That the SJ version is many times better and showcases why she is a far superior singer (IMHO)

That said, the VJ version too is listenable - thanks to the wonderful melody!

VJ provides decent support to SPB who is awesome (obviously, the "parallel" song, veLLaippuRA onRu is many times better  )

^ The Telugu version of this song is many times better than the Tamil version. For one, Telugu has SJ, tone of rendition is happier and the way the language flows with the music and everything clicks. To me personally, the Telugu version is on par with Vellai Pura Ondru, with this song shading it due to interlude 2  Too effortless, especially in Telugu. A 3 tune counterpoint with cellos, violins and a solo violin.

Yeah, true. Sadly we do not have singers like them today who could do justice to Carnatic singing without compromising the film music's ethos and emotional context.
Song is a lovely classic in Vasantha raagam.
