Old HFM of course had  a lot of memorable 7/8, many of which Iam sure would have inspired IR.

Got reminded of this song courtesy a recent Manam tribute to IR by Vivek, where he humorously mentioned failing an audition to sing for IR and he mentioned singing this song in the audition.

uruvangal maaralam music is by s.v.ramanan.. he was also the director producer of that movie along with abaswaram ramji who is his brother and raghu.

they are the legend k.subramaniam's sons and padma subramaniam is their sister.

this is to rectify the errors in the post containing the song vaanil vaazhum devathai... a really nice number.. i was about to post this song and ponne bhoomiyadi and wanted to confirm that they are not already there.. kudos both are there..

For record's sake documenting that "O swarna mukhi" which is heavily inspired / saraNam almost ditto copied from meeNdum meeNdum vA (and thus happened to be misra chApu)

Has this been captured? if not, this is  BIG miss. IMO, easily the best 7/8 melody in TFM in the last decade. When I heard this song it left me a little sad because once upon a  time IR used to compose something like this pretty frequently. That IR has been missing for a while. But anyway, let me not digress too much..

Ramesh Vinayagam has got to be this generation's V.Kumar I guess. A lot more films/plaudits should have come his way, but did'nt. Maybe he was overqualified for today's TFM I guess considering his all-around knowledge and maturity(in compositions). His singing is also quite decent if not good, as seen in this song. I guess the scale is Bageshree, and the 7/8 is so subtle and not in-your-face that I didnt notice it around the first time.
If you compose like this you will quickly be out of a job in today's TFM.

The picturization has Ramanujam romancing with his wife in between his math breakthroughs i guess :-) Trust our tamil directors to insert love duets in any films

Happened to watch this movie a couple of weeks back on youtube and the moment this song started I counted tha-ki-ta-tha-ka-dhi-mi.

I guess ARR did a lullaby in misram ever earlier (if we flip a page, we could fine one or two I think).

Unfortunately, the least impressive of the misra chApu numbers in this thread so far - melody and orch that a novice can easily come up with! The pAdal varigaL are likewise unimaginative, to put it politely!

Visited a friend who was watching a new Malayalam movie (Srinivasan's son was the lead actor I was told, forgot the name of the movie) and a jail superintendent on screen was singing an old Malayalam song.

That song had the same melody and my mind was instantly singing this old classic which I used to listen on radio years back. What obviously followed was my counting the beats தகிட-தகதிமி (இதய வானின்)...தகிட-தகதிமி (உதய நிலவே)

So, here you go - the first Veda number in this thread I think. (Not sure if it was an original or borrowed from other language ; from that Malayalam movie, I know for a fact that a Malayalam equivalent exists - though I cannot recall the first line).

Happened to listen to this song while riding in my sister's vehicle.

As soon as I recognized the 7-beat cycle, asked the question "which movie" and got the answer. She was thinking that ARR did this song and I told her it wasn't ARR but "some other MD".

Today googled and found it to be Vidyasagar. Sung by Shankar Mahadevan (in his unique style - unfortunately me not a big fan).
