Best Soundtrack from Maestro's Love subject Films

When it comes to films with love subjects, no film will be complete without Maestro’s songs and score. He has created a huge impact in such films. There are tons of films with love subjects which ran only for Maestro's music even though they did not make a mark in terms of visual exuberance or storytelling. Almost all films of Maestro have love as one of the subjects even if it may not be the main subject. Examples start from annakkiLi to oru oorla and still going. Here in this thread we will only talk about the films which should ‘STRICTLY’ have only love as the main subject and discuss which film you like the most in terms of the soundtrack including the Background score. We will also have a poll to decide which film to decide is loved by most. We will first get the list out and then discuss about which one you like.

I am still deciding if we need to include films like Salangai Oli, Vaithegi Kaathirunthaal, Sindhu Bhairavi, Karagaattakkaaran as they also deal with other subjects. Please give me your inputs on this, if they too qualify, I have listed them too. There are many not-so-famous films like Nizhal Thedum NenjangaL, Anbe Odi vaa etc which I have not seen. Please share if you have seen those films which you consider should be listed. I haven’t watched many films post 94, so please add any films during this period. Also please list the films you know from other languages also (there should be lot more in Telugu and Kannada). Here is my list so far. Please also feel free to add/remove anything from the below list which is strictly not a love story.

And I will fight and campaign for Aruvadai Naal when the poll is initiated. As a love musical, it is the music that makes the film stand like a senguthu. Performances, especially of Vishwam also help. But it's the music/songs more than the writing here. Let's shortlist this to 10 films and then we'll take it up, campaign briefly for the 10 selected films and then go to polls. Will be good fun Very Happy

Ngaaahhhhh. Deciding between Johny and Aruvadai Naal now. Please God, stop here. As it is, I can't vote for 2 films. But quite sure we'll end up with 10 epic soundtracks bounce

I had Johnny, 16 vayadhinilE in my mind when creating the list, since I wasn't sure as they also had other branch stories. Even the same is applicable to Sindhu Bhairavi, Salangai Oli etc, so it's justifiable to include them.

-panneer pushpangaL (infatuation of vidalaikaL)

Obviously the albums N Nithya & AO have huge advantages over the above. But as movies, those two were outrageous kuppais...

NEPV has an unfair advantage (best orch / recording) too...

Will add as I think of more names...

In a way, "thooRal ninnu pOchchu" is a love story too.
(Though it starts with 'poNNu pArkkal' / "arranged marriage" thingy, the main theme is love v/s appan kAran adAvadi)...

I propose Enakkaga Kaathiru. I've not seen this yet, but from the songs and the clips Rajsmed has given us it could be nothing but about love. Given my longstanding crush(3 yrs) on this album, ஒளுங்கா சேத்திடுங்க, சொல்ட்டேன். Laughing

Strictly in terms of 'louu themes', aaN paavam is right up there. Songs won't find a place in his top 25, but the BGM will.

Btw, this looks overwhelming but will be a rewarding experience no doubt.

I had another idea for a series of threads to encourage active participation. We did this for a little bit at tfm/mayyam and complicateur ran a similar series in twitter. Best song in XXYY album.

I mean imagine putting up a ninaivellaam nithya or a neethaane en ponvasantham or a karakattakkaaran. The poll will just be an accessory, but the real treat will be reading posts by our resident experts on the songs they think is the best. Are you all up for it?

Among all I saw one name and immediate select. Adhu Oru KanAkAlam. One of the closest albums to my heart. Have seen the movie just once and didn't like it much. But selecting it purely for the emotional connect with it's music.

Senthil, The list you saw in my first post is not my nomination, those are just the films I saw (most of them) which has love subjects. I will be adding all films to that list.

Each one will file in their nominations of 10 or 20 films which they think as best. We will choose the best out of that and initiate the poll. So please file in your nominations Wink

How about Eera Vizhi KaaviangaL? Is that a love-based subject? If that is the case, it might trump almost everyone Wink
