Starting 1982 with the most popular super hit album of GA - vAzhvE mAyam.

Movie as well as the songs were extremely popular and got played everywhere in TN during that time period. (Not all songs were my favorites but a couple were definitely yes!)

Following are my personal favorites - mazhaikkAla mEgam onRu, dEvi sreedEvi, neelavAna Odaiyil

paNNaippuraththu pANdavargaL was another album from 1982 which had at least 2 hit songs.

I'm not sure if the movie got released in theaters - remember listening to two songs frequently on IOKS as per memory. Surprised to find video of the biggest hit song of the album on YT (possibly released later or shown on TV / DVD etc).





Though the vinyl cover that one can get from web has details of only 4 (as per picture), there were possibly 6 songs in the album - including one song sung by GA's elder brother - yes Ilayaraja

B Lenin, who is credited as director of this movie, was an acclaimed editor and did the job for many hits. He is son of the legendary director Bhimsingh (of pAsa malar) . Cannot find any link for this song

Vijayakanth was the "angry young man" of TF movies in early 80's and often his eyes were shown to be fiery (angry seeing injustices).

To the extent that they decided to make a movie with the title "sivantha kaNgaL"

GA did music for that dud and the songs were not heard anywhere AFAIK.

Interesting to see the songs in mio tamil (and the movie is on YT as well).

A small milestone - this "#GA_as_MD" thread has reached 100 songs & 25 albums!

As accurate as possible are the details (though I cannot vouch 100%) and compiled as meticulously as possible.

One thing is for sure, there is NO OTHER WEB RESOURCE at this level for GA's initial albums

I'll continue to do this exercise and let us see up to what we can do!

sattam of 1983 was another super hit album for GA (though not in the scale of vAzhvE mAyam IMO).

Another movie for K Balaji's production house (which didn't work with Ilayaraja after nallathoru kudumbam IIRC, possibly due to the issues with TMS).

Overall, a very successful "follow-up" album for GA / Kamal / K Balaji combo (after vAzhvE mAyam)!

One can say GA did a "hat trick" with K Balaji in 1983 -with another album having multiple hit songs - this one had NT in the lead role - neethipathi.

One important thing for Balaji was using TMS (which probably he could not push IR to do and hence went to his brother)

GA got opportunity to do one more Sivaji movie in the same year (with a different producer but the director is from K Balaji gang - R Krishnamurthy).

"imaigaL" is the name of the movie and it had at least 4 songs (2 written by Vaali and 2 by Pulamaipithan). Only one song was heard frequently on radio - mAdappuRavO illai manjaL nilavO and I'm quite familiar with that.

An obscure movie with the name "en priyamE" also had GA's music in the year 1983.

'sattathai thiruthungaL" of 1984 by Rama Narayanan had GA music and it's quite interesting to note that the name of this movie was different when they released the album.

The disk shows the name as "sattathai udaikkiREn" Perhaps there was censor objection and they changed the name of the movie!
