As you can see from my first post of this thread, I have ulterior motive and am pretty open about it 

Because the "crossover-songs" from NT to Kamal were from 1976, and also because it is easier to go backward in the case of Kamal, my next pick is also from a 1976 film

Kamal plays piano, dances around, advises etc in the SPB-VJ duet "சொர்க்கத்திலே முடிவானது சொந்தத்திலே நிலையானது" from the film Lalitha.

SPB sings nicely and was possibly the preferred choice as pinnaNi for Kamal around this time period (like he was for most of the younger heroes who were getting to TF).

This movie was possibly a "Sujatha-centric" movie (the title being "Lalitha"...my guess is also because she perhaps enjoyed a number of female centric movies following the success of 'avaL oru thodarkadhai'...remember, this was the year of annakkiLi as well).

MSV has a sweet melody (but very boring orch IMHO)...While I can easily vouch for MSV being the composer (even though I cannot authenticate it with vinyl cover etc), the same cannot be said for the lyricist. raaga says it is Kavingar & thus I put his name here

I remember having watched the movie in college auditorium (very boring and we kept shouting and making fun of the scenes)...don't remember much about the proceedings now

Nice song, App. Never got the airtime or popularity that KJY's 'Enathu Vaazhkkai paathayil' enjoyed, though.

One of my all time favorites since this was part of the earliest old songs that I liked in my adolescence  lots of 'nostalogy' around this and one Kannadasan cassette I had had this song listed by the man himself as one of his most favorite duets. I remember Raaja talking of how rapidly Kannadasan dictated the lyrics without a second thought when the Kannada original's lyrics took a week to be written for the tune. I think App is covering things by every actor. He is done with MGR and Sivaji films with SPB songs. Should get here soon.

That is correct - I've finished SPB's TFM of pre-IR time for MGR-films & Sivaji-films so far. (Regardless of who was on screen for SPB's voice).

The current ones are from films featuring Kamal (once again, I will cover any song from films where Kamal acted, regardless of whether he was hero or side).

As explained in the outset, the reason is the difficulty in locating a decent filmography for SPB (that too non-IR, pre-77 stuff).

This movie is available on youtube and the titles show that Kamal was an "udhavi director" in this movie. After all, R C Sakthi was his close pal and supposedly started this in 1972 as the FIRST movie to have Kamal in the lead. (Unfortunately, per wiki that cites an interview by R C Sakthi, this had to wait till 1976 to get released it seems and even a "soft-porn Malayalam remake" of this with Kamal-Jayasudha, rAsaleelA with Salilda music, got released earlier in 1975

Censor certificate says this was an "U" movie (and it has 1976 date BTW). Going by the storyline on wiki, it shows how "progressive" the 70's censors were, compared to later fellows 

If not for watching the "after-ending-of-the-song" in youtube, I couldn't have figured out the name of the lyricist (the radio announces it in that scene ) as the movie titles show four lyricists. It's not easy to find out who-wrote-which, unless Saravanan sir helps.

Even the earlier dhool / TFMDF pages that covered this song didn't mention his name

In any case, the MD is Shyam - who did a number of my fav songs in MFM (with the most special one being 'vaishAka sandhyE' of nAdOdikkAtRu ).

While this radio-regular-song is lovely to hear (that too SPB/SJ pair), the on-screen stuff is laughable (perhaps that was intended, as it was supposed to depict "child-abuse" with Kamal being the child).

It's interesting to see SPB's name shown on top (specifically, above the name of KJY) in the titles of the KB movie manmadha leelai of 1976.

OTOH, the most famous song from this movie was by KJY (manaivi amaivadhellAm iRaivan koduththa varam). Even the other famous song, a duet (hello my dear wrong number), had KJY.

SPB had a couple of songs, one being this "title number", spread over a few opening scenes that are boring IMHO (please go ahead and watch if you want to suffer "ஒட்டகம் ஏன் முட்டை போடறதில்லை" kind of kadi jokes by Kamal )

I haven't watched this movie and these opening scenes are a big turn-off and accordingly, will never watch this movie voluntarily...

The other song is a little bit more tolerable, a duet (with PS singing really sweet). In this one too, the orch is pathetic (possibly by Joseph Krishna, the udhavi guy under direction from mellisai mannar - very generic stuff).

Looks like I'm done with all 1976 TF movies of Kamal and we had 7 SPB songs (2 from the NT movie satyam, 2 from manmadha leelai, 1 each from uNarchchigaL, mOgam 30 varusham & Lalitha).

Kamal was doing many Malayalam movies in 70's and that somewhat reflects on the variety of singers & MD's he got to work with during this time period.

On this year 1976 alone, he got to work with a ton of MDs besides MSV (manmadha leelai, Lalitha, idhaya malar, moonRu mudichchu) / KVM (satyam).

G Devarajan - kumAra vijayam (kanni rAsi en rAsi, KJY)

Vijaya Bhaskar - mOgam 30 varusham (enadhu vAzhkkaippAdhaiyil, KJY & the SPB song we covered)

Shyam - uNarchigaL (we had the SPB song, don't know if there's any other number in it)

Dakshinamoorthy - oru oodhAppoo kaN simittugiRadhu (nalla manam vAzhga, KJY and ANdavan illA ulagam edhu, TMS)

Even those MSV movies didn't exclusively have SPB singing pinnaNi for Kamal.

moonRu mudichchu - no SPB  - Adi veLLi & vasantha kAla nadhigaLilE had PJ
idhaya malar - no SPB - anbE un pEr enna radhiyO (PJ) cheNdu mallippooppOl (KJY)
manmadha leelai - 3 songs by others, as we've seen.

Time to move back to 1975 Kamal movies and look for SPB songs...

OK, unearthing a rare song by PS-SPB for "kAdhal iLavarasi" and "kAdhal iLavarasan" from 1975!

That is the order and adai mozhigaL the film titles show Jayachithra and Kamal

An obscure movie called pattAm poochchi. (Well, I definitely remember the azhudhu vadiyum SJ-TMS song "eththanai malargaL thAvum pattAm poochchi" song from this movie getting broadcast every now and then on radio. TOTAL IRRITATION to me those days).

The same P. Srinivasan composed music for an unreleased movie called 'Kannedhire Thondrinaal'. The vinyl record released in 1981 had some great songs by SPB & VJ.

The lament 'Ethanai malargal' was the biggest hit from the Pattampoochi album. My personal favorite is 'Sakkarai pandhalil' by TMS & PS. TMS didn't suit Kamal at all though

In any case, it has Kamal - Jayasudha on B & W screen in a KRV / Sujatha centric movie. Song was popular on radio and I used to like it those days. When I listened to the song today, I felt it was RDB-ish (saraNam portions may be even inspired from "churA liyA hai" of YKB of 1973 which was hot everywhere, including TN)...

The movie titles list another lyricist besides kavingar (i.e. Avinashi Mani) and I don't have authentic proof (as in vinyl cover) for the claim above, that this song was by kavingar...

Another thing, a later day MSV song for vaRumaiyin niRam sippu (Kamal-KB-1980) has this 'rangA rangaiyA engE pOnAlum ragasiyam manadhukku sumai dhAnE' that has shades of similarity with this 'ninaithadhai mudippadhu' song...a case of mild inspiration by MSV, IMHO.
