Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Oh! Johnny is winning vidamaattOm
Ushaji, yes that's the trick. It is very difficult to select one. That's the reason we got the nominations first. Nominations (as many) are very important so that we know what we like the most and it is recorded that way even when we could not narrow down to one in the final poll.

I too wanted to vote for everything listed, but atleast this way, we can have some surprises and entertainment. Let's see if everyone wants a multiple poll option, we can even go for it.D22_Malar wrote:1 person can vote one movie only? Konjam leniency kudungga saar, kanfusion;
Atlast, anyway only Raja is winning.

I have a soft corner for chinnaththambi album
"aRaichcha sandhanam" & "pOvOmA oorkOlam" are my all-time-fav numbers while a couple other songs from that album can be considered ok as well. (Well, kuyilukkuppam >>>>> thooLiyilE, no question about that!)
Like we repeatedly discussed on forums, that movie was a kuppai (despite being a success in multiple languages). However, there was some charm in the "love between a rich girl with no exposure to outside world & a poor boy with limited IQ".
Sounds great on paper and to a small extent played decently by (real-life-lovers) Prabhu-Kushbu. It is those villain elements and other P Vasu nArAsams that made the movie totally unpalatable.
If we add "vegu jana Adharavu" as a qualification, this needs a nomination among 90's rAsA

Only 2 options, in my book. Keedhaanjali and Panneer Pushpangal. Voted for the former.

Johnny. Would choose it in my sleep. அப்படி ஒரு நெருக்கம் அந்தப் படமும் இசையும்.
That even remains as my twitter background photo since long.
Pardon the plugging of this writeup which is just a summary of each scene and it's BGM. Wrote it when we broadcast Johnny BGM in our Mafia Radio. http://mafiaradio.wordpress.com/2013/07/20/johnny-bgm/

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
MR's dubbed movie idhayaththai thirudAdhE was the youththu film of 1989 / 1990 IIRC
V_Sji has already done a fabulous write-up on the movie / score.
All the songs are my favourites, despite Mano.
KSC more than compensates for him in the duets. Per Mano standards, this was his career best IMHO, despite his "bhakthippAdal" style singing of 'kAviyam pAda vA theNraLE' & 'O priyA priyA'
Fabulous BGM score and commercial success were two other parameters that go +ve for this movie. (Unfortunately, Nagarjun is not my fav - definitely not for a "romantic" lead. The girl was OK. She was good in the Mohanlal-Priyadharshan movie "vandhanam" that came around the same time as well).

Voted for Saani. Multiple poll option would have been better...surprised no votes for Mouna raagam yet. Forum'la posh ladies members innum irundhirundhA kaNdippa MR's MR would have been in the lead. Remembered a recent conversation with one Sennai ladies, moderate IR (and ARR) fan recently. Asked her what her fav IR songs/movies were. As if on cue, "Mouna raagam, Agni natchathiram, Thalapathi, Nayagan..." Adhukku apram yOsikka ArambichitAnga

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
'maNiyE maNikkuyilE' powers up the 1992 BR-Karthik adventure nAdOdiththenRal, which kind of drew its inspiration from the Sujatha story "raththam orE niRam". The now 'Nithya-famous-Ranjitha' was the local lady love while there was a western character as well, as in the case of 'lagAn' ("காதல் பாட்டுத்தான் பாடிக்கோ பாடிக்கோ").
That way, one can even argue that it was a mukkONakkAdhal story
'sandhana mArbilE kungumam sErndhadhE' is an SJ sweetie. Well, was it love or matRadhu?
Don't remember, even though I watched the movie in theater...(well, I was newly married then )

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Three other late 80's / 90's soundtracks for Karthik movies sound very romantic to me.
However, since I don't know anything about the storyline of kizhakku vAsal , pANdi nAttu thangam & gopura vAsalilE, I cannot say if they should be nominated or not
un manasula pAttuththAn , pachcha malappoovu nee uchchi malaththEnu, kAdhal kavidhaikaL padiththidum nEram are among the best songs that any hero can get in his career but in the terrific long list that rAsA gifted Karthik with, these became part of a crowd

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Interesting to see that 'kAdhalukku mariyAdhai' is not in the list
I thought that was a biggie from 90's - regardless of whether one likes Vijay or not
It was a Fazil movie and perhaps the biggest IR hit in the 90's after others took a considerable % of TFM market away from him. And, 'ennaiththAlAtta varuvALA' - especially the rAsA version - is a sweetie! Add 'oru pattAm poochchi' & 'idhu sangeetha thirunALO', it was a decent album IMHO.
The movie's BGM was once upon a time much-talked-about subject at TFMpage - especially the climax one. I think that soundtrack needs attention

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Regardless of how lacklustre the movie turned out to be, 'sAmi kitta solli vachchu' and 'adukku malli' songs should empower Avarampoo for a spot in the list of this thread
I've neither seen the movie (horrible youtubes of the songs, movie could be boring - even though the famed Bharathan directed it based on a Malayalam hit) not know anything about the storyline. Vineeth is a so-so guy and the face of the girl didn't register in mind from the song youtubes.

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
A couple more 90's soundtracks needs attention / consideration :
Time has such wonderful songs, most of them based on "romance" as theme and I believe it had the then-top-heroine of TF world, Simran. (Is that her only movie with rAsA music?) Most people who visit forums know my dislike for PD the actor (as a dancer / dance master he was among the top, of course). However, that shouldn't automatically disqualify this movie.
Neither should the fate of the movie disqualify it, because the work of rAsA is top-class.
Perhaps the "NEPV" of that time period
The other movie is kAdhal kavidhai by Agathiyan (of kAdhal kOttai fame). That should possibly fall in the romance genre, though I have absolutely no idea. The album was good - 'alai meedhu', despite Bhava, had played frequently at home and in car thru all these years! Why not consider this movie as well - as a rep from 90's?

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Well, 90's is done
In the new millennium, there are only two TFM soundtracks that I can think of.
One is obviously nee dhAnE en pon vasantham...no need to elaborate here in this thread (after those 100's of posts in the NEPV threads in the two forums)...
The other one is kind of love story but kind of not...still, would like to nominate - azhagi by Thangarbachchan. 'oLiyilE therivadhu dEvadhaiyA' is a lovely duet. 'pAttuchcholli' is one of a kind song expressing the romantic feelings springing up in the mind of a lady in a complicated situation. Likewise, En kuththamA is a complex number travelling thru various layers of one's mind.
The movie had moving BGM and the youngster pair was awesome. Nandhita Das had done a commendable job while Parthiban was just OK in his role.
With those, I'm DONE with my listing of all the worthy romantic soundtracks of rAsA TFM...
My vote goes to 16V

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Wow! Thanks app ji for the detailed posts. You covered almost everything. I assume the ones you highlighted in bold are your additional nominations.
Aavarampoo I had listed in the missing list of my nominations too. Kaadhal Kavithai was in the list of my nominations, so it goes to the final list with your nomination. Same way Azhagi. Thanks :)Kaadhalukku mariyaathai cannot be ignored, it is definitely in the total list of 105 love theme movies, but I think no one nominated so far. I too wanted to nominate for the music, but somehow after my recent watch, it didn't go well with me, that's why left it. Again nice recollection, especially Time. I have to watch this movie. Paandi naattu thangam, Kizhakku vaasal are also good movies to add, but they are in the total list, I think. Gopura VaasalilE already in the poll.
So with this we have 29 movies short-listed.
I was surely knowing you would vote for 16 VayathinilE

Re: Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films
Oops! I missed nadOdi thendral which you also nominated. I too nominated this film, I love every song, even the film. Those days in radio, maNiyE maNIkkuyilE and puthuchEri kachchEri (singaara vElan) were alternating in #1 and #2 spots. We would be very curious to hear every week which one comes first. Especially when thalaivar starts maNiyE maNIkkuyilE and ends with a sarcastic laugh, Oh man we (our friends) used to look at each other, it had thousand meanings. Those were the days. We used to crib how one could leave Raja after getting such songs.
So we got the 30th spot fixed now, thanks to app ji!
