geethAnjali by "Pavalar Creations" (rAsA's production house, managed by his elder bro R D Bhaskar) was a flop at BO but the songs caught the attention of listeners.

thuLLi ezhundhadhu pAttu, oru jeevan azhaiththadhu, malarE pEsu mouna mozhi - all these IR/KSC hits are so enjoyable, evergreen for years!

BTW, picture of KSC on the disk cover Smile

I've just found out that musicalaya does have the 'iLamai oonjalAdukiRadhu' vinyl cover Embarassed

Earlier I was searching in 'I' section but the movie title started as 'Elamai' it seems and it was in a different location.

Sharing the pictures from that Sridhar - Kamal - Rajini - Sripriya movie (1978-er) that had terrific rAsA songs! (orE nAL, thaNNi karuththiruchchu, ennadi meenAchchi, kiNNaththil thEn vadiththu, nee kEttAl nAn mAttEn enRA)

Another miss was 'enakkAga kAthiru' from the year 1981, that I found out yesterday to be available Smile (Please check the Gangai Amaran thread where the song O nenjamE idhu un rAgamE had been hosted yesterday, thanks to the musicAlayA website)!

The movie had Suman & Sumalatha (suma+suma)

Another "earlier-missed" : kavikkuyil of 1977! (V_Sji has recently featured the lovely 'kuyilE kavikkuyilE' song in the SJ thread).

This had been spelt as 'kOvikkuyil' in the musicalaya site and perhaps that's why I missed spotting it earlier Embarassed

Here comes the vinyl cover of 'chinnakkaNNan azhaikkiRAn'!

Interesting to note that GK Venkatesh gave voice in the 'udhayam varukinRadhu' song!

Also, singer Sujatha's TFM debut 'kAdhal Oviyam kaNdEn kanavO ninaivO' is in the disk!

Surprising that kuyilE kavikkuyilE song is missing in the vinyl covers.

Yes 1985 is a big and special year for Raja as hits belting out in various directions (genres) with huge number of films in diverse genres. noteworthy #OnlyRajaPossible!

thiruvasagam, many would gladly retire after such an year Smile

andha oru nimidam (by Major, possibly a benefit-match by Kamal, had Oorvashi for that lovely 'siRiya paRavai siRakai virikka' song which was the one bright spot in a horrible film...had two other lovely songs in the album - alaikaLil midhakkudhu & thEvai indhappAvai)

'nalla neram' uttutingae, donno what nudges Raaja to accede, diretactor mercilessly killed an ATG kannada song.

A couple of interesting vinyl covers from the year 1985.

One is aduthAththu Albert - the name itself is funny and it possibly indicates an "inter-religious-love-story". Prabhu / Oorvashi movie.

There are two more things interesting about this (besides the sweet song 'idhayamE nALum nALum').

1. rAsA did rehash of a popular Kannada song ('mysore malligE' with 'munnooru millyE'). The original actually had G K Venkatesh credited as MD. That IR chose to rehash could mean one of the two: a) The Kannada original too got composed by rAsA b) IR wanted to honor his former boss GKV

2. MV doing 'sondhangaLE' in CSJ voice (similar to the Manippurr Mamiyar number)

The next interesting one is 'Selvi', directed by Rajini's friend / manasAtchi K Natraj.

We've often ridiculed the picturization of the terrific 'iLamanadhu' song on two dogs (means the real animals). Many times the director got slammed for that in the hub.

Only today I realized that it was indeed a DEVAR FILMS movie Shocked

(All along I assumed that it should have been some other prod house because Devar films typically had their family member directing animal movies).

Now, what else could the poor director possibly do?

The producer would have demanded that his pets are shown in the most important song or something like that Laughing

rAsA did music for four Vijayakanth movies in 1985 (yearly list ubayam thiraippAdal). Not sure whether any of them became big hit movies (as in the case of vaidEhi or amman kOvil). Regardless, there had been some sweet, evergreen numbers.

nAnE rAjA nAnE mandhiri with that lovely 'mayanginEn sollaththayanginEn'! ('dhEham siRagadikkum' was sweet sounding too)

Following the grand success of Navodaya's kuttichchAththAn 3D across the country, a number of 3D projects came up in that time period. It looked like everyone wanted to make some quick bucks with that tech. However, every one of such 'get-rich-quick-schemes' failed!

IR did music for a few of them and one had Vijayakanth. Devar films 'annai bhoomi'. Movie was a terrible flop and songs didn't create much noise either ('puththakaththai mellappurattu' in the "qawwAli" genre had some air time IIRC...there're a couple other sweet-sounding numbers but the thiraippAdal audio quality is not good for this album).

There's this 'puthiya theerppu', a movie I don't remember hearing about before Embarassed

Neither the songs got registered in my mind Embarassed

It's possible the album / movie came in the later part of the year (and vanished without much impact) when we were busy with interviews / project work / end-of-campus-life-blues etc.

'needhiyin maRupakkam' is very special to me - it has one all-time-fav number (1000's of times listened, still fresh!) :

mAlaikkarukkalil sOlaikkarunguyil En pAdudhO!

(Look at the picture of the back cover - Vijay's mom & dad with rAsA)

I've just found out that there's a fifth Vijayakanth movie from the year 1985 with rAsA music and musicalaya has the cover Smile

It's eetti (they've hosted it as yeetti and it got missed earlier). This was directed by Rajasekar (of mambattiyAn / kAkki chattai / thamibikku endha ooru / padikkAdhavan)...

Two nice SJ solos - kAttukkuLLE karugamaNi & oru nAL oru pozhudhu ; both were my favourites those days!

recently procured Aduthaththu Albert oriental cd(courtesy Skr) was completely blown by its fidelity, especially the exhilarating start to 'Aey Indra' song, as GP would say there is lot happening in those 10 secs and also the hook @ 'adi aatha paartha', all for a dire song situation, only he possible

Let me finish off the remaining vinyl covers available at musicalaya for the year 1985...

kungumachchimizh by R Sundarrajan. Great songs but below-average movie. Recently hosted 'poongARRE theeNdAthEy' by SJ in the Gangai Amaran thread. 'nilavu thoongum nEram' with that harmonica sound is evergreen...'goodsu vaNdiyilE' and 'vachchALAm neththippottu' were quite popular at the time of arrival.

Mohan / Ilavarasi / Revathy

There was this 'en selvamE' featuring Ambika. I don't think any of the songs were popular those days...may be a few broadcasts and that's about it.

One interesting thing about this is having the singer Radhika listed for one song Smile

piLLai nilA was a Manobala movie- rAjA magaL by JC (and SJ) was quite popular. This was perhaps the first commerical success for the director who had a few other ventures earlier that didn't click. (This one too was not a biggy but just profitable I think)...

'mAn kaNdEn mAn kaNdEn' by KJY was quite popular from the NT movie rAjarishi (I think it means Viswamithra)...the vinyl cover also shows Prabhu.

It seems GA produced a movie and Rama Narayanan was the director & IR the MD Shocked What a combination!

Perhaps one of the very few movies that Rama Narayanan did with rAsA and the songs are only in very distant memory to me...

Movie's name is Urimai.

There's this movie 'hellO yAr pEsuradhu' that credits IR-GA as the joint MD's Shocked

I thought the only movie they got credited together was sankarlal (with IR only doing 'iLangiLiyE' song)...this is the second one with such combo. I'm sure I've never heard about this before and all the songs are new to me Shocked (None of them sound like pure-IR stuff, I must admit).

One more funny thing - movie directed by RAMARAJAN (yes, Mr pasu nEsan)!

Let me end the year with a movie that had two lovely SJ duets.

Directed by Sridhar (and I had the misfortune of watching this so-called "thriller" in either Ramba or Oorvashi theater in Trichy)...

'oru nALil' and 'en anbE anbE' are the duet sweeties in this "unnaiththEdi varuvEn" !

Starting the year 1986...let's have one NT movie, thAykku oru thAlAttu by Balachandra Menon.

The movie that had 'pazhaya pAdal pOla pudhiya pAdal illai' remix of 'unnai onRu kEtpEn', sung by TMS-PS Smile

KJY sung the 'ArArirO pAdiyadhArO' song that was very popular those days. VM wrote all the songs as per the disk. (It seems IR recorded a few lines with Vali for the title song or something like that and made the VM name come below the senior in the titles on-screen, because of their fresh ladAi, as posted in one of the hub threads)...
