Abbayitho Ammayi - new Telugu album popular with IRFs
Thanks to Kameshratnam sir, who provided the link in twitter, here's a new audio joke box:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6BkEIJx0Io
I'm yet to listen, those who've heard please post your opinions...started off the first song that sounded like some MJ song (smooth criminal?) and then had to leave for other kadamaikaL

"kanulu kalanu piliche"- waltz sweetie is instantly catchy
(Recently, most songs that run repeat on the car seems to be waltz numbers
Of course, many of IR's waltz songs have been super hits and such collection alone can run for hours)
I'll possibly warm up to few more numbers in the album!
As one could see, this album has a "nice feel" among IRFs on twitter

The songs are great!! 6 of the nine i liked it on the first listen.
Reena Mecareemna is instantly catchy!!
Edhuru Choosthunna , the prelude orchestration is fantanstic
Tholi paruvam, i think this is first song for super singer sathyaprakash under raja..

This has been developed from a short phrase taken from a Enya song. I suspect some other numbers were also inspired by western pop singers. Probably Karthik Raja still sub-contracts for IR :-) or it is just an experimental effort. Sounds nice though.. very good strings harmony for many songs..

ki & kA - Balki
“I consider myself very lucky to have Mr Ilayaraja work on the music of the film. He has also done the main song in ‘Ki and Ka’. His level of enthusiasm and passion is tremendous,” Balki said in a statement

Abbayitho Ammayi is a beautiful and soulful album, except for Reena Mecareena and the rap portions of Okasaari O Vayyari. Five songs are stunners. May be it's the youtube version or the original recording quality, the beats and synth sounds are very sharp (treble is too high) to my ears which literally spoils the melody and distracts me all the time. Good that in kanulu kalanu piliche, I don't find it much distracting, the rhythm arrangements are more controlled. Imagining if these melodies were supported by real orchestra or somewhat balanced sounds, it would have taken this album to a stunning masterpiece. I will still wait for CD version till I comment on the songs and the overall recording quality.

Re: Abbayitho Ammayi - new Telugu album popular with IRFs
*This* is the album of the year, not Shamitabh or Rudhramadhevi - as this is the most surprising - just a pedestrian love story but he seems to have thoroughly enjoyed doing this - it's *so* fresh for the lack of a better word. Tunes themselves mark quite a departure from the regulars but the arrangements are probably the best in a while - no familiar turns or phrases anywhere and fits like a glove. Really happy!
Four songs are pocketed right away securely, with nothing to more to ask for. The violins in Kanulu seems to have fluttered and arrived straight from oh Butterfly; Karthik gets his second terrific melody this year (after Aye Sinamika); I almost skipped Saradale since I saw Rita's name, but this was the most surprising song in the album, it just kept scaling ahead and on and on. The most favorite, however, remains Edhuru Choosthunna, which seems to have the right amount of happiness and melancholy. But I think it's mostly because how the song beautifully envelops the lovely piece that we heard in the teaser - I was not expecting it there at all yet made complete sense. I was sold right at the moment the lude began. That's all I seem to need, these small mercies of imagination.
Hoping we don't get various redux of these songs all through next year. (Ahem).

Re: Abbayitho Ammayi - new Telugu album popular with IRFs
Listening now and what immediately caught my attention is the effortless flow of the melody. This evokes his work in the mid 90s or even the resurgence of the early noughties (esp Konji Pesalam, I get a Enna Solli vibe in this album). Take away the modern beats and this is more or less vintage Raja with no change in the 'magic formula'. I think he can keep churning out albums like this, no problem, but the Tamil audience has rejected that style more and more from the dawn of the century. Esp based on what I have heard of Ani bomb's music in Katthi and Vethalam, there is sadly no place for an album like this in TFM now. It would be considered 'dated' and 'rehashed'....unless it's composed by D Immam.

ipPOvE sollittEn - youtfhul hit ellAm edhirpArkAdhing. It seems to me the telugu journals have been taken over by next generation which, evne if not Raghu fans, are not exactly the venerating IR fans of previous generation.
So expect reviews like "Maestro's stale attempts at rap do not excite youth and ar eout of place in a youthful movie"

I was wondering about that too. So you don't think this album has much commercial potential in Andhra/Telangana either. Hmmm...anyway, better this way, sticking to his guns, than trying to experiment in a film that anyway bombed at the BO (Shamitabh). Let those directors who really want his music come to him and work with him knowing what they are likely to get, rather than IR having to appease the youthu sentiment.

Effortless et al is a given..
I love the way the synth sounds have been softened and made hep.
Melody wise this album is a cousin of Suryakanthi (kannada).
Why(How) is this man getting younger with the day?
If I can compare Songs to sweets, rest of the MDs are good at crafting laddus...
Different small pieces rolled into a ball. Mostly they are not cohesive and pretty boring
after a few sorties of consumption.. But Raja's songs are like Halwa or Mysore pak.
There are variations in contour, a definitive shape is there - but break into it, you see
there is an amalgamation of elements into a fused whole. Once you finish consuming it,
it feels like waking up from a dream and you want to go back to it one more time.
Songs of this album are like mysore paks and mysore paas lined up, every one song puts you into a different dream..
But they are all one.. Cant explain how they feel different..

30 mins of Rudramadevi (Tamil) is left, the movie is pretty good.
Deep story, real political drama and the songs sound even better(lush)
with the movie. BGM - fantastic..

my pick of the album thus far when was the last time Raaja used as many female backup vocals in a yooth album.
Hoping we don't get various redux of these songs all through next year. (Ahem).
hear you, this album should be kept far far away from serial offender Balki, introducing Amiths to his best work is lamest excuse ever
for recycling his songs.
On Tharai Thappattai, bumped into Sharreth sometime ago, apparently Raaja has recorded 12 songs donno how many will make the final cut, reckons
his song is his best for Raaja yet :HypeTrain:
Kamesh, oru Group Order for this album possible?

I obtained the Chithiraiyil Nila Choru CD with quite some difficulty only to find no significant improvement in recording quality as opposed to mp3 streaming. This album sounds better recorded than that but if it's Prasad Studios rather than London/Hungary, the sound is not going to be much fuller than what we heard on youtube. Shame really about how much he neglects this aspect! I am not saying he needs to do fancy production stuff but rock bands depending on Kickstarter to raise money to record do a much better job than what he does and there is no excuse for that. Even Shamitabh was mixed and mastered by some folks in Mumbai IIRC, which may be the only reason why the recording quality was good (if not quite as good as NEPV/Megha).

Listening to the ammAyi album again, in a relaxed manner on a snow-falling Saturday morning
kanulu kalanu piliche is closely related to 'enakkuppidiththa pAdal' also (besides some other famous IR waltz numbers...but this is very close IMHO).
The interludes are simply awesome!

Usha avargale - naanum apdi dhaan loop seigiraen!! Yesterday night did not sleep till 430 looping the album throughout. In some ways this is the best of the lot this year for me. I never thought I would say that after listening to Rudhramadevi and Swapnam (What a year BTW - Shamitabh, Touring talkies, Magudi and now this one!).
Also, just stumbled upon amazing Kannada numbers that are just stunning (and never heard before by me)

Almost feel we should have a Kannada films thread titled " Raja - Avaru namma mannina maga!"

Abbaayi ammaayi! anni chaala baaga unnaayi! mottai's unexpected youth album! though the teaser itself gave some good sample!
Not a single song to skip! This is Megha version 2 or even slightly more than that! Even the re-reused Macareena didnt escape looping!
Some random thoughts!
Abbayitho ammaayi theme or title track (?) 8th and 9th, is such a super that it feels like shud be extended to a full song! Mottai's kurumbu simply கொப்பளிச்சிங்!
Kanulu Kalanu - verly light reminder or 2nd version of நினைத்து நினைத்து வரைந்த ஓவியம் from Kelviyum Naane Bathilum Naane.
Maatallo CHeppaleni starts like slight similar to வருது வருது இளங்காத்து from bramma!
Tholi Paruvam 2nd lude very slightly reminds of காற்று வெளியில் உனை of USA and charanam initial portions very very slight reminder of முத்திரை எப்போதும் from uzhaippaali!
Also, Maatalle & Saradale, to an extent, it seems like their charanams can be interchanged!
ok, enuf of this reminders(actually that makes me much more excited!!) overall, its mottais youth blast album. dot! whole year looked kind of dull and this album உசுப்பேத்திவிட்டுஃபைடு for atleast 6 மாசத்துக்கு தாங்கும் level!

For some reason, in recent times, most of the songs that play on repeat mode on my car are "waltz" numbers (i.e. the rAsA type, may be "jazz waltz" or "Thamizh waltz")
Of course, I've played this kanulu kalanu song many times from Friday
