Looks like the kaNmaNi album has to be passed - though some songs had some TV time and some reach to IRFs, not well-known among general public.

Never even heard of that previous album!

Mahaanadhi is a superhit album. Option ought to be "All are hits"! One of my favorite-ever albums.

And to think, IR was not even handed a pack of peanuts for such stunning music. Of course, apart from the audience and the awards jury, the blame lies on the producers/directors too who never bothered to send such IR albums for nomination, as a result of which average and underwhelming albums were awarded generously.

While not a chart buster kind of album in itself, mahA nadhi songs supported the narrative extremely well and have stayed in the minds of TN people for long.

Except the song that did not get picturized, of course (SJ-SPB duet).

The KBR movie appears to be quite popular on YT (more than 4 mn views for a movie is quite remarkable, though it was not interesting IMO).

A phenomenal album! A GEM and one of its kind. Such a variety throughout. And of course, the delectable duet of IR-SPB, both in their elements, just like Eduthu naan vidavaa from KeLAdi KaNmaNi, but this one more of a romantic duet.

Movie had some amount of promotion, with a woman director B. R. Vijayalakshmi handling it all. So, the songs were popular and all songs (except Sunandha's version of the duet version) were often played on Radio and TV.

I think pAttuppAdavA director BR Vijayalakshmi is d/o of the famous BR Pandhulu of veerapANdiya kattbomman.

When listing the SPB hits in that mayyam IR forum thread, I've never heard of this album "rAsA magan" (goes without saying that the songs were unfamiliar).

Later those songs reached me thru some CDs from India and "anju gajam" played 100's of times on my rides. Let us add the hits of that album to this thread:

Terrific song with phenomenal rhythm / flute combo that can come only from IR's brain! Absolute stunner from a time period when some other songs had issues with rhythm IMHO Smile

I've heard this song many times on bus rides but didn't know which movie or who sang and such details - nice song with a different "feel".

TN-ers confirm this song to be a hit (also has million plus views on YT) but I wasn't very familiar with this song before.
