months...

Though he had been ailing for quite some time, JJ's death (and subsequent appointment of her long-time thOzhi as AIADMK head) perhaps made mukA finally deciding to "retire". 

News report says Stalin is appointed as DMK's "working" president.
